7 Days on a Controversial Cruise Line - Mind Blowing!

- I’ve just disembarked a cruise on one of the biggest and most exciting cruise ships in the entire world where I braved a 11-storey slide and went to a secret bar that doesn’t exist on the deck plan. The cruise was onboard MSC’s newest cruise ship the MSC World Europa and MSC definitely are a controversial cruise line. Plenty of people love them, and lots hate them with a passion.

Normally when I book an MSC cruise it’s because I’ve found a bargain and paid half the price of the mainstream American or British cruise lines, this time though I just really wanted to try this ship so paid far more than I ever have for an MSC cruise in the past and I hoped I’d get more in return. The ship certainly looked impressive from the promotional videos.
If the bad reviews were to be believed I’d be spending the week hungry, overwhelmed, uncomfortable and generally miserable but I knew the only way to really find out was to get on board for myself.
We boarded the ship in Barcelona in Spain and as soon as we walked up to the World Europa I knew that this would be an interesting cruise, realising that every little square like this was a balcony that would have between 2 and 4 people in if blew my mind a little bit.

What is their environmental impact? Do they really dump sewage and garbage into the ocean?
@@meaghanorlinski8464 Cruise ships? Their environmental impact is bad, of course. If you’re interested in that side of things though check out a cruise ship like those owned by Havila which are battery powered. It’s incredible tech! Also some cruise lines have been fined for dumping things in the past, they have lots of rules to follow. Hope this helps! 😀
hi im wondering if u have been on msc virtuosa? if you have do you know what its like?. Thank you
A grain is an imperial weight measurement of 65mg where as a pinch is 1/16 of a teaspoon or 1/2 a dash which weigh 355mg. One possible origin of the term is an ancient recipe that refers to a grain of salt.
@10:54 mark you compared the back of the ship to "270 on Symphony". 270 are on Quantum class ships for Royal. Symphony is an Oasis class ship. Aquatheater is on the back of those.
The whole "Give you what you ask for with no additional banter" is right up my alley! As an introvert I would humbly request that they not book the other 8999 passengers though hahaha
If you offer to pay 9000 fares, they might be open to make an arrangement.
yes, that kind of service on a much smaller ship would suit me nicely! from the videos about different cruise lines it seems like the smaller the ship, the more personal and talkative the service is. what a pity!
“Looking up at whales”… usually that means something has gone terribly wrong lol 😂
It was the word ‘usually’ that got me. So this wasn’t the only time it wasn’t. Now I need to know.
Great Line!
There is no one who does a better, more objective and engaging cruise review than Emma - the best!
You're very kind, Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
I love how she pronounces that yellow bendy fruit as bananas and not as the Americans say "bananas" 😅
@@suave-rider I like how Americans say it I can hear it in my head haha 😂
@@EmmaCruises I just thought I'd type both accents because when read they look the same 😘
That constant upsell is wild, I get once or twice a cruise but multiple times a day! I NEED to try that slide
Oh yeah it was intense, wouldn't happen to you though cos you'd have the package I'm sure! Ha ha. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼

@@TopG-ue5mp Definitely agree with this!
I randomly saw Emma’s video on the YT homepage about a week ago and have watched over 30 since! As others have commented, your video style is so great. Providing a lot of info in a concise manner with excellent video that is edited perfectly with what you’re saying. And most importantly, you come across as a friendly, genuine, and caring person.
I can’t swim and my wife and I have no attention to ever cruise but watching you, I’ve learned so much about cruising that if we ever ago, we’ll have your videos to thank. Cheers!
I love that so much, you're very kind and it's much appreciated!! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
My two favorite TH-camrs are both British, and both named Emma. The other being Emma Taylor of “Love To Learn Drums”.
I really appreciate that they always have some food available in the buffet. The last cruise I went on was with my diabetic dad, it makes it really easy to just grab a banana or something if his blood sugar got too low and walking the length of the ship helps keep it from spiking. It's a good way to travel if that's a concern for you!
Yes!! Such a good point. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Did my first MSC Euribia cruise in january and did'nt expect much after all the bad reviews! I am so happy, that i wanted to try them out myself and can't wait to go back!
I so far experienced 7 different cruiselines and MSC is leading the ranking place number one together with my all time favorite one!
Did this cruise last September. Was very very busy then. Buffet very noisy. Crew were great, couldn't fault them. Didn't get an invite to the secret bar😢. You found parts of the ship we didn't see😂 . Rarely got asked about speciality dining, must be my Paddington hard stare! Didn't consider cruising until I found your channel, this was my third cruise in two years.
Ha ha!! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
always here for the ship content 🙌🏽🙌🏿🙌🏻🙌🏾🙌🏼

