    My own opinion
    -Partner with some large businesses a.k.a investors (like promise them to advertise their products onboard the plane)
    -Start on a hub that is industrialized, worthy airport and clean
    -Start buying regional jets first
    -Make a domestic route first before expanding to the international market
    -Comfort of the passengers should be the priority alongside with safety
    -Nice and excellent food
    -Hire or train the experienced flight attendants, pilot, ground crews, check-in staffs etc. (MAKE THEM HUMBLE TO THE PASSENGERS)
    -Start to plan or buy some 320's or a 737's
    -If possible do not lease some of the aircrafts, buy your OWN
    -Maintenance should be well
    -Make some codeshare agreements and partners
    -On-time schedule flights
    -Clean cabins are always observed
    -Start advertising your airline
    -Watch it bloom, and make sure that your aircraft are always up to date and not junk
    -If you have large profits you can install some IFE's, you can install it on first to business class then economy, if you are budgeting.
    I FORGOT:
    -Partner with some local and international hotels, ship companies, bus companies and etc. (local and international), this is to make passengers more easy to transfer to their desired destination after they ride a plane (promise them to advertise them so you can have a discount ;) )
    -Lounge should be planned (and good as well)

      Sounds good but I think the most important aspect of aviation these days is the price of a ticket.. That’s why Ryanair & Southwest etc are so big. I expect that you cannot compete with those guys.

    • @alexp3752
      @alexp3752 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Investors are particularly loathed to investing in commercial airlines. Why? High initial cost of acquiring aircraft, gates, routes, facilities, and people. Just starting out an effective maintenance department is amazingly complex given the cost of a single piece of avionics can easily top $ 250,000. There are plenty of black boxes that must be kept in stock plus countless LRU (Line Replaceable Units), Tires, Wheels, Brakes, and let's not forget spare engines! A single jet engine can run from $3 million to $ 6 million or more.
      Banks become frightened when wealthy customers want to start their own airline. Want proof, ask Sir Richard Branson.

    As an airline industry veteran, I actually helped start a new airline in Asia beginning in 1995. My primary job as EVP was to acquire aircraft, supervise airframe production, arrange delivery, train crews, and help organize the overall company. After five years and spending over a quarter of a billion dollars, the once wealthy Asian chairman finally called it quits!
    I was recommended to the chairman who was a novice in the aviation industry by top officials at Douglas Aircraft, now Boeing. Following 2 airline bankruptcies, I am convinced that the airline industry is a great business but you have to have exceptional routes, fantastic, talented people, whom you can trust, and one big potful of money to make your dream alive, survive and most importantly thrive. With the Asian line, the chairman wanted to grow the company too fast, and that was his ultimate downfall. Sadly, he is now an "unbillionaire".
    Judging from airline industry history, very few privately-owned legacy carriers have survived in the long term. These include American Airlines, Delta, and United. Nationally-owned airlines survive much better as they can always count on state subsidies.

    I have that app called Airline Manager 2, and I find it pretty fun and cool as it is a pretty realistic airline managing game. My fleet now consists of 75 planes with the A350, A380, 787, 777 etc. I think the best move I made was just purchasing A LOT of 737's and A321's when I started out. You will earn a lot of money fast

    • @DjsAviation
      @DjsAviation  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Certainly a good choice but I am not specifically making an airline as we go rather analysing every single aspect needed :) Of course, you could certainly turn the series into a game and pick a region you want to start the airline in based off this episode and then pick various aircraft to begin your operations when I get to that point :)

    I have created my own airline that would be one of the largest in America and certainly the largest in NA. It has an extensive list of destinations, several Airbus, Boeing, Embraer, and Bombardier planes, a well thought out seat design(there are 6 total classes, but obviously they aren’t all featured on each aircraft) and several hubs and focus cities in America as well as three international hubs. The airline also owns part of Virgin Atlantic, completely owns Condor, and owns part of FlyDubai, which is why it has hubs at Munich, Dubai, and Gatwick. Those hubs allow it to go to even more destinations throughout the world. It’s main hubs in America are Denver, Orlando, Richmond, and LAX. It also has smaller hubs and focus cities.

    Awsome new series.
    My Airline would operate with A321LR and would operate from DUS to replace the Air Berlin North american routes.
    I would equip the aircraft with 16 business seats like OmanA330, and JAL787 with a full service, then about 160 eco seats.
    The eco would be a lowcost long haul, whit IFE and free wifi, but that would be it all other services cost extra.
    I would try to get in someking of codeshare and partnership with Jet blue, they also operate A320 and would be a good partner in america.

