  • In today’s home vlog we catch you up with what’s going on this week in our lives. We start a little later in the day with one of our favorite vegan recipes from our Purple Carrot meal subscription box- gnocchi with pumpkin miso butter and bok choy. It usually comes with brussel sprouts but they sent us bok choy this week. I’ll leave the recipe down below if you want to check it out. Then we sit down to eat and talk about what learning games Jackson likes to play on the iPad! Then after Jackson heads to bed, we sit down give you a little update about what we’ve got going on this week and in the coming weeks. We had to plan for Tim’s surgery and for some other doctor visits. We’re a little nervous for his surgery but we know everything will be okay. Thank you for letting us have this laid back day and thank you for hanging out at home with us! Thank you for watching and we’ll see you tomorrow with a new vid!

Don’t feel like you have to apologize for screen time and little guys. A lot of the hype about limiting screen time is bunk anyway. He is building neurological pathways like crazy. Hand eye coordination. Motor planning, reasoning and anticipating action and reaction. It’s fine. Jackson was born into a tech heavy world and it’s going to be part of his life. There was a time when reading too much was considered a terrible personality killer for kids. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Jackson is a beautiful bright little boy with two very engaged parents of whom he is the apple of their eyes. Y’all are doing an incredible job with him. He’s truly blessed and a blessing in return. Don’t apologize for being awesome. ❤️

@@colleendopico8678 my little guy is six years old. He knew his way around an iPad before he could speak. We were very heavy into The Wiggles! (My husband has two kiddos from his first marriage and they watched the original wiggles quite a bit. Goofy guys but entertaining. Let me just say, the new wiggles…not bad. I was and will always be partial to the Red Wiggle! 😍) I could get him to eat quite a bit more when the Wiggles were singing! That particular children’s group is all about bright colors and music and moving their little bodies. My son actively engaged with those videos. It was not passive sitting and staring by any means! My family and extended family is stacked with pediatricians, peds occupational therapists, teachers etc. We actively shared the latest and greatest apps for the pre-Pre school set that would challenge those emerging skills and neurological development. Sorry to ramble. I just hate it when any parent feels like they have to apologize for the much maligned “screen time”. It’s fine. It’s a part of their lives that will continue to grow. My son, who was in pre school when the plague descended and the world lost its mind, became a home school kid to my utter reluctance. His ability to navigate the tech world was a blessing. *brag alert!* At six he’s already finished second grade curriculum and he voraciously reads on a 4th grade level. Yay screen time! 😉

Sorry to hear about your hernia Tim. You got this! Take time to recover and rest. I got surgery, pushed myself, and my wounds took double the time to heal. Just take it one day at a time! 😜 Nurse Jen will be holding it down!

I stopped watching you guys for a while and now that I'm back, I have to say, you two seem even happier, you are amazing parents (of course), Jackson is SO big and adorable and it just warms my heart. You are amazing and so enjoyable to watch. I remember so vividly the heartbreaking videos about infertility. It just seemed so wrong that you didn't have kids - even though you were still enjoying life. But look at you now! I'm so glad that you were blessed to be parents - because it suits you quite well. And you didn't get rid of "Home Vlooooog!" And now Jackson's doing it - just amazing! It brings a joyful tear to the eye!

I like the home vlogs. I don't think you need to apologize for having lives. Tim, after your surgery make sure to walk as much as you can. It helps to get the air they pump into you out of your body. I've had a couple of abdominal surgeries and this was great advice that was given to me.

Definitely follow the Doctor on not lifting or pushing yourself until you heal. My hubby had that surgery, then two weeks later was out at NTC with his Army unit. Needless to say, he damaged the repair and had to have the surgery again a few years later. So go easy so the repair heals completely!!!

I had an umbilical hernia that I very seriously woke up one morning. It was quite small but so painful and it was pushed back into place (ouch) did not need surgery but I was on bed rest for a long time and that’s when I actually started watching your channel. You’ll be ok and best of recovery let your body rest & heal.

    Endoscopy nurse over here!
Prep is a little miserable but here are some tips!
2 days prior to surgery eat soft foods (pastas soups)
1 day prior clear liquids only with your prep! It’ll be way less aggressive while cleaning out :)

Just don’t rush your recovery. I had my gallbladder out, it’s a day surgery, laparoscopically, but it still requires some downtime, and no heavy lifting. It was manageable but definitely took a solid few days of doing VERY little. Sending you all the love for a fast and successful surgery and recovery.

