Leasing companies account for about 40% of the aircraft worldwide. As airlines need cash, it'll go up to somewhere in the 50-55% range. TUI and Air Canada just deal lease- buybacks deals with lessors for their 737 max's. TUI got $45 million an aircraft & Air Canada got $40 million
If a wide bodied airliner is being sold with everything minus its two engines, what is the least costly way of getting two engines installed and ready for service?
Appreciate you putting together this video. I just wanted to add considering there are Cessna Carvans or Q400s or Embrear 135s used for scheduled flights I would consider using the aircraft wake turbulence categories to classify the above aircraft e.g. light (B1900), medium (737), heavy (777), super (A380). But nonetheless thanks again for putting it together.
There are some pretty confusing numbers in this, for example you say the A350-900 can be bought for $104.5M-$154M, whereas the A350-1000 goes for more than double, $366M?
Its how much they are worth on the open market. The A350-1000 is so rare that it can't be bought apart from by Airbus. The A350-900 there are plenty more on the market and thus there is a 2nd hand lease market emerging. Its also complicated due to the fact that list prices for aircraft ($366 you mention) are only that - list prices. Airlines typically pay around 50%, so an A350-1000s real value is $170 million. $20 million more than the A350-900 :)
@@FoundAndExplained ah right so it's a second hand price where available, new where not. Yeah that's pretty much the reason Airbus stopped publishing list prices a year or two ago, no one really paid it. With leased aircraft, are you only counting the sale and leaseback aircraft you mentioned? Because lessors are often some of the biggest customers of new planes straight from the manufacturer, they'll order 10s or 100s of planes because they predict leasing demand.
What about buying a A380 for 66m now and store it? Then resell it in 3-4 years? If not resell, you could still sell and lease back for instance to operate from London to new york
Well you would think the New York to London route would be good, but there is a problem. Take for example Hi Fly who leased their A380 to Norwegian. They couldn't fly to New York because there was no gates! as in the airport was full of A380s (that need a special gate) and the plane couldn't land. So it was delayed six hours!
It comes down to the old file of supply & demand. They are only cheaper because the demand for flights has fallen off a cliff. Which is why aircraft manufacturers will need to cut down on making new planes in o order go limit the over supply pool.
