I saw a bird who was very unhappy in the communal budgie cage at Petsmart. She didn't like all the other birds in the enclosure, and, by the appearance of her cere, it was obvious she had been there a while. I bought her, intending to make her life more fulfilling. She met my three other budgies - and still wants nothing to do with them. But she likes me and she's now free to fly about my bedroom - so I'm GLAD that I was able to provide her an environment that gives her freedom!

Thats what i did, the budgie was sitting and not interacting with any of the other birds and it looked so sad so i got it.
never get birds from petsmart, got 2 from them and the both died within a couple days
We got two parakeets from pets mart and they’re doing great have had them just a couple weeks now. We thought we was purchasing two females as that’s what they had them marked turns out after watching alot of videos one is male and one is female. They’re still very young and wasn’t sure about one another in the begging now they sleep cuddled up and get along good. I haven’t tried to hold them yet however changing food bowls and water they did both jump on my arm today and wanted to come out. Talking to them at the cage daily in a soft sweet voice and placing a hand on the cage to let them know I don’t want to do them no harm has gotten them to come to me. Going to continue to take it slow and one day with be able to hold them and teach them 🥰 the whole family loves Miko and Mia 💙💖

When we choose budgies to be my pet... I noticed the sick green budgie ....He cant stand and he always breath nervously .....at first i didnt choose him but when my first budgie flew away 4 months ago,,,, we came back at the pet store again,,and i saw the sick green budgie again i think that he is sad because anyone dont choose him,,,,so i decided to choose him.... When i tame him he is kinda nervous,,, and he cant walk if he tries to walk he looks like he swim..

Edit : It really depends on you . Most of these disable budgies don’t live long as they cant fly or their legs are bended . They don’t get enough exercise and become fat . They dont trust humans and are not playful. My 1 year old kiwi died 3 days ago .

I had worked at a Petsmart for nearly a year and no, Petsmart's Budgies (Parakeets) are not humanely bread or well raised. They are overproduced and some suffer from birth defects occasionally. This goes for the rest of the animals at pet stores as well. It's more expensive but I always recommend people adopt or buy animals from breeders where they tend to be more ethical.
YOU ARE THE BEST PERSON ON THIS PLANET!!! Always stand up for what you know is right!! Me and my friend walked into a PetSmart, and we literally had to leave because I was crying so hard. Seeing all of those animals in tiny, over crowed, ill watered and fed cages broke my heart. I don't regret rescuing my parakeets for a second :)
The petsmart by me is luckily much better about that stuff :)
The Petsmart by me has this HUGE cage that's like 7 feet tall and 4 feet wide. There's maybe only 6-15 birds in there max. And they always like to say hello to EVERYONE. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable too. I think the Petsmart near me is much better in caring for their animals. Not crowded, and the employees can be seen talking to them lol.
Thank god the Petsmart I live by actually cares for it's animals ;-;

@@teruderu-tan the more the merrier. I actually have 8 budgies now and 2 cockatiels. You just have to be very careful with their diet and stuff otherwise it’s absolutely fun :)

When i was younger i had a male brown budgie, home bred. Called him corky. What a talker he was, wow. His vocabulary was incredible. He was such a chatterbox that when we had visitors we had to put him in another room. Loved that bird.

So when i got my first budgies, i found a healthy blue one and a young green/yellow one. but the green yellow one had his wings cut off by the bottom part. I felt bad for that poor budgie but i got him anyway because even if they are "ugly", buy them no matter what for them to enjoy life.

Choose your budgie not because of health but because of your inner voice and personal connection. If you have a good feeling with a scared budgie, then take it. You will be happy, giving him/her your love and comfort.
My birds are a weird case.
Flora(Female):The moody one.
Kiwi(male): The crazy one. He actually had dirty feathers on his head and looked sad, but after I bought him he became crazy and beautiful.
Ace(male): The new one. He is 4 months old and he sings like a demon.
They’re all different, Kiwi is a regular parakeet, Flora is an arlequín, and Ace is English.
And yes I named ace after an anime character.