Ha ha, you'll need to ask Seabourn for that! @@mfitzburger5137
Hey Emma your open mindedness on MSC is a big part of why we booked our first cruise with them on Divina, a transatlantic, this coming April. We increasingly find the usual American style cruise lines to be a little staid and what others consider to be good service we think of as being over the top nonsense. Polite and respectful transactional interaction with the ship's crew is all we need. Also, give us a mix of nationalities rather than a ship full of boring retirees like me and we will always be happier and better entertained.
how was your experience on Msc divina?
@@karlelias we don't sail until next Sunday (21st) but feeling pretty positive about it.
@@markeaston7353 ohh okay, be sure to leave me a comment on your sailing afterwards pls :)
wish you a nice sailing!
@@karlelias very happy to do so when we get home late May. If I don't reply by 1 June please prompt me as I might forget by then.
@@markeaston7353 alright, thank you! have a nice time in Europe :)
I liked the bit about the secret bar. I kind of understand about charging for drinks there if its such a small and likely popular spot. If they were giving drinks for free nobody would leave.
We were on the same cruise as you on the World Europa. Our like your experience was pretty spot on. We found the pizza was great! In fact the meals at the buffet and main dining room was really good. However being harassed every time I entered the buffet if i wanted specialty dining. Also as someone who is disabled I found that most of the passengers were rude pushing past me while trying to get off the elevator. I will cruise with MSC again because the ship was nice crew were great and the destinations are desirable. I will however avoid cruises with large amounts of passengers as to limit my experience with rude passengers. Thanks for the video review Emma! Too bad we were unable to meet each other. Maybe next time!! Cheers!
In the US, pinch of salt is often associated with cooking, so grain of salt was probably used to help differentiate, plus a grain of salt is, well, nothing really.
I saw the MSC World Europa while I was on holiday in Malta. I was having a nosebleed in one of the parcs that faced the Valetta harbor just when it set sail. Seeing that massive ship turn around in such a small harbor was incredibly impressive. I took a couple of videos with my phone of it. Im very happy I managed to capture that moment. Truely cities on the water.
I've cruised with MSC and Royal Caribbean and I agree, the over friendly approach of Royal is quite tiring. I enjoyed my food in MSC more because of less interruption from the crew. If you need them, they're there.
Yeah! Suits me. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Totally agree. We like P&O for the same reason. We had great service on Iona, particularly in the MDR. It wasn’t false, like Royal, just polite and efficient.
Emma. Fantastic REALISTIC review. Appreciated.
I absolutely love everything about your cruise blog. I've been on well over 25 + cruises on several different cruise lines and still find myself learning a lot from people that do this for a living like yourself. Happy Cruising, I'll be on the MSC Meraviglia in 4 days.
I love a new cruise video to watch for lunch! The food on this cruise looks great
Woohooo! It was yummy. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Thanks Emma, I love the details, good and not so good that you include in this, and all, your videos. Keep up the great work.
Enjoyed this comprehensive an informative look at this MSC ship! Has many lovely spaces and what seems to be great shows!
Hey Emma. Didn’t realize the Europa started sailing. We were on the Seascape this past Thanksgiving week. MSC has beautiful ships. Great photo package. We say grain of salt in NY. 1 speciality meal al you can eat is awesome. Good restaurant choice. Oh wow. A private speakeasy. Invited to pay even with the drink package 🤔. Thanks for sharing.
I love MSC...its fun to roam around n explore. look forward to a sail on this one! we live in florida
Woohoo! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Thanks for the excellent video, as always! We've been avoiding MSC. But after seeing this, we need to give them a try!
I also love to look at menus ahead of time! It feels comforting to know things like that
Hi Emma love the Video, just wanted to mention for anyone that watches that Travels on MSC from USA that they are closed loop cruises so there is only one Embarkation/Debarkation Day so very much like any other cruise line here in the States
Yess. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
We recently did one with multiple embarkation/disembarkation days out of the US with MSC, but I think that's because it was technically repositioning. It's definitely not the norm.
@@cbpd89 yes I have seen that on the repositioning cruises that they do sometimes
Hello Emma! ❤ Another great video! FYI, you're looking amazing... Your skin actually glows 😊. My husband and I have watched all of your videos (some several times) and we enjoy them ALL
Great video Emma, thanks for making it! 🎉
Aw nice video again Emma and Thanks again for all your work you do❤
I haven’t cruised with MSC yet, ship does look gorgeous. That show looked impressive 👏
It was bonkers I don't know how anybody can practise to do those flips?! Ha ha. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
It’s amazing, the best show at sea we’ve seen with RCCL diving show next best.
Find for your self. 😊. Just got off the Meraviglia, and had a great time. Thanks for the open mind. Yes we do MSC, for the value.

