Country music can definitely be earnest and even subversive-- especially with contemporary artists like Kacey Musgraves, Orville Peck, Le Ren, Babeo Baggins and others-- but so-called "stadium country music," which is sadly the most popular in the genre-- are exactly what Bo showcases here: shallow, cynical cash grabs exploiting an audience who sadly does not know better.

Your comment is a year old, but I can't help but to leave this anyway.... Your graduating class had 21 kids!?!... Yeah, that's the absolute most that any grade I was ever in came close to having. My school was Pre.- 12th and was extremely rough academically because of the student to teacher ratio. This school was one of the best in the country in school averaging for government testing. Which isn't as big of a deal asn9t sounds when you consider the fact that at one point if they lost a single student the school population would drop under one hundred students then they would be shut down. 🤭 Thats what happens when you give children 8 classes every day, and no free periods. You didn't graduate unless you had at least a 3.5 GPA and no less than three extracurricular activities. One centered on what I call "Hillbilly Business" which was either either FBLA or FFA. (Welcome to the country)... Then of course an academic one such as Debate, Mathletes, 3rd language (secondary language was already mandatory) and the other was a Sport. Life was not fun there. Everyone was absolutely horrible. So yeah... People dropped out or failed out left and right. You didn't even graduate with honors unless you were only 16-17 years old, and taking a Running Start program at the university. Sufficient to say that yeah, I definitely get it. My graduating class had a total of 5 people in it. 🙄

Spot on reaction like usual! It's sad that's what become of a lot of music lately (not just country anymore) but since it gives these labels more money than they know what to do with, it's not likely going to change. And even sadder, most of these artists didn't start that way, they had their own thing that worked at the start but quickly went downhill, so to stay in the spotlight, they gave in and went the cookie cutter route. Which works, unfortunately. On a side note though, I'm not sure if anyone else has this issue with the reactions lately. I think at the time, the big one was carpool karaoke. If that wasnt what he was talking about they were very very guilty of what he talked about (and honestly still are)
Kudos to mans for not knowing Jimmy Fallon from the Tonight Show having a segment where they literally Lip Sync. Im not completely aware, but it also spawned a show hosted by LL Cool J, literally called Lip Sync Battle. Don't recall if this was a thing before/during/after Bo Burnham's Make Happy special.
There's two things he could be referring to. Jimmy Fallon started it, having a section where he'd lip sync battle with guests (Emma Stone or Melissa McCarthy were my favorites) Then John Krasinski took the idea and had a whole show about it (Tom Holland/Zendaya is for sure the best)
I also live in a small town, across the street from a farm. Just over 100 people in my graduating class and so many people listening to this. So many of them were also wealthy and would never be caught on a farm, just trying to be small-town cool 😎
@@ChrisReactsToThings I kind of forgot about the hiatus between Inside and Make Happy so it might be something more like a week and 3 days which seems pretty good. 🤔 You might get exponential growth soon. 😉
“I write songs for the people who do jobs in the towns that i’d never move to” is the perfect thesis for the song. From age 10 i grew up in a farmhouse outside of a midsize town in central illinois, so I know exactly what you’re talking about 😂 My city was big enough to have a more diverse population and culture, so while country music is pervasive, rap and pop was by far the most popular genre, but there was a presence for basically every genre, so i never felt *too* out of place. But this kinda sums up my general dislike of bro-country music.

If you’re in the mood, check out Raye doing Oscar Winning Tears at the Royal Albert Hall, her medley at the Brit awards, It’s a Man’s World at the Montreux Jazz Festival and her epic music video Genesis. Also any of Faouzia’s live or “stripped” performances. Anyway, hope you’re well

