Every now and then you'll hear people talk about how Blade "Saved Marvel" or was the catalyst to the modern Superhero Comic movie. Those people don't know what they're talking about. First of all, because of how the deal was structured Marvel made less money from Blade than they did from one ISSUE of the Uncanny X-Men comic that year. The Blade comic that debuted the month following the film pretty much flopped on arrival, not even selling 20,000 copies on its first issue (this is considered cancellation level for one of the Big Two publishers even today, much less at the peak of the comics boon in the 90s). Secondly, Blade was never marketed as a comic book movie at the time of its release. All of the trailers focused on the vampire aspects. And while Stan Lee is mentioned on the poster, Marvel is notably NOT. So they were pretty clearly distancing themselves from the project and the comic genre. At the time, VERY few people (even among comic book fans!) had any idea Blade was even a comic book character. Even many comic book fans didn't know who he was (Blade was rather obscure in the 90s). Third, X-Men was already well into production, so Blade had little influence on its direction. Unlike Blade, X-Men also was much less ambivalent about its connection to the comics. While it was something of a reaction to the over-the-topness of the Joel Schumacher Batman films with its darker aesthetic, it was more in the way that the Burton Batman was stepping away from the Adam West one, rather than disavowing them altogether. Another factor was that Blade was Rated R. It would have been viewed by studios separately from the genre (much like how difficult it was to get an R-rated Deadpool or Wolverine movie going, despite the fact that comic book movies were by then firmly established). Blade could have tanked, but studios would not have considered that significant to the prospects of a PG-13 film like X-Men.
its pretty upsetting that some really awesome scenes where skipped like one of them was at the beginning of the movie in the club where Blade pins himself againsed the back wall, smiles then throws his boomerang blade in a cercle in that white room killing all the vamps in just 1-2 seconds. it was glorious. really upset it was skipped :(
This is like Crow but like way to the extreme. If you want to see what is the original Vampire movie, watch Lost Boys. Everything comes from that movie. Blade could have tanked, but studios would not have considered that significant to the prospects of a PG-13 film like X-Men.
Yes girl, you are gonna dig this vampire. He is cool as it gets yo...
Oh Dasha, she's just the best. And my goodness, Hugo is so big now. 💔
its pretty upsetting that some really awesome scenes where skipped like one of them was at the beginning of the movie in the club where Blade pins himself againsed the back wall, smiles then throws his boomerang blade in a cercle in that white room killing all the vamps in just 1-2 seconds. it was glorious. really upset it was skipped :(
The darker Marvel character is Spawn (1997).
This movie was my childhood haha
The vampire scenes scared the shit out of me when I 1st saw this
Some other good Wesley Snipes movies are US Marshal and Money Train
This is like Crow but like way to the extreme. If you want to see what is the original Vampire movie, watch Lost Boys. Everything comes from that movie. This movie here was during the Fast and Furious era when the hero had a hot muscle car. Besides the Blade series, Underworld is another movie you need to watch now.
Hi Dasha, glad to see you enjoyed this film. For more vampire/action films as well as Blade 2, I hope you will consider the Underworld franchise of 5 films, for future reactions.
The BEST swordsman in Marvel! The Daywalker is everything Batman wishes to be lol
Dasha of the Russia, you have to watch the Underworld movies.
