I've lived around the Big Sandy all my life in Boyd county and I've heard it called the Big Sandy the Little Sandy the Ohio River I don't know which one it is maybe it's all three but where's the water come from does it come from the Mississippi or is its own separate River

Would love to have a reference of Boone naming the Breaks. Tony Scales' book says there were two buffalo trails, one on either side of the Breaks, and Boone took one of the two, but says nothing about him naming the Breaks. Scales doesn't think the name was in use until the second half of the 19th century. Don't think Daniel himself much alluded to the 1767-68 trip. His son, in the book about his father, told of this trip and said it was on this trek that Boone killed his first buffalo at the David salt lick.

We know it was referenced in a 2018 Knoxville News story about the documentary "The Breaks: Centuries of Struggle," but we think we've seen it in other articles, too. In the research we've done for these Boone Videos, it seems that while most of the sources agree on the main outline of the story, they do differ on some of the details. If you come across the original source of that particular tidbit, please let us know. Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy the videos!
