I found out that if you sneak around the taming pen while the wolves are in there, you will quickly level up your sneak skill aswell.
Step 1. Get wolf in cage
Step 2. Throw some meat on the ground
Step 3. Wait near by and be hidden
Step 4. Enjoy your tamed wolf
The wolf will have golden hearts floating above it, indicating that the taming process has begun. It should take approximately a day and a half to tame if it has access to meat. One thing to keep in mind: if you leave the area, the taming process appears to cease, so try to stay nearby.

Wolves aren't spawning cause you placed a campfire, and this blocks natural spawning of mobs in the area.
ok guys the reason you tame wolves is you can get them to follow you around and help you kill things.. helps in solo. also if you ahve a big base.. lead them to your base and let them wander around to wreck the random spawns that spawn through your defenses...

trick a wolf into a cage and drop meat in the cage, then run away so they dont destroy the cage, but be close enough so you can see the hearts float above them
Your tutorials have been an immense help, while I've tried to play this game on my own to discover on my own this is really nice for when I don't know how to do something in game.
The campfires create a radius where they can't spawn. You limited the area that they can spawn w/your warmth perimeters.
Hey fire, not sure if you know this. But if you tame a one-star or higher animal when they breed they produce the same star-level creature. as I'm sure you know the higher the star value the more loot they drop when they are killed. So if you breed one to three-star creatures you will get multiples of hide and beat when you kill the babies

You can also make a bunch of noise mining or breaking rocks on the outskirts of the mountain to aggro the wolves from a distance
For crying out loud... the STAYING near them is the thing I was missing. One night camping out watching and boom, a pair of tamed wolves. Thanks for that very important detail.

i personally wouldnt even bother until you unlock a wolf cape
cause that allows you to just stay in the snow as long as you want.
lol I did it with only a frost potion. Used first boss's power, walked normally, when he's about to hit me just press the sprint button, lured it, and yeah tamed it.

Just a heads up, Bonfire's wont go out in Blizzard weather on mountain biome but campfires will, so exploring with a single bonfire works too by destroying, rebuilding as you go

I recently noticed that if you sneak while feeding the animals you are taming helps in not making them frightened and they will beess likely to attack the structures around them!

It seems that they hunt down anything that can be a threat for their new "alpha" aka owner and ignoring anything that's not a threath (deers/passiv mobs), well thought from the devs I think

Raw meat will be consumed every 10 minutes
Look out! - Mobs spawned during the night will despawn during the day if too far from player(s). Additionally, tamed wolves spawned during the night will not follow the player, but instead run away from them. This can render the time spent taming worthless.
Wolves spawned during the night will ONLY eat, follow, and breed during the night and while you are near them.
Two tamed wolves with a happy status can result in a wolf cub. Feeding a hungry wolf will result in a happy wolf.
Tamed adult wolves drop wolf materials on death.
Breeding a wolf spawned during the night with another tamed wolf will result in a wolf cub that does not despawn during the day.
Tamed wolves cannot travel through portals.
WARNING: Tamed and wild wolves can be attacked by drakes. You can put a 'roof' on the taming pen to try and prevent their deaths.
Ocean Travel: Build a Dock with a double wide plank directly over your ships deck. wolves dont like to use stair cases, so make it as flat as possible. Once the wolf is over your boat, break the planks he is standing on, to load him onto your boat.
Star Rating: Like all monsters wolves are significantly more durable with star ratings. Enemies above level 1 gain 100% base health per level and 50% base damage per level.

You dont need to buuld any wood, snd keep fixing it. I tame all my animals in pits in the ground lol works great

@@paoloamoy319 Its very simple, just pickaxe the ground straight down and makes a hole. you can still spam jump out but the animals get stuck inside. Just dig like 3-4 hits straight down

I'm pretty sure that fires have a radius that prevents spawns around them. I wonder if one of your fires was blocking the wolf spawn you saw before

You can also dig a hole and let it chase you into it. They can't break ground.
Bear in mind, Spark is wearing the Troll armor, so he's moving at least 10% faster than metal armor wearers. A big deal when running from wolves.

Good point. I hate the slower movement speed, so I always stick with the troll armor. Plus I always end up with more troll leather than I know what to do with.
Just dig a hole put a wood platform over it with walls around the hole, bait wolf in, dismantle floor.
TLDR: bait it into a cage, feed it meat then run away so it stops aggro but not so far the wolf unloads. Video done.

You could have simply showed us the soups ingrediencies, where it is made, how to build the trap, the firepit line in the cold, then the breed mechanic in 5 minutes this was a whole bunch of fastfoward

I like most of your other videos but maybe you should listen to this one again yourself. It was really hard to sit through. You repeated yourself 100 times and it could have been 1/3 the length.

