    Thank you for this! My father wants me to do martial arts and taekwondo and I'm just getting started. I've never attended any courses yet but I plan to soon. Just trying to learn the basics and make myself more flexible before joining an actual course. This video had helped me perfect my stance and my kicks are soo much better!

    Thank you so much for sharing this video! I just started Taekwondo 3 months ago and have my second belt now! ...but now I'm trying to take a look at perfecting everything I've learned at home. This really helps me to be able to do that!

    I LOVE that you’re also talking about the biomechanics of the stances, too. ❤️
    As a fitness fanatic and a lover of martial arts, wish that martial art instructors would also focus on the joints and how to create more stability and reduce the chances of injuries.
    Fir example, many “old school”
    instructors insist that the knees be bent inwards, but it makes more sense to them the knee-toe alignment from the fitness training POV. 😁

    It's interesting to see the small differences between this style and standard Kukkiwon taekwondo. It looks like 95% of the techniques are the same, but small things - like the Ap Seogi being wider; Ap Gubi being wider, shorter, and with a different rear foot angle & weight distribution; Hakdari Seogi having a different base foot position; a slightly different rear-arm chamber for the Sonnal Makgi; the transition between Juchum Seogi being more exaggerated; and your foot position on Front Kick - are noticeably different.
    As a side note, like your advice on the knee angle and knee stability. Also, your Korean pronunciation is great!
    Also, respectfully, you may have made a mistake when measuring your Ap-Gubi's forward length. When you counted the two-and-a-half foot-lengths, you didn't clear your foot all the way forward for the second foot-length, so it made the stance have a gap of one-and-a-half feet. I could be wrong, though - that might be the way it’s intended to be counted.

    Nice inspiring tutorials Shawn, scientifically speaking why should we have same height when moving forward or backward in Ap Kubi Seogi or Apkubi into Dwitkubi back stance? Thanks

    • @taekwondoshawn
      @taekwondoshawn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! By staying the same height it forces your power forward toward the target instead of up and down.
      ITF uses the up and down movement to generate power (you can Google the Taekwondo sine wave)
      By staying the same height you can really engage the flutes as you finish transitioning from stances to stance!

    yup yup I mentioned before but his Korean accent is totally perfect. Some of those TKD Korean terminologies are not very easy to pronounce for a non native speaker

    What is the use of stances

  • @mohiniahuja3923
    @mohiniahuja3923 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another point I noted is that the animated tutorial from Taekwondopark channel (th-cam.com/video/5X1FkIfpGog/w-d-xo.html) says that in Ap Kubi Seogi move forward four and a half times the length of your foot. This is contradictory to your instructions of forward movement of three and a half times the length of ones foot. I am confused now what to follow. Please clarify!

      Many different styles will have different exact measurements. I go with the Kukkiwon which has slightly higher stances so all ages (including older practitioners) can train.
      This is like the karate from Okinawa is different from the karate from Japan in the same regard.
      If you’re competing, bigger and flashier is better!

    • @taekwondoshawn
      @taekwondoshawn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is true! In poomsae there are no walking back in Ap Seogi-we can use a back ap seogi to help introduce reverse front stance (like in Taegeuk Yuk Jang!)
      Good catch👍🏻
