Really great. One of the best covers of this I have seen. Yet... no one swings like Ed. The intro is impossible to replicate. I have never seen or heard any guitar player perfdct the intro. But thats okay. I think at first you were focusing on feeling it but, its when you let go and got comfortable you fell right into pocket. Great job.

This is absolutely the most difficult Van Halen song to nail.
Great effort. No one but Ed can keep the swing locked at full speed on that song.

I think it's the hardest swing riff, period. I cannot consistently lock it down. I wouldn't put it on my set list for just that reason.

@@martinsmith4123 Living in LA County got to see VH with Roth 5 times, and 3 with Sam. The first one was Anaheim Stadium Sept 78 just after the first album release. Sammy opened up, the VH with Roth, then Sabbath with Ozzy; Boston headlined.
All the bands were in competition with each other lol so it was beyond epic. Watching Edward do Eruption up close that year was beyond belief especially when your 15 yrs and just starting on the drums. Actually became a big Sammy fan that day he really rivaled them all.
Thee other shows were at the LA Forum and the US festival. [Sorry long winded] had to share. Peace

The swing was a bit off at the start but it sounds like you got it going at 0:39 and forward. The tone is god-tier. The solos and fills were on point. Well done!

@@martinsmith4123 It was hard to give you that little criticism because I can tell you really put a ton of time into that cover. If you listen to the beginning super slow you will see what I meant. Honestly I think the start of this song is one of Eddie's most difficult passages to nail.

One tip that will help on the quick little 8-7-5 bluesy pull-offs in A and the 6-5-3 pull offs in G leading out of the first solo…Edward did not use his Pinky for those, he used the Ring, Middle and Index. Same goes for the similar climbing riffs after the a capella vocal breakdown.
It may seem a little awkward at first, but he used that stronger Ring finger A LOT on those “blue-note” riffs throughout the catalog using that left hand fingering…it is a super key thing to get used to because it is all over the entire catalog…like in nearly every lead break!
And often overlooked is it’s 0-8-7-5. Trust Ed to add an almost silent but even harder dimension.
@@martinsmith4123 Almost! There are a few of what I call “lead-in” notes that happen “between” the main phrases in the “I’m the One” intro…I’ve notated them here. People often get lost on the timing of the intro as a whole and blame it on Eddie and Alex’s “supernatural swing”, but really it is impossible to keep the timing right if you miss all of these “in-between” notes that come between the more in time “phrases proper” if you will….imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/6419/ZZVJF6.jpg

Very good! Long time Ed fan and am particularly fond of the "pre-Matt Bruck" days. Matt obviously made an impression as he now co-runs the EVH brand with Wolf but damn, IMHO he changed Ed's sound for the worse and made it much more pedestrian. I can still hear in my mind's ear my reaction to the article when I read where [paraphrasing] "he thought Ed's tone was way too clean" and wanted to change that. Matt, the dirty but still clean (articulate) thing is what made his sound so great FFS! 😆Rudy never f'd with Ed's tone..

That was great and every video of yours I watch, I find your Fender all the more intriguing. Can you please share some info on along with and major mods you’ve done along the way? A friend of mine whom has since passed away(R.I.P) had a Strat from the early 80s with a single humbucker and his had a lockdown system straight from the factory. I’m trying to find out what specific model that was from Fender. Thanks and good job
