I’m still amazed that Anderson Hunt didn’t make it in the nba . I’m not saying making it as a star I’m saying I’m shocked he didn’t just sustain a career on 12 man rosters. He could shoot the ball and play defense and was an awesome leaper. You look at someone like a BJ Armstrong who played like 10 years in the nba and wasn’t as skilled as Hunt. I just don’t understand that kind of thing.

@@therealdarrell282 He definitely should have stayed another year no doubt. Btw the year AFTER Stacey Augman , Larry Johnson, Anderson Hunt, Greg Anthony & Greg Ackles left UNLV was one of the greatest one season college coaching in the history of college basketball. I was no fan of Tarkanian but that season made me realize he was one helluva coach and teacher of how to play the game.
Back to Hunt, they likely would’ve gone undefeated had he stayed that year because they almost went undefeated without him, though still banned from postseason. As for accepting the role as PG at the next level I’ll take your word for it because I didn’t know that part of his story.
I still find it surprising he didn’t make rosters. Another observation about him is he played well in the big games while in college, often he played better than anyone on the team. But yes he would be way too small to play shooting guard in the nba.

Wow, the BJ Armstrong comparison is interesting. He definitely had more athleticism but with BJ's shooting so he would've been better. He would've had to of been in a BJ situation where his job was really to spot up and shoot not be a traditional ball handling point guard. At the time most teams were still drafting traditional for position, especially small guards. I think he would fit perfect in today's NBA.

UNLV got fucked with Georgetown being given a #8 seed out west. Even though the Hoyas lacked guards, UNLV didn't deserve a team in the 2nd round with two NBA players in the starting lineup in the 2nd round. They deserved the easiest path to the final four as the overall #1 seed and an unbeaten team. As Jerry Tark said in his autobiography, this was all about the NCAA trying to screw over UNLV for violations they never committed. At the end of the day, the NCAA could never bust Tark, so they had to pay him millions to prevent him from taking them to court and exposing their selective enforcement procedures.

@@MattSmith-iq1ld just watch the utter lack of defense by Augmon... It doesn't always have to be about $.... could've been death threats, family members at risk, gambling debts, or maybe nothing... But u never know... "The Fixer" WAS at that game.

I agree 👍💯... I think they got paid real well!! The only difference in the game was Grant Hill and ain't no way he can make up a 30 point difference... UNLV was the best team by far vs Duke... it's funny how money 💰 changes things in life lol.

This Hoya team gave Rebels problems because of the front court. This game made other teams less fearful of Rebels. Duke was embarrassed the previous year by Rebels in the title game so Duke was on a mission. Rebels probably didn't respect Blue Devils going into the game .

Stacy was wack!!! NEVA was a fan of his game. All left hand and mostly scored on breakouts. Solid defender though........

That Hoya backcourt was WACK!!! 2 HOF's with NO BACKCOURT playing keep away!!?? So much for recruiting!!!!😁

They still were not an 8 seed. That backcourt was youthful, but you do not see the frontcourt men that G'Town had as an 8 seed.

The players Coach Thompson recruited were scorers coming out of highschool. A lot AllAmericans. For some reason they could not score in college. Thats the main reason they kept getting knocked out early in tournaments. Mourning should have had deeper runs in college than he did especially with Mutumbo.

I watched about six minutes of this game and realized not only did John Thompson recruit any shooters, all black college, but he didn’t recruit one ball handler.

Looking back UNLV really wasn’t a good shooting team. It was pts off turnovers and inside play then hope Hunt or Anthony could get on a streak from outside
