I've been depressed and going through a difficult time in my life with the loss of my gramps. And this beautiful nostalgic masterpiece you've created brings me back to my 10th birthday when he bought me my Pokemon Crystal Version. I was so exited, happy and worry free. I remember him sitting on his recliner reading while I'd play Crystal on my GBC non stop. This song just takes me back and soothes my soul and broken heart. Such warm memories... :')
This is still by far the best version uploaded onto YT. Every other cover either omits the highest register part or uses two pianos. Wish he was still uploading videos, he was my inspiration to start learning piano :(
Pokemon stays with you forever. The memories, the moments, the gameplay, the friendship, you always remember. This piece fits every precious second perfectly. :')
Omgggg. Makes me think of the year I got pokemon Crystal for Christmas. I was 8 years old and I remember I had forgotten to put it on my list. Then to my surprise I open the box and see that its Pokemon Crystal!. I was so happy.
Man I remember bugging my mum for the Gold version ages, then she went to hopsital and had my little brother and I thought I'd never get it then! But then I came home one day and she'd left it for me on the kitchen table. I was so happy I just sat there for 5 minutes staring at the box with pure excitement!
Michael Potter you should check out a TH-camr by the name of "8bit music theory" there's a video of a live transcription and analysis of this song and many more similar to it.
I dont care what anyone says about video game music, there's a lot more soul and talent in the compositions of these songs than ANY music out there, just about. This is a POKEMON song and it's got a lot of very complex patterns. I think people are just foolish to think that video game music is lame to listen to.
thats because they are actual compositions by people who have a music education. as far as complex patterns, no. it has a simple bach-like chord progression and a melody in the development. the melody never strays outside of the definite key, unless you mean complex rhythmically for the player, then yes.
Javascript Kiddie They are simplistic because when they were making them, the game boy had very limited sound. Like 4 different tones I think. So to make what they did within their constraints is unbelievable.
music to listen to while staring out into the sunset... I only say this because I've done it. Absolutely beautiful piano rendition of an already emotional song (even in 8bit, this felt so melancholy to me)
this song reminds me of a chill summer day you are relaxing on a hill with flowers and a tree for shade you can see the clear blue sky the breeze is so nice in your hair and the sun is so warm
That helped me fall asleep last night. Great song, really. Those who don't see the greatness because "its from Pokemon" dont know what art is all about.
Ecruteak and Cianwood have the same theme, just in HG/SS they're remixed differently. Ecruteak's theme has Japanese instruments called Kotos in the beginning, while Cianwood's is just a lone guitar. Both awesome pieces of music for an even more amazing game.
This is such a good arrangement and such a good piano and such good playing. The mistakes sounded so beautiful ugh. Bless us with sheet music oh mighty piano god. ;_;
i was playing call of duty, and i thought, man, i haven't head Pokemon music in a while... I'm 23 and i listened to this beautiful music, and started crying a bit. i shut of my CoD, and dug through my gaming box to find my best friend when i was 13. my Gameboy color. :)
Thank you so much, this is really a MASTER PIECE. Your cover is perfect, you're a genius, I admire your talent. I love this song with my heart, thank you!

@Italiano825 I remember losing my cherished pink GameBoy Advanced and being so upset about it. At the time, my older half-sister worked at Toys 'R Us and I got a discount. She said all she needed was $40 and she could buy me the system and the game. So I got $40 in nothing but quarters and gave it to her. I got a pearl blue Gameboy Advance SP (which I later put a Lugia sticker on) and Pokemon Sapphire. Some of the best days of my life were playing Crystal and chasing Suicune around. ~Raxel~
@MrCactuar13 I remember most everything of pokémon up until pokémon 251...I remember the exact effect moves made, I know the power of attacks by heart, I know which pokémon evolves into which one and at what level/which stone is needed... I remember sitting at home with my best friend, and we both playing Gold and Silver (he had gold, I had silver) on our gameboy colours and we were both at the same bit, both trying to defeat Morty. This song just takes me right back to the days when pokemon was so simple. I do like the new generations, but nothing beats the old ones right?
i am 16 and am a junior in highschool.... ironically i got my first Gameboy SP at the age of ten and with it pokemon fire Red and i aboslutly fell in love with the game. i started to collect the cards and watch the show. and then i randomly found a magic Silver version and was introduced to the johto region. a whole new world to live in. Oh wow, I remember it was Christmas eve about 8 years ago. And I was with my mom in EB games. And I saw pokemon crystal... I was like "Fuck!" Because I forgot to put it on my list but on X-mas morning my aunt passer me a small square box... and there it was. I swear I left the living room and popped it in my gba and didn't stop playing... I miss my lvl. 75 meganium!
thats cuz the song is meant for the piano, but when they put on the gameboy soundtrack as a midi file, and all the notes sounded electronic, the beauty didnt really carry through. This is beautifully played though, and it brings back so many memories.

The best game, ever!!
Damn!! He plays two melodies and the bass all at once! I wish I had that rhythm. I can barely play one melody and bass with simple songs
That's not really hard, there are many songs with a 2 layer violin key
The most difficult thing (for me) while playing two melodies with one hand is playing one louder than the other :O
it's insane, i wish he made more vids, even if it were other songs
This makes me appreciate the genius behind the composers of pokemon music even more than before!
yess
I want to be able to create music this beautiful. I will keep practicing until I can...
Good luck, my friend! I'm working hard, too!

Sitting at home, playing Pokemon music even HALF as good as this on the piano all day is my idea of paradise!

I used to watch this video a lot back in my middle school days. Damn. I'm 30 now.
