Congresswoman Katherine Langley - Kentucky's First
Today we’re talking about Katherine Gudger Langley, the first woman from our state to be elected to serve in the United States Congress. She certainly took an unusual route to get there, and, unfortunately, that seems to have overshadowed her accomplishments. Telling her story requires that we discuss some of her husband’s career, but we will focus as much as possible on Mrs. Langley herself. Stick around to the end to hear about her encounter with aviation royalty.

A Halloween Folk Tale
มุมมอง 1.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this Pikeville History Moments video, we thought we’d allow ourselves to stray a little from our usual fact-based history in honor of Halloween, and indulge in a good old-fashioned ghost story. Here we talk about a supposedly true story about a Civil War officer’s encounter with a red-eyed demon on Elkhorn Creek near Jenkins. In the University of Pikeville’s Allara Library archives there is ...

My step-mom has a picture of "USA Queen Sally Baker" visiting her mother, a Mrs, Berggren, in hospital in Stockholm, Sweden in 1950. That led us to Google Sally Baker and find this wonderful video. Sally was an amazing woman.
my grandpas family are the maccoys he had pictues and news paper clippings not surewhen they moved ohio
know both sides of families they are good people,
New news to truth
This is great! I know Hollywood exagerates a bunch, this is so wildly different than the story we were told in the mini-series. I am salivating, to read the rest of the history!
Nothing cold about how Uncle Jim got his … had it coming for yrs. Best part of the movie is seeing him popped.
On one side they could have let the law deal with them but the chances are devil ans and the others feared they wouldn’t get true justice unless they did it themselves
I don't think CottonTop full understood what was going to happen to him that they were going to hang him that day
Was he retarded like the series suggested?
What an amazing woman she was ❤
RIP CottonTop I'm sorry
The cat got a raw deal I don't think CottonTop understooee😊d what h
Some of the guys here at the fire department were digging up some old history of the department and we came across this video and we were hoping that you could tell us where the reservoir in the video would be located hoping that we could try to find it? We would greatly appreciate it and thanks in advance!

Poor Roseanna. Her story is really sad.
Very interesting
Very interesting
Why did you leave out Cap Hatfield at the end of the video? What happened to him after the raid?
He run to another state to hide from his warrant for the murders of the 3 boys and while on the run and not home providing for his family his 7 yr old son died of malnutrition Sad with his grandpa Devil Hatfield living near by and that's why when Cap died he was Not buried with his daddy Devil in the family cemetery
Hello , my name is Corinthia Faye Idell McConnell. My great grandparents are George and Martha Hatfield, I family is resting at Union cemetery.
Very nicely done.
The McCoys began shooting. The fire stated from the 8lbs of black powder stored in the cabinet of the kitchen from a spark from one of their firearms. The McCoys should have just came out peacefully and negotiated a peace treaty putting an end to the feud for ever.
Very interesting 👍
No peace treaty was ever reached between Randall McCoy and Devil Anse Hatfield this is a bunch of hogwash
A very good video, it brought back some old memories, I’ve lived here all my life!!!!❤
He was a weak man

Salyersville
This was the starting of this nation being cursed by putting a woman in Congress God curse all Nation who put women into public offices
I grew up in Pikesville Ky. I'm kin to the McCoy's on my grandmothers side. I just think it is really sad what Randall went through. The man lost all most all his children. His wife was never the same. But that wasn't enough pain for this man. After everything he went through he burned to death. Devil Ans dies in his sleep. Why was Randall's life hell on earth? I know the feud was both family's fault but I believe poor Randall got the worst of it. I'm so proud to be related to him. I hope he finally found some peace.
because the McCoys were POS and Randall sat there and played God
That is PIKEVILLE, NO S.
I’m kin to the Hatfields on my grandfathers side. Crazy..
😂😂😂😂😂 what is a kin
The man married his cousin, what did you expect?
We don't know what really went on between any of them
Rosanna was treacherous
Covid nineteen PLANdemic sir. God bless. I'm here on marrowbone Creek road in the Elkhorn area for the last 37 years. I have never seen a more beautiful and peaceful place
This is sad.
Better do more research bud was 15
He was born in 1864 and died in 1882. What more research should he do? Randolph Mcoy Jr, "Bud" was 18 when he was killed. Look it up, the historical birth and death records are there.
@timchilders3535 those aren't always representative to be fair. But inconsequential at the end pfvĺ
Bud was a 15 yr old boy and not involved in the election day incident but was grabed up by the Hatfield gang, mistaken for another brother that was involved 🙄 😢
@@timchilders3535those dates are typo errors, those type errors were common in those days, inaccurate record keeping, miss spellings, lost or destroyed records, was common
@@lisalking2476oh, really? Who'd they mix him up with? 🤔
My grandfather is John Franklin phillips and my grandmother is Emma Jean Hatfield how crazy would it be to be related to both Bad Frank in the feuding Hatfields.
Sad story
Where are the death photos?
I went to the job core school there in pikeville it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had I love the mountains. The people were nice how many really good friends and then I moved to West Virginia, and I gotta say that is by far one of the most beautiful places that I have ever lived in my life and I’m working on trying to move back
Move on back, glad to have someone who appreciates good company.
It started with the death of Asa McCoy! Not the election!
Sounds like they all had a screw loose.
Whiskey does that 🥃😂 😂 😂
I thought the McCoy mother was named “Sarah”, but Sally
Her given name was Sarah, but she reports from the time and from descendants indicate that she was usually called Sally. We just chose the name we thought she was most often called.
@@pikevillehistorymoments7860 ok, thank you!
It is
@@pikevillehistorymoments7860you know her name was Sarah
From what I've seen and heard old man McCoy was just a bitter old man
Dumb people doing stupid things. Now there are more of them.
Great storytelling! Thanks for sharing
My Grand pa fault at the middle to end of ww2 and then to the end of the Korean War they don’t make men like that know more I wished I was half as strong as him.
Good Ole Johnse saved a guards life like a life guard but a guard life 👍🏻
Thanks for the upload Godbless
Johnse was pardoned after saving a prison governors guards life possibly a fight or a hostage situation but he saved a man's life
I do not believe Anse Hatfield would give orders or even condone shooting women and girls as they were non-combatants and viewed as the weaker sex. So it must have been one of the other men who said to shoot whoever came out the door.
Anderson Hatfield was very sick at the time and wasn't there . I believe Johnse has something to do with it. But blame is always pointed at Jim Vance