So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
@@EmmaCruises enjoyed the ship so much in Oct, we did it again last week. I'm liking the Brooklyn cruise port, close to home, nice ship and several itineraries. Oh, and the value of a Msc cruise is hard to match.
The cruise ships are getting more huge but looks very impressive. I have been on an MSC cruise before in Europe and found the staff very friendly and helpful. Thanks Emma for showing us around this beautiful ship.
rollar skating!!so fun. thank you Emma
Great review Emma! Your MSC cruise videos are slowly changing my mind after all of the negative reviews that are out there. 👍
Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
I'm sure it all depends on what you personally enjoy, but I've had a great time on MSC Cruises. And the price is hard to beat!
Wow, this ship looks impressive 🤩
So cool right?! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Great cruise review. Always look forward to your reviews, you're are my top choice for cruise reviews.
Thanks so much 🥹❤️
Cruise Review, Loved the food, shows, and endless activities onboard MSE Cruises!
As a french guest, I'm actually quite happy with what I've had on MSC until now. I bet the service on american cruises must be very high so that so many seem to be annoyed with how MSC-crew behave on board.
Anyway, speaking a foreign language is mandatory for us when we travel ou of France, so I really enjoy listening to so many foreign cruisers, that sometimes struggle as much as I do with english. It's always fun when we try all together to understand one another.
Thanks for the review, as always. The World Europa is on my list for a next cruise, and you have very highlighted the ship with all those vids.
I bet we will enjoy it a lot once on board (just need to find the time for it ^^ )
It's a "Grain of Salt" here in Texas.
Ha ha, love it. Thank you! 😁❤️
Same here in Maryland! 🦀🦀
loved the tea lounge! those are the best looking cookies i think i've seen you post!
Emma, you are such a talented presenter. I won't bother looking anywhere else for cruise reviews. Your videos are fantastic informative and entertaining. Thank you for making them
Thanks so much for watching and your kind words! I appreciate it 😀❤️
We're doing a 7-day on this ship at the end of March! So glad I get to hear your opinion of it!