also small midwest, we only had about 15 of the 120 that were all about this music. Most people are fine but hicks are the extreme impersonators of the country boy lifestyle
While I absolutely love Bo's Country Song, in reality I don't really think we should be critical of today's country music stars because they're singing about subjects that they themselves don't do. Because they've been doing that forever. How many of our older classic country singers sang about bull riding or truck driving, who never actually did any of that? How many rappers sing about doing gangster shit who've never actually done any of that shit? (Yes, Im aware that many do actually do the gangster stuff. And their dumb asses usually end up in prison) The point of their music is for it to be relatable to other people out there. Not that the music singer themselves have to necessarily relate to it as well. If a singer sings about something profound such as child abuse, does it matter that they themselves have never been abused as a child, or otherwise been involved in something like that? No. Don't get me wrong, it probably benefits the singer if they do actually have those experiences, such as abuse or working on a ranch or being on the rodeo circuit. But that doesn't have to be the case. And it usually isn't.
There is actually a show in which 2 celebrities battle for who does the best lip sync impression to a popular song. That’s it. That’s the entirety of the show. And he’s right it’s either a guy singing a woman’s song and usually dressed like that female artist or a white actress doing a hip hop song. SMH 🤦♀️
In fairness, there are tons of great country songs and many great country artists but he skewers the type of performers he is talking about. Artists like Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Kathy Mattea, Mary Chapin Carpenter, etc. are outstanding song writers. Check out songs like Clear Blue Morning, 9 to 5, He's Alive, Lonesome Standard Time, Clown in Your Rodeo, This Kiss, I Take My Chances, etc.

It's funny you bring it up -- I'm in Nebraska
I think we're fairly close in age, but my graduating class in elementary school was 8. That was the whole grade.
A fellow Husker 🌽🤠
Bro I'm from outside of Nashville in a small ass town. I love this song so much lol
I'd have liked to see those previous bits but sure I enjoyed this video as always!
Maybe on a future live stream!
I think at the time, the big one was carpool karaoke. If that wasnt what he was talking about they were very very guilty of what he talked about (and honestly still are)
The country song really is one of my favorite bo songs ever probably lmao
Your reaction was so geniune. Appreciate it. 💕
the end song to make happy after kanye rant is banger as hell
“Mother fuckers got moving candles…”
Awesome video as always. Can't believe you left out Rob's mom though lol. Jk, but that part always makes me laugh
I loved his character Chip Mccap on Parks and Rec 😆
Needed this reaction. 😂
I also live in a small town, across the street from a farm. Just over 100 people in my graduating class and so many people listening to this. So many of them were also wealthy and would never be caught on a farm, just trying to be small-town cool 😎
"fuck your ears I'm panderin" classic.
Congrats on 3k😁🥳
🙏
Another week, another 1000 new subscribers!
Man, has it only been a week?
@@ChrisReactsToThings I kind of forgot about the hiatus between Inside and Make Happy so it might be something more like a week and 3 days which seems pretty good. 🤔 You might get exponential growth soon. 😉
@@ChrisReactsToThings are you gonna do a live soon?🥺
The big thing he missed from the country song is how the girls are always 17. Way creepy
Nobody:
Chris: "69 people... nice"
small Midwest town is where its at
Hey man, I miss your reactions. So much good music has come out lately. Anyway, hope you’re well
Chris you can TH-cam Celebrity Lip Synch battles. Actually some are so good. But I get what he means. I think seeing Spider man dancing & Singing Umbrella is too fun!
did you ever react to the streamer bit of inside?
Not yet but I plan on it
"i had sex with "ROB'S" mom" lmfao...sooo funny!!
also small midwest, we only had about 15 of the 120 that were all about this music. Most people are fine but hicks are the extreme impersonators of the country boy lifestyle
You said 69 people like that was a small class... my class was 32, and it was the 2nd largest in my school's history ever. 69 seems massive to me
🎶"Chris was born in a small town..."
have you ever read chuck klosterman? i feel like you would connect
Perfect reaction

in mocking country music, bo writes the best country song
I love Listening to you Bro
I think you are seriously underestimating the Masked Singer. But he was referencing Lipsync Battle.
We said nice at the same time after 69. Feels important
If you're referring to the "EAD" part... a few people on YT have reacted, so might've been ok
i seriously couldnt think of what part hes talking about. you saying "EAD part" doesnt clue me in either.
@@saphcal Discussion between him and girl... and not the peanut butter one
@@FiveAcross Oh....oh right that one.
Because they are rich and famous its "I don't like dirt". Meaning obviously they aren't true country folk. I assume.
“69, nice”!😂
There is actually a show in which 2 celebrities battle for who does the best lip sync impression to a popular song. That’s it. That’s the entirety of the show. And he’s right it’s either a guy singing a woman’s song and usually dressed like that female artist or a white actress doing a hip hop song. SMH 🤦♀️
Genius.
The uh, sing-a-long bit? Yeah, TH-cam might not take too kindly to that one...
4:08 nice
Edit: shit.
Any chance of seeing Trevor Moore songs coming Up? Love all the Bo, just want to share the love to help with the loss.
