My notes from this match: -Once again, everyone goes after Wes for whatever reason when he's clearly not even in the game. -Tutoring for 3 tutors, aka everything wrong with competitive EDH -Sound effect volume was WAY too loud compared to the normal video volume. I had to turn the volume way up just to hear well because you guys tend to mumble a lot and talk in very low voices, then sad trombone about blew my speakers out, haha. -I hope everyone got their Competitive EDH fix with this one because EDH games where everyone is tutoring every turn desperately digging for their "I win" combos are extremely boring to watch, especially when they drag on and on due to everyone apparently being so focused on comboing that they forgot to include disruption for disruption. Still appreciate what you guys do, though. This is my favorite Magic gameplay series to watch, so keep it up!
These videos are getting better and better, thanks for putting them out! Would you guys switch up seats every couple of episodes? I think it would help change the dynamic of the games.

Parnell misplayed between 38:00 and 39:00. Warp Pridemage, Cast Food Chain, Kill table with Purphoros triggers. Also on minute 26, like said previously, Pridemage takes 1 to activate.
+Totally not Nik also why not have molternsteel + skythrix-dragon tyrant combo in your scion deck? it's the sole reason 5 color combo goes with scion instead of the other commanders because you have a built in combo with your commander along with the hermit druid combo
Fun games. I just don't understand how decks filled to the brim with tutors fail to include a Swords to Plowshares or even a Path to Exile. Now it just became games where Elesh owns up the entire board because noone bothered to include some removal in the deck.
+aayacrance In actual comp. EDH, there isn't much spot removal. Players don't willfully give themselves card disadvantage, so sweepers and card draw control the games more. You run less counterspells (unless you're Azami or Damia) and play proactively or play stax.
HugSeal42 in comp edh targeted removal is bad u need mass sweepers and with the creation of leovold spot removal has become even less rare i now usually only 1 or 2 spot removal cards in favor of tons of sweepers
I wouldn't go so far as to call it bad. Inherent card disadvantage? Naturally. But it is also crucial since one opponent can gain such an insane advantage that not losing parts of a card in value would be irrelevant. This game is an excellent example (I think, long time since I watched it). Elesh norn ran rampant and you lost far more value than you would have by including a single spot removal in a deck. I am not talking about filling the deck with spotremoval. I am talking about including 11 or 2 tutorable which you say yourself that you include even with leovold around (he wasn't around at the time of this video).

How about a game of obscure tribal commander decks? I suppose you could do a regular tribal theme like elves vs merfolk vs zombies vs goblins, but it might be more fun using less common ones, like wolves and cats?

Elesh Norn's effect is state based meaning all creatures get -2/-2 before priority can be passed. In response to casting elesh norn you can sacrifice or in response to pod being activated. If elesh norn's ability said when she enters the battlefield creatures get -2/-2 then you would be able to respond.

nope he could've won. chasos warp the pride mage. then food chain. the pay 30 lifr for 10 red mana. food chain his creatures on board for 29 mana and just cast prossh 3 times
Around 24 minutes, when Stephen drew the entomb, he could have entombed alter of dementia, swung with Sun Titan to bring it back, then played Birthing Pod and still had 1 mana available to sac Titan, getting Boonweaver and executing the combo. That's all taking Thalia into account. With Wes mostly tapped out, Parnell with only green up (potentially relevant for Nature's Claim), and Suarez on derevi prison which is usually light on counters I would have gone for it.
I love how Commander is really focused on having fun and playing "fair." One week there was a new guy who came to our play group and he kept boasting about his combo deck that was supposedly super OP, and that first week he did win with some cheesy combo in multiple games. The next week one of the other guys made a deck that would destroy that guy's combo deck, and the combo deck lost hard multiple games in a row. The guy got the message that if you bring a combo deck to a non-competitive Commander game the rest of us will bury you with decks made to counter it. Since then he switched to playing more fun, relaxed commander decks and we're all back to having fun.

I know this has been a year, I was just rewatching and looked at Jon Suarez's decklist. He only has 98 cards on the list.... That is not including the now banned Prophet.
I really think they have a beef against cEDH (Competitive EDH) and the music is meant to underline how much they despise combo victories. From a showmanship perspective though, it's partly understandable. But as a viewer I wouldn't mind there being more cEDH games. I like skillful play, and badly playing your deck to make things more "fun" makes me angry.
So blood artist makes target player lose life, not each opposing player. So couldn't Steven decide who came in 3rd vs 2nd? (Not that he would likely have decided different since Suarez was in the points lead, but still). Zulaport Cuttthroat does say that each player loses said amount of life, if that were the card in play this force the loop to not concede shenanigans would have made sense.
I feel like Wes was playing Kingmaker, unknowingly. Why didn't he blow up the skull clamp? It would make Justin a lot more manageable, but most likely giving Jonathan certain victory. Furthermore, Wes could have used Pull from Eternity when Jonathan used Venser on Gradle, setting him back quite a bit, mana wise.
I've seen a sweet little format where they can only use cards, and generals, that are under $2. I'd love to see what you guys come up with. Big fan of your videos, guys! Keep up the great work!
Reivalark can't even get back boonweaver giant though is the problem though. It's power is 4 so his combo actually fizzled since he didn't have saffi on field or graveyard.
He also misplayed game 2 by demonic tutoring for Purphoros, saccing Prossh to ashnods altar, then recasting dealing everyone 16 damage to everyone else, killing Stephen Green, Wes Wise, Venser, and half healthing Jon Suarez, Suarez wouldn't be able to kill Justin at 33 life so the pass back would simply be a sac and recasting or Prossh to kill Jon.
And why did nt Wes cast his general instead of passing turn after turn after turn without doing anything? Also he could have used the gsz and tried to save himself. Did the director say that wes has to lose this game
Im new to EDH but i would like to see a commander versus where u can only use cards from the set ur commander is in and the set an opposing commander is from. Ex: if u use Drana, liberator of malakir as ur commander and ur opponent uses tasigur the golden fang as his/her's thn u can only use cards from the BFZ and khans block.
And each of their commanders would have to be from completely different sets and u cant mirror pick. So if drana chose to copy tasigur thn tasigur cant choose drana. All depends on who picks first i suppose

If you announce what you're searching for and pass turn...it shouldn't be a timer. You're not taking away from game play time really.

Im new to EDH but i would like to see a commander versus where u can only use cards from the set ur commander is in and the set an opposing commander is from. Ex: if u use Drana, liberator of malakir as ur commander and ur opponent uses tasigur the golden fang as his/her's thn u can only use cards from the BFZ and khans block.
And each of their commanders would have to be from completely different sets and u cant mirror pick. So if drana chose to copy tasigur thn tasigur cant choose drana. All depends on who picks first i suppose