I used to have a parakeet that was friendly right when I got to hold her when I first met her. I named her Daisy because of her yellow appearance and she loved cuddles, splashing around in the water, and was a very active bird. I thought I'd never had a close friend than that bird. Sadly, at about five years of age, she passed away. About a week before that, I noticed a significant decrease in chirping and Daisy almost always stayed at the bottom of her cage. I tried to get her to a vet, but since I was going to New York the next day, I could not really do anything, but hope for the best. When I came back from my trip, my parents who looked after some of my pets informed me of her passing. It was horrible but I got through it and I have to say that that was the best pet that I ever had and will have. (This is way too proper of a paragraph, but I felt like writing something to get the stress off of my finals coming up in a couple weeks)

I don't know why yellow coloured birds are the best...I've had blue and greens and they were absolutely the worst, even though they were hand raised. Then my friend got a yellow aviary budgie and it was so friendly it could have been hand raised. She also has 2 grey cockatiels that are bitey and mean, but her brother has the nicest yellow cockatiel. Weird hey

My budgie pistachio passed away last year and he lived a grand total of 17 years and 9 months , he was adopted about 3 months before I was born by our grandparents and when they moved they gave him to us to look after and it turned permanent ❤️

A few months ago, one of my budgies passed away, so I went to my town's (only) pet shop to buy a new friend to Ícaro
There was a budgie in a different cage from the others, but she looked very healthy and active
I asked the owner why was that budgie alone, and he told me that she was born with malformed feet, and nobody had chosen her because of that (she had been on sale for more than one year)
I felt bad for her, so I chose her
She's been with me for 4 months already and she's SUCH A LOVELY LEMON PIE
Sometimes she slips or fall because of her feet, but it hasn't stopped her from nothing, she's super playful and a great flyer

All budgies are a good choice :) Treating your budgie well over it's lifetime is more important in determining how your budgie's behaviour will turn out, rather than how it appears to be acting in the cage during your short time you observe it at the pet store.
My first budgie (mall pet store, likely getting their budgies from a mill) was effectively a random one: I pointed at the one I wanted, but when the employee opened the cage to catch it, they all immediately began frantically flying around in a cloud -- so I ended up getting the first one that got tired (baby bird couldn't fly anymore). So that random budgie ended up being one of the best pets I could have hoped for: loving, sweet, and full of personality.
It's true that trying to get a budgie with good health is important... however I'd say that more for first time owners who want to minimize complications. (It's sad that sick ones will have a harder time finding a home, but hopefully someone is willing to care for them). Take note however, there are many pet stores which take budgies in from places that breed them rapidly to sell them. What this leads to is the owner not breeding ones that have healthy traits in the long term (since they cannot track and select for long term health), and these budgies are at risk of developing a chronic illness down the line (as my poor little guy eventually succumbed to after having a happy and healthy 7-8 years).
I was passing by when I saw a disabled budgie, he was in a small cage with other budgies and they had no toys and only one bowl of water and food.
I ended up buying the disabled budgie and now he's happier than ever! He's a little grumpy with his sisters and shy with other humans, I'm so glad he's safe now

One of my budgies has breathing trouble from the day We brought him home. We considered returning it at first but than I realised what If it were my baby? And we decided to keep it. And it's doing fine. Yes the trouble persists, as its nostrils are not really normal ( one is smaller than the other) but it's happy with its friends and hopefully living it's best life. I hope it lives his full life.

