  • Ariadna is one of the G5 nations. They were settled in the 21st Century through Project: Dawn. The project was a failure, but the colonists endured.
    In Part 1, I explain Project Dawn's origins and how it all fell apart.

      @@WarLore Mostly that it presented the lore in a way that was comprehensible. The material that CB puts out is broken up over in-universe news articles and so on that make it hard to follow sometimes. Plus putting a voice on it lets you sort of... bring it to life more?

    Does anyone know why they are called Antipodes?

    • @WarLore
      @WarLore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      “Antipodes” is the term for land masses on the other side of the planet.
      The term was first used in Classical Greece. Roman thinkers believed that the world had three regions; a habitable zone in the north, the “torrid zone” in the equator, and another zone in the south - this zone was the Antipodes. The romans believed that the equator was too hot to ever sail past, however, and that they would never know what the antipodes were like.
      Medieval scholars used the term to refer to “antichthones” , which were the inhabitants of those southern climes.
      Antipode (singular) can rhyme with “honeybeel or “toad” But in general, “antipodes” rhymes with “honeybees”

    • @WarLore
      @WarLore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@iaindrews8709 Yeah, I think the name comes because of the idea that humans just thought they could never understand them.

      Antipodes in greek means "reverse leg". (αντι= ante, ποδι= pode, leg). It basically means they have dog legs.

    The antipode are based off of or maybe developed independently from a race from another science fiction book/story. The race was made of dogs like creatures that, by themselves, were just dogs, but the more dogs that gathered the smarter each individual would become.

      @@WarLore 'A Fire Upon the Deep' by Vernor Vinge.
      It's possible Vernor Vinge got the idea from Infinity. Not sure when antipodes were fleshed out, but infinity was released two years before 'A Fire Upon the Deep' was published.

    "Роскосмос chose only Russians" sounds accurate 😅 but I understand that the Tartary sectorial is made up of Kazaks, so did Russia only send ethnic Russians or national Russians?

    • @WarLore
      @WarLore  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All national Russians, but tot necessarily ethnic Russians. Kazaks and Siberians and others were sent, but no other neighboring countries like NASA, for example. (nobody from Kazakhstan, for instance)