It's 15mins long, ain't no stretching on purpose ya bunch of cynics. He just figured out how to tame wolves by himself with trial and error, and then put his fresh discoveries in a video as fast as he could to get his vid out. Honestly, it must be heart breaking to read comments like this from kids. I imagine making this video was pretty stressful and time-consuming.
Gotta agree with you. the instructions are very easy to follow and it’s almost insulting as a viewer for the creator to assume I can’t follow them without as much repetition
Taming seems a bit of an afterthought in development. It's a really fun mechanic, when it works, but I wish they would expand on it. Even Minecraft has a much easier system. You can even heal your pets, or maybe set them to passive/aggressive.
They are expanding on it. Check out their roadmap. This game got 3 million players in 2 weeks. They weren't expecting that. Also early access, so they're going to be putting in a lot more.
Minecraft also had 10 years (!) to build up their pets system. I guess we will have something much nicer before the next 10 years in Valheim.
They've improved and streamlined it more since this video was made. They expanded the items that work for taming too.

good video! i take time to find a good spot in the Black forest near the best "entrance" to the mountain area. Dig a pit structure and lure wolves down. once i get 2, I just start breeding in the pen and once i have some i take a pack to my main base and breed more there, leaving the OG breeding pair, or trio, which is even better
I usually make some small outpost or base with portal at the pen/breeder. Its good for many things!

Don’t do anything he said go to edge of mountains and dig a hole with a pick deep enough the wolf can’t walk out but you can jump out then get a wolf to chase you in throw it the meat and sneak away until the exclamation point goes away then sit by the whole for 3 days wolf tamed the easy way then just dig him out and fill in the hole

I'm really loving this game, I literally feel like its a combination of all my favourite games in one, kinda sucks that the optimization isn't that great (granted its early access) and I play at ~20 FPS on the lowest settings.
Oof. I've not had any issues with that, 1440 max settings I get around 70 to 80. Try turning the shadow quality down, that was dragging a buddies pc down

For me i always make noise like cutting three near the snow area at night the wolf will come just like other
nice tutorial, learned something I did not know. Though the wolfs will fallow you once they are tame and you pet them once, if you pet the same wolf again they will stay and do their own thing, I have one on my mountain home and he just romes around the area while I am building and alerts me if anything gets close. when I am away from that place I will put him in an enclosed area until I get back. Nice thing after the update the wolfes when you feed them will no longer howl.

Wolves happens to be hardcoded in to disappear once any player starts a recording program :D
This video needs to be 1 minute long. Trap the wolf and feed it. It will say TAMED after you tame it. That is all you need to know.

I love how I can always count on you for informative videos on new games I’m interested in. We seem to have very similar tastes in video games.
I hope that you are reading the criticism and comments your viewers leave so that way you have an understanding how and what your viewers want. Ultimately brother it’s up to you how you do things but a big thing to take is “less is MORE”.
You can also tame those Lak or Lok or what ever in the plains. They are huge and aggressive and will basically one-shot you in troll armor. They feed on Barley.
Also if you can't find a wolf or some creature for a video, usually chopping a tree works unfortunately well.
They eat Cloudberries also, the Lok
i have an area that all i do is mine the copper then the wolf comes to the sound and kills me... so maybe make noise by the edge and the wolf will find you...its happened to me a lot and im not trying to attract him..lol

I haven’t tamed the wolves yet but I’m pretty sure that when it says “wolf follows” “wolf stays” when you pet it that it’s a toggle on off thing...so if you want to see the wolf following you maybe leave the cage with it...

Hostile creatures don't spawn near player built structures. They probably didn't show up because you built all the fires.

My method is dig a deep hole run them to the hole then push them in. they cant attack the dirt to break free.

easy way instead of the jump-out method is to just build an unsupported platform above a two-deep pit and just break it under the wolf. drop-in, cant climb out, but there are no breakable walls.

the fire spamming idea is brilliant, those frost resist pots are a bit expensive for my tastes
I noticed that when you are in an area that wolves may be i.e. edge of the snowy biome just start chopping trees or mining. Idk if anyone else noticed but it seems the dwarves don't like it when you "hurt" the land and the wolves are no exception if I mine or chop wood they come to get me.... it kind of sux if they hit you and you don't get a shield out tho lol. good luck!

U can also use bonfire to keep yourself warm in the snow, the blizzard won't put out the fire.

This was helpful but quite repetitive and mediocre, and you completely skipped through the follow mechanic. 15 minute video about capturing and taming wolves that doesn't actually show the wolves being captured and tamed. Makes you seem lazy, even though you explained the theory very well.
You can also tame lox, but they need way to much space.
Just don't let the tame wolves get out or they'll kill everything on the island and multiply until there is nothing left.

There's probably a limit on the number of wolves in the area and the tame wolves are keeping the spawn point quiescent.