I'm always so impressed by your willingness to try anything and everything offered onboard a cruise! Roller skating at sea seems bonkers, and yet, that's something I'd love to try! And that huge winding slide, wow, so cool.
Also, I'm with you on the need for banter. I'll do it, but I certainly don't find anything rude about simple asked and answered interactions.
Great video as always.
Just booked a cruise on the World Europa, was hoping you'd do a video on it! I never understood the bad rep MSC has, well outside of Americans because the European style customer service they aren't used to
Young lady, from a Yank who lived in the UK in 1959 and 60 while with the US Air Force, and loves to cruise, you are so adorable that I can hardly wait until your next video. I enjoy so much your presentation and your very thoughtful critiques. For the record, you are bloody adorable.
Great insight into the genre thanks
Nice review! That secret bar thing is so cool, way different.
Great review Emma, thanks!
“Pinch of salt”
“Grain of salt”
How about “RIM of salt!” sipping margaritas!!
By the time we saw the shows open for availability in the APP the rear theater they were always full. We found the ship crowded, and really loud. There was a long line for dinner even when you showed up for your dinning time. They were always asking us to buy something probably because people are getting on every day. Food was good about half the time. I actually liked the food in the buffet better than the main dinning hall which never happens for me on a cruise.
Did you go in school holidays perhaps?? I think I preferred the buffet too. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
@@EmmaCruises we were on in mid November. I don’t think that was a holiday for the kids
Great video Emma. Our ship was docked next to World Europa in Barcelona last November and it truly dwarfed our Viking ship. Really enjoyed watching the light show that Europa put on before it departed.
Great video my family and I and big fans of MSC and we cant wait to try the World America!!!
Way too large for me. In 2022 we took a Viking cruise from Sweden around the Baltic to Denmark, Poland, Germany and Norway. The ship had seven hundred passengers on it, not nine thousand!!!! And once you sail on Viking you can't go back.... no kids, no casinos, no fees to eat in special restaurants, no art shows, no roaring tunes by the pool, it was lovely.
i think we use "grain of salt" a little differently too in the US--we don't use it to say "don't take it too personally", we use it when we want someone to interpret something with skepticism. for example, if I say something like "I don't think coffee is a good drink, but I'm someone who's very sensitive to caffeine, so take that with a grain of salt"
Yes, that’s how we use it in the UK, like, ‘this is what he said, but he’s biased because…., so take it with a pinch of salt’. Maybe when people first got to the US from Europe, they were running out of salt… 😂
Just booked this ship today! Cant wait
I will be on the MSC Europa for Christmas this year. I was excited beforehand, but even more so after this review. Thanks Emma
Have the best time ever!!!! 😀❤️
Emma, how come you were allowed to film and yet Ben and David were banned from filming or even taking pictures on this very same ship?
I would also like to know the answer to this question!
No idea why they weren't allowed to, theres hundreds and thousands of TH-cam videos made about this ship. Thanks for watching. 😀👏🏼
@@EmmaCruises I think it may have something to do with your slightly subtle filming technique. Especially the way you narrate over the video that you are capturing which makes it less obtrusive and therefore not as noticeable to other passengers. Perhaps I’m wrong about this too, but I just found that whole incident most unusual and the reaction from the cruise staff quite alarming. Love your channel!
I just watched cruise with Ben and David, they were giving a positive review, they had reviewed MSC in the past with negative feedback. On day 3 they were told to stop filming, in fact they could not take any pictures at all. Filming was discreet, people were blurry or not in focus. Their treatment was rude and disrespectful. I will cancel my upcoming cruise. Watch the video to get your own perspective on their experience. Even though they were treated poorly by MSC they still posted a positive review
I'm getting ready to comment the same thing. There's absolutely no way I would go on a MSC cruise. My husband and I have been looking at cruises and we will be getting ahold of Don's Family Vacations. We're going to pay for my daughter and her family to go with us. When we get ready to book our cruise, we won't book one through MSC. I know that us not going on an MSC isn't a big deal to MSC. I told my husband about what happened to Ben and David and both of us won't take a risk on going on a MSC cruise.
I saw the video. If they were filming in an area and other customers were complaining... if we were not there then we don't really know how discrete the filming was. Yacht Club is a super private area. PS: My msc cruise is already booked for this season :)
Look at the update from the guys.
People complained. Ben and David don’t get special treatment and other people also paid to be on those cruises and it isn’t a public space they can just leave if they’re uncomfortable. MSC was right to heed those complaints.
Always outstanding content and information
Thank you! 😁❤️
Oh man that tea lounge looks so cool! Its the simple things that really can make for a good time
We call it a grain of salt in the US.
Grain is a unit of mass equal to 64.79891 milligrams Grains as a unit are usually found where a mass is small, and needs yo be extremely precise.
A pinch is a less precise unit of measure, between 1/8 and 1/24 of a teaspoon.
I imagine a grain and a pinch of salt is more or less the same.
I love the idea of a secret bar!❤❤❤
Looks fab. Nice video 👍🏻
You must starve your self between cruises to keep so fit!
Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
I wonder why they allowed you to film when they banned Ben and David from filming on the same ship?
No idea why they weren't allowed to, theres hundreds and thousands of TH-cam videos made about this ship. Thanks for watching. 😀👏🏼
@@EmmaCruises I'm a huge fan of yours! Thanks for the response!
Because Emma is less loud and in your face. I realy enjoy Ben and David but their filming and recording can be intrusive for passengers in the vicinity. It just takes one passenger to complain at a high level.
How can they ban someone from filming anything? I'd be filming, taking pictures, doing what I'd want to have fun and posting on FB.. sending to friends.. etc... 99%of the people on board do this... yeah, she's a TH-cam person, but, what? Banned to film? That's false... that's got to be false.

Fab video!
I love the wider chairs in the theatre… being a… wider cruiser 😂
Love the fact MSC almost always have food and drinks
New viewer here. We are really enjoying your videos. Thanks for sharing them.
We went Yacht Club on this ship last year. Truly loved it and it’s our second MSC cruise. We loved the speakeasy and the entertainment in this bar was by far the best. Also found this to have the best spa which we had access to, and the yacht club pool was the first time I could relax around a pool. We had breakfast every morning in the sun up on the front pool deck. I’ll be honest we have only ever done yacht club and even though we enjoyed other parts of the ships, I don’t think I could ever cruise any other way. The theatre shows we’re not as good as other ones we’ve seen. The back theatre stank of stale smoke which was horrible for a new ship and I hated that smoking was allowed in this area and also at the end of the promenade. It meant we couldn’t use these spaces. I also tasted the beer that is brewed on board and it was lovely!
Also really love how MSC modern ships have the lifts where you pick your floor and then are told which lift to get into it. Also love the wristband you get to use as your key card and to pay for things.
This ship has some really gorgeous looking spaces
You are very good at what you do. Very clear.

As an ex-New Yorker who was behind the scenes of some broadway shows…and miss it!, one of the best selling points for cruising is, 1st the travel (of course) and 2nd the shows! I love that about cruise ships! Also, whales swimming on the floor as the passengers walk above them, would bump this cruise to next level. It would be super cool 😎
Can’t wait for MSC World America!