Hope all goes well for your surgery Tim! I had my first surgery ever in October and I feel as if I almost wish I could have gotten one under my belt earlier on in life. Mine too was done laparoscopically with a robot and my recovery time was very minimal. The worst part for me was when the gas they put in the abdomen to have room to work was making its way out the next few days…felt like someone was sitting on my chest. Take care you guys! 😊

Tim, look at the prep as a fresh start haha! Im 37 and have had several serious surgeries, as well as colonoscopies. My advice is to take the time to rest, because healing in the first few days is how you get on your feet! Then, walk as much as you can. Get up and walk and move as long as you're comfortable. That makes you feel normal, helps you heal and gets you back to being you. Good luck, you've got this!

I've had two hernia operations, one in my groin and one huge one in my tummy which was 10cms. Anyway the point I'm trying to make is to let you know not to fear the operation. You'll be a little uncomfortable afterwards, but it's not pain we can't cope with.

Tim, best of luck with your surgery next month. I know exactly what you are going through because I had an hiatal hernia last year that has since been resolved on its own. But to see that it’s going to be your very first surgery, I can totally understand your nervousness. I’ve had so many procedures in my lifetime that I’ve lost count, and I am just a year younger than you. But I know that things will all be okay and Jenn will be there by your side just as she has been the last 17+ years. She’s definitely a keeper and I know you are thankful for her every single day. I am thankful to be able to call you three very dear friends. Sorry to steal this but with that being said I’m off to bed. See you for the next fantastic video tomorrow!! You got this Tim!! Hey Tim. Make sure the stuff you have to drink for prep is really really cold. Have plenty of clear liquids to drink. Not water. It's hard on stomach. Claim one of the bathrooms as yours only. You will spend most of the day there. If you do end up throwing up don't panic. It happens. I threw up my second dose the second one I had.

I'm watching this video while recovering from recent hernia surgery. I'm slightly older than Tim and mine was open. I had 5 hernias and muscle separation so it was a major surgery (7 hours) but I was up and walking around within 24 hours. You've got this. The prep isn't bad, just have lots of Popsicles and jello on hand.
But don't lift anything for the specified period by your doctor (it's how I ended up with the hernias. I had abdominal surgery in Feb and May of last year and didn't listen).
    You're gonna do great!

My husband had to have his appendix taken out last year, which was a similar laparoscopic surgery, and just a warning- they will probably tell him he can’t pick up Jackson for those first few weeks. We had a two year old at the time, and that was the hardest part- explaining why Dad couldn’t pick her up! Husband was in bed a couple of days. Another thing he said was that the air they put in for the laparoscopic surgery was really uncomfortable after. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!!

I had the same surgery…. The only surgery I’ve had. Extreme pain when I woke up….. which subsided the next day….. However I make the mistake of retuning to work after a couple days since I didn’t really do took much lifting. Just sitting for long periods of time was extremely painful. While I don’t think you’ll be bedridden for days, you may have to avoid sitting up for extended amounts of time. Good luck! Best wishes!

I recently had an endoscopy & colonoscopy at the start of the month. The prep isn’t terrible not fun to take but definitely something manageable. Getting a lot of your favorite liquid things makes being on a liquid diet much easier. Broth and popsicles are my favorites! If anything having to take the magnesium at certain times was the most annoying part because I really couldn’t get any sleep which tends to make my symptoms worse. I also have a hernia but mine is Hiatal so still waiting to find out how severe it is. Mine does give me some pain but I’m dealing with other pain so having it all at once is overwhelming. It’s much easier to over rest after surgery than to overdo it and makes recovery time longer!

Alright universe, you win-- this must be my sign to make all those appointments I've put off since March 2020. 😅 I so feel you on the nerves for surgery to go well. Like you said about the cold weather earlier in the video, it doesn't matter if your situation feels small if you compare it to others', your experience and feelings about it are valid and real! ❣

When my husband had knee surgery, they brought me in to sit with him after they prepped him and gave him sedatives. He was hilarious - I laughed so hard that tears were streaming down my face and it made me forget about any worries. From there, the time flew. I hope it goes well and that you're able to take away some happy memories from this experience as well as, you know, taking care of the problem.

