    A perfect example of why it's important to follow photographers like Steve - examples of where to shoot (ie. backlit or not, look for fog, environmental conditions etc..), settings and the BIG one - patience! You HAVE to let the wildlife do their thing and wait for it, but be ready for things to happen. Be looking, listening and observing all the time. Great video Steve.

    Great low shutter pan on the pelican. As a postscript, you’re making my sixty-something knees and ankles bark with pain watching you squat by your rig. Stop it!

    Fred Taylor--- Steve from an amateur photographer, do you have any idea how envious we all are of you. One as I am living in the East have been lucky enough to visit the Tetons a handful of time and only able to stay a few days, hoping to get on good shot of either landscape or wildlife. Whereas yourself you go out any time and weather any part of the year and we hate you, haha. I watch the roads you go on, and as an out of state plate looked at as a tourist by the locals, I'm sure, I have found hard to adventure out. You have the perfect photographer life and I hope you know that. Thanks for your videos, good luck to you in all your endeavors.

    Yes, beautiful backlit shots really love it. My Z9+800PF just can not track bird eye no matter what focus area selected when I shoot under backlit. I can not figure out if it is my Z9 or the 800PF giving me this issue. I wander if you experienced the same with your 400 f2.8 TC.

    • @SteveMattheis
      @SteveMattheis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Z9 AF used the viewfinder video feed (I'm pretty sure) to determine what to focus on. So if the image in your viewfinder is too dark to see the eye, then the camera won't see it either. Try increasing your exposure and see what happens.

      Yup...but off the beaten paths can be great. Just have to watch out for the grizzlies in those Tetons. Here in Ontario, Canada, a pile of folks go to Algonquin Park which is world renowned because there are well beaten trails and crossings, but folks just need to find the same topography and hang tight to see the same amazing scenery and animals. We just have to do as your name says - wander and things will appear :). Good luck to all!

    I've seen you go out to Idaho and California, but you should head north to Glacier National Park or south to Rocky Mountain National Park at some point. Not that you don't have world class scenery in the Tetons (you're so lucky to live there), but both of those places could use a photographic eye like yours... the elk rut in Rocky Mountain National Park is next month.
