  • Are you wondering if you should go stage 1 on your 2.5 Volkswagen? These are my thoughts on the Stage 1 tune for the Volkswagen 2.5 from Integrated Engineering. I have driven it for 1 year and 10k miles. The stage 1 tune from IE is definitely worth it. The car drives so much better!

      i’m very torn on my mk6 2.5 jetta. i’m running a header back straight pipe (no cats,mufflers,and resonators) i want a tune to both make my car faster and make some gunshots. i’d get an intake as well as a trans tune to help cope with the tune. my car is a 6 speed auto though. do i go for an ie stage 1 or 2 tune. i do want something more aggressive as well

    Just want to add that if you want to improve gas mileage, leave it in gear on decel. This will go into fuel cut, which is better on mileage. If putting in neutral, it will be like idling only at a higher rpm thus using more fuel. The only exception would be if you get a tune that adds "pops and bangs" on decel in gear which does a burst of fuel on the exhaust stroke. It only does it very briefly (or should only!), so it may still be better to leave it in gear.

      Hi Ian you seem to know what you’re talking about and I had installed an IE tune on my Audi and I noticed that those pops and bangs gave me a rich engine. I had a high flow cat and a catback downpipe from cts turbo installed and had no clue why I had that problem after installing the pop and bang tune. Maybe has to due with it being straight piped currently as well. Working on a muffler.

    • @VoyageRC
      @VoyageRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not used the reds but I would imagine it would not be noticeable. But if your coils are old a new set will rejuvenate the system.

    • @MiguelGarcia-vj7oo
      @MiguelGarcia-vj7oo ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the red Audi R8 coil packs do not add any extra HP...... so whats the point? the OEM VW ones have a higher margin of fail rate. VW states good for the life of the car, but 100k miles are recommended for replacement. They do fail due to heat soak from the engine cover. The R8 ones are way better made with better alloy coating completely reducing your chances of break down.....cheers.

    Downshifting to decelerate shouldn't waste extra fuel. The RPMs will go up but fuel cut is engaged. You can verify this with a good scan tool (VW uses VAGCOM which is total balls, though - my scanner that cost me a grand doesn't work good with my Beetle).
    When you downshift and don't gas it (let it coast) the wheels are spinning the engine thru the driveline, not fuel / combustion, it's basically the reverse of power delivery. The compression strokes will help to slow the vehicle down at a consistent rate without using the brakes, a lot like a diesel's engine brake. It's advisable to downshift without worrying about wasted fuel.
    I've even had times when I lost a master cylinder and was able to drive in the city for a few hours in traffic using only the trans to slow down, and then using the parking brake to engage a stop once below 10mph.
    Either way, thanks for the video. I haven't seen any reviews of the IE "tune." If the ECU fuel / ignition maps can be reflashed I don't understand why it isn't just reprogrammable to any tune I would like.

    • @VoyageRC
      @VoyageRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      About 18. Noticeable on the ol’ butt dyno. The drive-ability is way better too.

    I got my ECU tune, and I’ve got the TCU tune for my automatic. Kinda tough to tell the difference the TCU tune makes, but I put them both on at the same time. I’m almost considering returning it

    • @VoyageRC
      @VoyageRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The TCU tune allows it to rev past factory red line. You are getting higher revs with that tune.

      Do I need to worry about buying anything else to withstand the higher revs once I add the TCU tune?

      Yeah, not really. Plus you are switching to 91 or 93 octane premium fuel. Is it worth it? Absolutely!

      It’s preset with the tunes. Stage 1 increases slightly and stage 2 goes to 7200.