Pick a human that is healthy. If a human is healthy, he/she should look Happy. Make sure the hooman likes you. To check this, check if the hooman is looking at you and showing its teeth, which is called smiling, and hoomans do it when they like something. Also make sure the hooman wants to touch you. If not, it seems the hooman is not interested in you, and won't take care of you. 😂
Once I went out of my comfort zone and got a budgie that was different than one I grew up with. When I got her she was grumpy and distant from the other birds but eventually she became very welcoming and now she is one of the loveliest birds ever. (I think she hated all the other birds in the store)
I got two budgies but my first budgie have been passed away last Monday morning due to disease tried get to vet but too late and other budgie was fine but lonely and depressed should I get other budgie but I worry about second budgie might catch disease

I always choose the lonely ugly budgie in the corner because i am like that too. Once they cheer up they have the most amazing insane personalities! I love the crazy budgie because they got such mental strength and spark! And i never had an healthy bird you need lots of money to support it. They are the best once they know they are safs but sadly dont live very long and when they die it can leave you traumatised because rarely other people support you when you lost a friend that is an animal. But the pain is worth it, life is suffering and these bundless of joy bring a little light

my first ever budgie was a strong but sick one, lasted for a week then we got a new one, of course the 2 (1 is the new) passed too,
now all left with me is my little warrior who never gets sick, and if the feathers are fluffed up
she shows no symptoms and has all the strength to progress through her long healthy life, i love him but being me,
i cannot provide a long life, hes my longest living budgie and hes what made me happy during my down times ❤️
of course he did get sick at some point, twice, but she lived fortunately, and wasnt having troubles ❤️
I recently got a budgie, it just flew into our kitchen and decided to live there XD, and my friend was going to get one and she asked me where to get one, and I said "God" and she was very confused XD
I usually pick my budgie by interacting with all of the birds, singing, talking and playing with them and I see which ones seems to interact back and be interested or friendly with me, If I click with a budgie then I get them
I would take the sick birds not the healthy ones because nobody wants them and it's sad because what if you were really sick and nobody gave you any attention , that would feel like crap

Why waste your time, effort and money on something that's going to die in about a week?
That's very sweet of you but also make sure the bird doesn't have a contagious illness otherwise it could make the other birds sick and they'd all die (or else keep them in separate cages and take a lot of hygiene precautions to prevent the spread of illness).
IM A DISTRACTION :D With enough love and dietary care, a sick animal can bounce back. A potential friend is worth the effort. Even if it fails, at least they gave it a shot.
(Give rehabilitation a try. Preferably on a rescue pet. It's a good empathy booster.~ ♥)
Last year for my birthday my mum took me to get a budgie and we already had the cage and everything ready so we went a picked one out. I instantly fell in love with this one little one sitting at the bottom of the cage alone. All the other budgies were playing together but she was sitting by herself in the bottom of the cage. She was terrified of everything but we brought her home and just over a year later she loves me and I can't get her off my shoulder some mornings.
I got my budgie when we was I'm guessing 1 month old and I've had him for about a year
I adopted ( bought) a pair of love birds where female was plucking her feathers and male had some eye infection. Took care of them ..now she is not plucking anymore and some eye drops helped cure eye infection ... I’m happy 😊

I got three parakeets as a christmas present a few years ago, and they are great! One of them is very mean, but I would never trade her out for a better tempered one... ever!! They are such good friends to me, and I don't regret not being able to pick them out.
If you want a good bird buy a male because male are much more friendly!
Chick Royal my female budgie was amazing devoted to me even protective of me I have a new male budgie who dident seem interested in me I think it depends on the bird rather than the sex I've always had budgies some great some not.

I was given a male and female budgie from a breeder who showed the birds. It took two years. Then they finally decided to have babies. I had a bird nesting box. It was so cool to see the eggs. And we raised two batches of babies.

I have 12 birds with me. Its healthy but look wise ur birds are very very healthy. Really your videos has inspired me to take care of bird much more better. I keep on thinking to have large space setup for birds.I wanted all of them to be happy forever. Your cage set up is really nice and the space setup also. I got an idea for my birds setup.with the setup of ur birds farm, I could make out your love towards birds. I wish you to live a long and healthy life.god bless you

Get nest warm lamp and make sure they don't over heat. Also get nutrition cuddle bone.

Oh my God, wait. This is an amazing coincidence. I have a budgie named Rocky and he is a male. I was planning on buying a female for him and call her Roxy so their names would be matching. And now that I read your comment you have a female like that. So funny, maybe our budgies are destined to be together xD
