Those 1/4 turn valves are so much nicer than the old ones where you have to turn it like 8 times to turn off the water. Great Job on the repair👍

I agree! Quarter turn valves are so much nicer, a lot smoother to operate! 👍🏽😊

I put plumbers grease around the compression ring and also the threads, keeps it from binding. Teflon pipe dope which you used works well too.

A better compression ring puller is the one from English Tool Company. Much smaller and way easier. Also before going that far in replacing the whole valve, you can replace the guts of those full turn style valves for cheaper without a compression ring puller.

Thank you so much for all of your hard work. We live in an apartment and it's not always easy to be calling up maintenance because it's such a big apartment complex they're constantly busy and in reality I want to done right the first time nothing Against maintenance workers And I'm not putting them down in anyway unfortunately for the most part they have to put a band-aid Uber a gash every time they fix something to make it last so i'd much rather just do it myself and without your videos I wouldn't be able to do anything so thank you so much for all of your videos and all of the time it takes you to do this God bless you

Careful about the liability thing. Assuming this is a rental, if you DIY and there’s an issue with damages caused by that, you could be in big wampum trouble financially. IMO not worth it.

Get rid of the multi turn valves, which have a packing nut that comes loose. Replace them with 1/4 turn valves.

That is all good, but anywhere that he used pipe dope or teflon tape, DON"T do that.
Compression fittings are to be used without any dope or teflon, as it will interfere with the forming of the compression surface.
The supply lines are sealed with a rubber washer and need no other sealant aid, and would be possibly compromised by use of any.

Yes that’s the way it should be done….but it’s not always that simple.
Case in point: I was alerted to a huge leak in my upstairs main bathroom. I opened the sink vanity cabinet door and water was spraying everywhere.
Immediately looked for the cutoff valve but there was no cut off valve on any part of the incoming plumbing!
The water was spraying from the incoming pipe which was rigged with a clamp attaching it to the faucet plumbing.
The clamp had loosened over time from the water pressure I guess and it started to leak…then spray…then gush.
I got a pan and a thick towel to catch the water (which had, btw, already leaked down behind the wall to my kitchen cabinets below and long story short…had obviously started as a small leak turning into a gushing leak suddenly due to the mold and damage I ended up finding behind my kitchen cabinet walls.
I went outside and cut off the main valve incoming to the house.
I did a temporary fix sealing the two pipes incoming at the sink and then was able to leave and go to Lowe’s and buy the cutoff valves that should have been on there to begin with.
    The plumber? An ex-husband.
Cost me a lot of $$$….I’m still dealing with the aftereffects of that plumbing issue. Replacing things that were damaged by the leak one item at a time.

Have you tried just replacing the valve leaving the nut and compression ring from the old valve on?

Why add Teflon to the outlet threads it's absolutely completely unnecessary. You said yourself it's a half inch compression inlet and a 3/8 compression outlet..... COMPRESSION the supply line has a gasket in it no need. I am thankful you didn't put any on the inlet threads at least.

That’s always been my understanding. If it has a rubber gasket to seal them just snug it & let the rubber do it’s job.I don’t think the Teflon would hurt it but it’s not really necessary.I did use Teflon when I first started DIY many years ago before TH-cam & had no experience or anyone to tell me any different.

Non trades people should never touch plumbing or electrical. In Australia you would not only be slugged with a fine if someone is injured or worse you will lose everything. It's been done just ask the DIYers sitting in jail here. I'm sure US law is stricter.