I just had emergency laparoscopic surgery for an ovarian torsion and appendectomy at the same time with 3 incisions. I have to be honest and let you know don't take recovery lightly just because they say it's non-invasive and an 'easier' recovery because it's laparoscopic. It was rough and I am on week 4 and finally feeling more like myself. I was told 8 weeks of no lifting more that a gallon of milk (8lbs) and my husband still has to do everything around the house. I popped a stitch at week 3 taking off a shirt to shower which could cause a hernia so definitely make sure you don't over do it. Days after surgery I definitely couldn't do much except walk for about 5 minutes at a time inside and had to lay sitting up all day and night. I am very in shape and exercise every day and I was not expecting to not be able to even move or have any core mobility after surgery. I couldn't even put my own pants on! Ask your doctor about taking colace and be proactive about it not when you realize there is an issue...I had to take it for 2-3 days after surgery because you will get constipated and physically do not have the muscles to push (sorry TMI! lol). If they put air in your stomach for the surgery, be sure to walk around regularly days after to push the air out of your body...it can cause major pain if it doesn't get out. I made sure to not do anything 2 weeks after surgery and began to walk on my treadmill (dr approved) after that to get back into walking/running before I could bring weights back in weeks later. I was able to drive about 5 days after surgery but not far because sitting is still uncomfortable then. Hopefully your recovery will be quick and you will feel good as new afterwards! Praying for a good surgery!

It's hard, but take the recovery seriously! I had a surgery once and I really pushed it too soon because I'm an active person, and it really set me back and caused problems that could have been avoided. I regret it so much because it just made my recovery that much longer and harder. Surgery is tough on the body, take the time to really rest and go easy. You'll do great!

Hubby had hernia surgery this week, although his was not laparoscopic, it was reachable without it. I had laparoscopic surgery a few years back for endometriosis. It was during my Phd and I couldn't miss class. I went to class the same day as my surgery...don't recommend that. I don't remember it being a terribly long recovery though. There are limitations, but it was manageable. Good luck and good vibes!

I’m going for a septorhinoplasty on the 25th, so we will be surgery buddies! My dad got hernia surgery right before covid happened and his biggest tip is to really take your time and be careful. The weight and activity limits are there for a reason!

Surgery buddy here. I don’t have “ serious intestinal bulging “, but I am getting my left knee replaced in February. When I recover from that, I am getting surgery done on my right hand, and probably in September I will be getting my right knee replaced. I’m sure Tim will be fine. Don’t worry about the prep, you’ll just go to the bathroom a lot. It’s not too bad. It’s the same stuff you have to drink for prep for a colonoscopy..
I can’t believe how big Jackson is getting. I loved yesterday’s video when he was dressed like Captain Hook. Love your videos, you guys are the best. I’ve been watching all your Disneyland videos. We are going for the first time in late February of next year, and have no idea what to expect or how to plan.

Tim, glad you are getting your hernia taken care of. In 2019 I had to have emergency surgery for a rupture near my intestines. I had a hard time with the recovery and not pushing myself. I kind of did some stuff I shouldn't but I was okay. But you behave okay. Take care of yourselves. Thanks Trackers 😊

As someone under the age of thirty who got through my prep and managed my anxiety through your videos, prep really isn't as bad as most people make it out to be. Drink it through a straw, it goes much faster. Power through as much in each round as you can! Best wishes!

Just back to say that this morning was a throwback - made pizza eggs for breakfast.
Side note - Pennsylvania would love a Tracker visit! There are so many attractions! I live in Hershey, PA; yes, as in the chocolate. I can literally smell the Reese’s factory making peanut butter cups. Hersheypark is truly in my front yard. In the summer, I can hear people screaming on the roller coasters! Dutch Wonderland, an amazing family amusement park that Jackson would love, is 30 minutes from Hershey. Knoebel’s is about an hour north!

Sorry to hear about your impending surgery, Tim, but wishing you the best of luck. I had abdominal hernia repair years ago, and unfortunately, since I live alone, and have to "do stuff" (lifting, etc) it reoccurred, and it's been getting more and more prominent over the years, but I'm not gong to have it repaired - for me - again, living alone, recovery was too hard and painful, (was years ago, and was "open", scar's pretty big) and the risk of me tearing it again is too great, so I just deal with it. I'm sure Nurse Jenn will be a wonderful caretaker for you! I've had to do Magnesium Citrate for colonoscopies in the past - no fun, but tell yourself it's just for a day or so, and grin and bear it. :) Been SLOWLY trying to cross MANY doctor's visits off the list during the last 2 years, as I put MANY of them off entirely in 2020. Also - yes -= the Dentist - had to have a root canal in summer of 2002, and was VERY concerned. But thank goodness, all was OK.
Socially distanced hugs to the 3 of you from New Jersey. Stay strong, stay positive, stay healthy!

Definitely take it easy after your hernia operation. My husband had one in 2018 it was an upper hernia but it was very large (17 in) I know other family members had too just no heavy lifting for 3 - 4 weeks. He had soft food diet too. Take care and quick healing for you
