A/C from Defrost Only... Cheap fix for your Ford! (Hopefully) | 2015 Taurus SHO

  • This is just a temporary fix, I'll eventually show replacement. Needed A/C today and only got it from the defrost vents. Did some reading on fixes and found a (possibly temporary) solution. Hope this helps someone out there!

    I gotta give you credit man I didn't think anything would happen but sure enough after a few taps it did. It's probably not a permanent solution but keeps me from dropping hundreds on a repair for now. Appreciate you sharing.

    It worked for me(2015 taurus). Thank you very much for sharing this information. Took about 15 moderate taps with a large plastic fuse puller(electrician), but it worked...thanks again...

    Didn't think it would work but I tried it. And to my surprise it changed from defrost to main vents. Thank you.

    This freaken worked! I cannot believe all I could find was to tear apart the entire dash before trying, "Knock 5 times, aaaand the door will open." (Yes, mine started working on the fifth tap as well.) Great job, brother!

      Thanks for the comment and I'm glad it worked for you! Tearing apart the dash is definitely the permanent solution, but I really didn't have the time or money to do that when mine was acting up, so I was happy to pass this little "fix" along to other people in hopes it would save them some time and money, atleast for a while. Appreciate you stopping by!

    Well, thank you and you have a LIKE and new SUB. Listen, if you get water on your passenger floor then driver floor, it's coming from the water drains in the cowl under the hood. You need to remove wipers, then BOTH plastic across and look for these little FORD ONLY water drains that fill with leaves get blocked and leak back into car. Then you cabin filter will be shot so change it and hope the A/C works. Thought I would share like U did!

    Glad it's working man, but that's a blend door actuator. I just took that exact component off of my car, let it hang on the cable and started pushing buttons... If I changed the register selection (ie face to floor, floor to defrost) it was motionless. But when I changed the driver side temp it spun like crazy. The mode door actuator I bought didn't match the part I took off at all. Like I said, I'm glad your hvac started working again, but my (limited) understanding of that system says that nothing should have happened when you tapped on that box. (Disclaimer, I'm still fighting the exact same problem you described at the beginning of your video.)

      I totally understand it's not an end all fix, it worked for me so I figured it was something to try instead of just hanging parts on a problem. Seems to be a fairly common problem and I think replacement is probably needed. Hope you can get yours sorted out

    I'm having the same issue. I took it into the mechanics and he replaced the actuator and it worked for 1 minute or 2 and then stopped. He changed the middle one. I have no idea what to do now. I hope this works for me lol. My main issue is my engine light came on and it was the cam shift positioning sensor I had it changed with a Ford positioning sensor and the light came back on. Still says cam sharft positioning sensor. I tool it to ford amd they came at me woth a 9k bill saying it was a dozen issues but when I run the code the only code that pops up is the positioning sensor. I got a couple 2md opinions, one from a retired man who ran one of ford's bays for 15 years. He said that what Ford is saying needs to be fixed isn't the issue because if everything they are saying was wrong with my SHO the car wouldn't perform like it does. You would feel it. My car take off on a dime amd runs perfectly. I honestly don't know what to do. My inspection is due in March. If I don't figure it out by then I'm gonna have to get rid of my SHO and I really don't want to. I feel it's a wiring issue but have no idea who to bring it to. If you can't tell I have no idea about cars. Has anyone gone through this or have any ideas what it could be? Please anyone? I could really use some help.

      FYI, there are 4 total. One passenger, one driver footwell, one driver halfway up and one in the dash (which is next to impossible to reach without taking dash apart). I believe that one is different. That is the one on mine that died. The quoted $240 to fix with me buying the part and they said it was terrible to replace, as well. I found a thread somewhere that gave the exact part for each location. I will look for it.

    Modern cars do not use vacuum to control blend doors, They are electric actuators.

    dude you should be sending me some money for watching you tap on an actuator. it took 5 minutes to get to the actual problem. im done now. the mechanics go to....... just hit it with something.....

  • @tmmt4774
    @tmmt4774 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Completely incorrect. The actuator you pointed to is the dual zone/driver side temperature blend door actuator. The MODE door actuator is located much higher up and nearly impossible to get to.

    • @RichmansGarage
      @RichmansGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Youre probably right, I just found a solution that worked for the time being and wanted to share. This was never meant to fix the whole issue, just get you by until you could get it fixed. Thanks for the info though, its always nice to get a better understanding of this stuff.

    • @tmmt4774
      @tmmt4774 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not the correct actuator so if it “worked for the time being” then you had a intermittent inoperative actuator, replacing this will not fix anything except the driver side temperature control. This is the actuator that blends the driver side dual temp.

      I don't care what you call any of the thousands of electronic plastic components and dealers/manuals replace stuff ALL THE TIME based on diagnosis and it don't fix the problem. This freaken worked on mine too. How about this idea... ALL these components work with each other and are operated by a computer. These vehicles have dual zone climate, so the blend door and mode door work together... maybe any fault sends system into safety mode (defaulting to defrost for visibility rather than comfort)? All I know is, this has worked for far too many of us for there not to be a sensible rationale.
      Great job, brother. "Fixed my problem in 30 seconds (5th tap btw... conspiracy, hmmm? lol)
