    Hello Anthony! I've recently gotten into memory training and have read both "the memory book" by Harry Lorayne and Jerry Lucas, and "memory craft" by Lynne Kelly. The former was really useful as an introduction to using striking images, substituting words, the link method, the peg system and the major system, and I have found success implementing said techniques for list based information. The latter was my first in depth exploration of the memory palace through the written word, among other techniques (visual alphabet, bestiary, etc). I tried to use the memory palace for learning countries, capitals and flags (I thought the memory palace the best method as it would allow me to layer on additional information at a later date), and due to the sheer number of countries I decided that I'd need an equivalently large area of space so I chose to use a route near to my house that I frequently walk. The problem I'm having isn't necessarily due to the large number of things to memorize, but rather the lack of novel and memorable objects along the route, it is primarily trees and plants. I've tried to combat this problem by using houses to mark every fifth country but along my walk through my mind I keep misremembering where I placed my images. Do you have any advice for a memory training beginner with this problem? Apologies for the large wall of text.

      Advice one:
      Never apologize for writing at length. From whence did the disease of short content come? Does anyone know?
      Two:
      Layering is possible, but in my experience is best used selectively.
      Three:
      Keep studying and practicing. The sources you mention are great, but also missing many elements that the serious student of memory requires. 👍

    • @boglandmoss
      @boglandmoss 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AnthonyMetivierMMM What would you recommend as an alternative to layering information, we can use the example of a country, capital, flag and currency. Currently I am trying to create an image that binds together the country, capital and flag, and I will later try to add the currency and other information. Is there a better way of doing this? Thank you for the reply.

    • @AnthonyMetivierMMM
      @AnthonyMetivierMMM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would suggest not "creating" images at all. This is where the hard work beings.
      Using Magnetic Imagery makes everything so much easier for many of us.
      "Layering" can be involved, but it's often not necessary. Sometimes "compounding" will be needed, however.
      In any case, I'll think about what you're working on and see about adding a tutorial on it to the MMM Masterclass.

    One of the reasons I love your videos because you make it fun, as you said memory palace technique is to make hard things fun not frustrating, which is i like it that way.

      There are all kinds of ways to manipulate dopamine, but I’m not sure about the reset part. I’ve been told that my book, The Victorious Mind is like a manual for maintaining tonic dopamine levels, however.

      @@AnthonyMetivierMMM
      Hey Anthony
      Yeah, I used a shortcut there 😅.
      I meant dopamine receptors reset.
      Basically, it is thought that the brain's dopamine receptors of us millennials and generation Z are heavily overloaded with dopamine rushes and are therefore desensitized.
      That's why most youngsters are feeling less motivated and tend to be "lazy" and not willing to sacrifice and endure for the sake of their goals etc.
      So basically what I was looking for in my previous comment is actually any pointers and recommendations you might have to regain the dopamine sensitivity.
      I just bought your book recently and I am at page 27, about to start the part II: Become the storm.
      And it looks like you gave me more incentives to go through the book faster.
      Btw, is there any chance I can get access to the "How to Stop Thinking" mini course that complements the book?

    • @AnthonyMetivierMMM
      @AnthonyMetivierMMM  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing this context. That's very helpful. I'll think about creating a video for this topic.
      In the meantime, there's a brain warm up video coming out later this week that you might find useful.
      And for now, some things to try are:
      1. Only long form content. Long videos, not short ones. Long books during reading sessions, even if you use interleaving. Go for density.
      2. Daily meditation. You can try all the different kinds I talk about in TVM and see if you can build up to the longer form I discuss.
      3. Keep adding focus and concentration activities to your daily activity stack. Involve some movement, like tai chi or qigong, etc.
      Hope these pointers help out and stay tuned for more on this channel coming soon. In the meantime, thanks for reading TVM and just send me an email and I can probably get you setup with that mini-course.
      But really, that's just the short form content I'm suggesting now you avoid. Finish the book first, spend at least 90-days putting at least some of its ideas into action, and you might just find you have already stopped unwanted thoughts.
      Does this response help you out?

      Ultimately, I can't answer medical questions like this. I would suggest experimenting only in consultation with a medical professional you trust.
      But what I can say is that memory techniques usually help no matter what condition a person is in.
      If you've read The Victorious Mind, they have helped me through situations where I was (unfortunately) destroying my own health.
      Would the techniques have worked better if I were in better health?
      Perhaps.
      But it can't be known and it is ultimately not the role I am playing here. Memory techniques work period and if one learns to apply them, they will experience benefits. Health topics and supplementation are part of the mix, to be sure, but as I talk about in The Victorious Mind when going through my own health scenarios, to be considered very carefully and with help from professionals.
