I've been taking wc classes and practicing on my own for over 2 years (off and on) and STILL struggle with it. This video, I found so helpful. I think it's very important to learn the foundations of putting down wc onto paper and you do that excellently here, so thank you. So important to practice the basics over and over again and over and over again.

Stumbled upon this video. So very helpful, especially the tips about waiting till there is sheen on the wet area. I tend to wet the paper too much and immediately apply the paint which makes it difficult to manage the flow of paint. I thought wet on wet was the essence of watercolor painting but now it’s more clear to me that other techniques are important to supplement and complement a wet on wet base. Maybe that’s why I end up with muddiness. Thank you so much!

Hi. The brush I use in the video is no longer available. However i would recommend buying the best your can afford. Windsor and Newton Series 7 are a top quality brand. Or search for Billy Showell's brushes. Otherwise look for good sable brushes that come to a good point.

I generally use 140lb Arches HP paper which I will stretch on a drawing board to deal with the buckling issue. I think in the video I had some sheets of heavier weight paper (Fabiano Artistico HP 300lb) but don't use this paper any more as they changed their 'recipe' and I don't like the newer surface. Arches also do a heavier paper but I don't like this either!
