This was so helpful, thank you for taking the time to put this together! I could just NOT visualize how much soil was in a cubic yard, but you've completely helped me understand. Thanks from Maine!
Wow, this is easily the best explanation AND visual I've seen on this. It's something that's always confused me a bit and I never understood how much to order until now. Thank you SO MUCH for this!
Awesome and needed. My mom was complaining yesterday about a bulk 3 cubic load of garden product at her house. She said she felt ripped off and that it wasn't what she paid for. Now she knows and hopefully will be a happier customer. Thank you for providing this.
Great video for eyeing things up. You can measure all you want but if you don’t have experience with gardening or landscaping this is a great way to show it realistically!
Well done! Thank you for making this video simple, quick and to the point. I searched for 20 mins or so online and was confused by so many different answers. This is what the average lay person can identify with.
Hey thank you so much! I really appreciate it when people make videos that they realize there not going to make a million viewers! But do it for the fact they realize that this can actually help someone learn something and expecially new landscapers! So I take my hat off to you sir!
Beautiful! Even the landscaping company that I called to have a delivery couldn't give me this information! I subscribed! This video rocks and I'm saving it! :) Peace!
You don’t have to feel it because you know that’s what happened. However, it wasn’t a weekend warrior. It was a landscaper who saw an opportunity to blame a new operator. The downside to the client was the fact our bucket was 1.2 yards. So, we decided to make a video and share the content.
Thank you Google, it led me to you!! I just couldn't picture a cubic uard measurement! I listened and paid attention. I was hoping to bag my own, no pick up One thing to see it in a pickup, another to see it in bags I'm not sure they will let me? Thank you will keep your site in mind and refer others to your site!!!
Seeing the pile of material versus seeing bags is so deceiving. At the store it looks like three 40 pound bags of dirt is one cubic yard, lol. And the cubic yard of dirt doesn't look like very much. My conclusion is buying dirt by the 40 pound bags is a waste of money, the cheapest I found was $2.50/bag which is like two shovels full of dirt.
Thanks! Here's an SAT Math question. I've got a lot of dirt/sand available nearby. I've heard a bobcat can carry a 1/2 a cubic yard. I've got a 50x50 clearing I need to elevate 2 feet. How many trips will it need to make? BTW, can a bobcat dig out a bucket right from the earth?
50x50 is 2500 square feet, and you need to raise it 2ft so you need 5000cu-ft. There are 27 (3*3*3) cu-ft in a cu-yard, so you need 5000/27 = 185.2 cu-yards. You need 2 trips per cu-yard, so 185.2*2 = 370.4. So I'm not sure if I would say 370 or 371 trips.
I have to load a tri.axle truck of black peat. 33' x 7.8' x 5 ' feet. How many cubic yards can i squeeze in after stuffing and packing in by pressing down the peat... Is 55 cu yards possible? A friend loaded same load and said he got over 65 yards!
This video is a failure for me. Not one word regarding what a cubic yard of concrete looks like and nothing showing how it looks when layed out. Which is what I was looking for. Thanks for nothing

Yes I felt so dumb when I typed it up on Google. Then even asked for a video. What a blessing! Thank you

Why do I feel this video is a reply to people who were complaining they didn't get a cubic yard from him...
You don’t have to feel it because you know that’s what happened. However, it wasn’t a weekend warrior. It was a landscaper who saw an opportunity to blame a new operator. The downside to the client was the fact our bucket was 1.2 yards. So, we decided to make a video and share the content.
Thank you, pretty illustrative and useful.

Crazy now do the price difference :) I feel the the 27 bags is going to be lot more.
I can’t get a truck to bring me dirt I need about 15tons how many bags of dirt would I need ?

My conclusion is buying dirt by the 40 pound bags is a waste of money, the cheapest I found was $2.50/bag which is like two shovels full of dirt.
Unfortunately this is what I thought it would look like and I have 12 cubic yards to move after I order it and have it delivered

Bro why is the filmer so zoomed on you, film the pile so I can see!!!!
I have to load a tri.axle truck of black peat.

Fluff 48 yards. compressed???? Couldn’t tell you. Peat probably has a 15% compaction rate. The 55 yards you mentioned are doable.
Doesn’t take the retail clear plastic off the tape measure so he can return it to Home Depot for a full refund! OLE!
27 sq ft too
Randy Lemmon sent me here...
Thanks for visiting! Do you have any questions we can help you with?
The Ground Up Houston why did you cut off this awesome guy when he was sharing his name !!! At the end of the video lol
Levi, my name is Luis Chamorro. Still here at The Ground Up. This is the first time I’ve watched the video since we published it.
OK, this is too clear....
This video is a failure for me. Not one word regarding what a cubic yard of concrete looks like and nothing showing how it looks when layed out. Which is what I was looking for. Thanks for nothing