      Southwest Airlines in the US has an ideal formula that works. They fly high-density routes with great city pairs, a common aircraft type, fast turnaround, high frequencies, combined with a great internet reservation system that is the heart of the enterprise.
      easyJet in Europe follows the same formula and they are a great company offering reasonable fairs with high-quality aircraft, crews, and maintenance.
      The key to both successes was the early adoption of the Internet for their reservations systems. Bravo to Herb Kelleher and Stylios!
      Best long-haul private carriers include Virgin Atlantic pioneered by Sir Richard Branson. He had his formula right from the start!

    One important market you missed was India. There is a huge potential in the market and it is set to grow with the govt announcing the UDAN Scheme - Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (The Common Man of the Country Flies). It aims to start operations in hundreds of unserved and underserved airports of the country. The 1 hour flight will have some seats as low as Rs. 2500 (USD 38)

  • @acegarcia3719
    @acegarcia3719 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    What I would start is a long hual low cost carrier with a point to point model. It would serve smaller cities with smaller planes that meet them demmands. The planes I would use would be the 787 to do the efficiently and small size and the 321neoLR for even smaller cities and still have the range for transtlantic.

    • @alexp3752
      @alexp3752 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In general, an initial 787 fleet would require at least 3 aircraft to serve a single city pair at the beginning, making such a debut enormously risky and costly. The best method is to acquire good, refurbished aircraft or preferably using a "wet lease" to learn the business a bit at a time. Follow the Branson Formula. Sir Richard using his own money, did it right the first time.

    Nice video! I am looking forwards to the rest of this series! I also have a question that is a bit different than what you usually cover. Asyou may know, in the not too distant future spaceX's BFR rocket will be released. Other then mars missons, the BFR is said to get from anywhere inthe world to anywhere else in the world in under 1 hour. So how do you think airlines will compete with this? Will airlines be using rockets soon?

    This was a great video, really expanding your brand from reporter to idea maker...thank you DJ! I think there was a small error early in the video, when you talk about single aisle aircraft and the success of the A320/321neo with a warning to Boeing. You say that Boeing could miss the boat if they do not approve their "787" program. I think you meant to say 797 program. Moreso, most reports about the 797 are that it will be a two aisle aircraft rather than single aisle. Obviously, no one knows for certain, but it seems the 797, as a MM plane, will need 2 aisles to deplane the expected 220-260 seat capacity.
    Beyond that, I really love the information given and the dreaming it will make happen. :) I have an idea for a long haul airline connecting the Southern hemisphere...Oceania, South America and Africa. with feeders to US, China and Western Europe. From what I understand, Africa will experience a boom in development in the second half of the 21st century to rival Asia, and as global resources diminish, South America will become more of an economic powerhouse as well, so I guess I am looking a bit past the data dates you offered, but I am a long term thinker. :)
    But to start a more realistic airline, I would create a new regional airline in Hawaii using the new breed of regional jets from Bombardier or Embraer. There is only one airline doing inter-island service (Hawaiian) and their 717's are dated, becoming less economical to use, their route structure is not flexible (still hub and spoke, which is ridiculous) and over 40% of travelers on our inter-island service are local, and that percentage is bound to increase. Furthermore, there will be a huge uptick in direct flights from US mainland to the outer islands, lowering the need of inter-island hub service and international flights are climbing, but Hawaiian's inter-island terminal is quite inconvenient for international flights. While Hawaiian does affiliate with a large number of airlines, it is not part of a major affiliation such as One World, so there is a huge opportunity to build a relationship with a major international affiliation. To build quick local loyalty, I would resurrect the name "Aloha Airlines," which though underfunded, was a beloved regional airline in the recent past.

      Sorry, the 717 is the ideal aircraft for Hawaii. I should know as I helped deliver the first aircraft of its type to Europe years ago. It truly is a Douglas airplane and is among the best they ever built.

      It is a great plane, but every plane has a lifetime. And now the new planes offer a better cabin environment. Besides, this was about a new airline and there are no new 717's to buy.

      Not a really good idea. Pilots are notoriously poor top level airline managers outside of flight operations.

    Very inspiring videos. Thanks DJ. My vision is to help the low SES markets to experience very affordable airlines. If possible cheapest then current LCC airlines. Therefore, I have a question, is it possible to operates the old aircraft for example like DC-3 or similar? Are there many available parts for that kind of plane? My target of passengers are people who only rely on trains. They could not afford even for the LCC ticket price.

    Would love to have an airline company based in Indonesia since I'm from there. Not many carriers based in Indonesia serves long-haul intl flight so the flight can be too long sometime with too many layover. Maybe one day I could found an airline company, this sounds like a pipe dream but eh anything to cheer me up lol
