    Now if I can only figure out how to draft elbow-3/4 sleeves for this pattern. As an older, much older woman I need sleeves. Just for the future, please remember some of us are no longer young with beautiful smooth firm skin like yours. You are so adorable. Thanks for the neat pattern and sharing the drafting how to.

      She does show how to add sleeves to a similar pattern in her "pineapple tee-shirt" tutorial. In it, she mentions you can change it from short to long length merely by taking that longer measurement and extending the pattern. Also remember to measure around your arm at both the widest part of the bicep as well as the part where you want your cuff, for a sleeve that tapers correctly.

    It definitely took longer than 15 minutes, in fairness I had a coffee break and a mad moment when I had to go root in the garage because I was sure I’d forgotten to put a tent in the car, lol. But it’s done and I’m wearing it. Now, I’m going camping. Toodleoo

    I love the way you mention various fabric choices in the beginning, and showed examples of how it might affect the overall look! It's amazing how different one pattern can look when sewn of a different fabric. Even just the color/pattern can affect the look, but different weight/drape changes everything!

    This is such a lovely pattern, truly my kind of styling and I can see myself wearing this with a simple midi skirt. I am so enjoying your channel! Sadly, I currently have no sewing machine. I was so overwhelmed by my machine that I sold it years ago along with all the accompanying notions, and here you have arrived making it all look so easy!! Thank you for that! :) Now I am off to look around for a machine......

    • @Marialla.
      @Marialla. 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A machine is a wonderful thing to have, but until you get one may I suggest that this would be a fantastic, easy and fast candidate for hand sewing? With only two side seams to sew, plus finishing, I think any new hand sewer could probably create this top in a matter of a couple hours (besides the normal drafting/cutting time). I am a self-taught hand sewist, and I really love it. You can sew while listening to music, or even take a project in a gallon ziploc bag with you to the park. All you need is a needle and thread, a thimble and some small scissors, and maybe a candle to pull your thread across to condition it so it doesn't tangle. I guarantee you will pick it up quickly if you try. Thousands of years of our ancestors sewing everything they wore by hand can't have all been for nothing!

    • @happyone444able
      @happyone444able 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Marialla THANK YOU so much for your inspiration! I’m just currently working on a small project, sewing reusable muslin tea bags in my attempt to get better at uniform hand stitching (and sadly just stitching straight!!🤦‍♀️). With every little bag I feel I improve. I am looking forward to making this shirt and I will hand sew it! Thanks again for taking the time to reply!! I hope you have a lovely week!!😊

    • @Marialla.
      @Marialla. 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@happyone444able I hope to hear from you how it's going when you do sew this shirt! I'm sure it will look wonderful! I started just like you, making small household things. I did a lot of pillowcases out of bed sheets, for my whole family. It was a good way to get the feel of hand sewing. And none of the seams I sewed have ever yet come undone, after ten years or more! Hand sewing is vastly underrated. And a project like this shirt is a good one because it is so loose and gathered, it will totally hide any irregularities in your stitches. I'm sure if you can make a tea bag, you have what it takes to sew this shirt!
      Are you familiar with all the popular hand-sewists on TH-cam lately? They are a charming bunch of people, mostly inspired by historical costumes. I like to watch chatty hand sewing videos when I sew, to have a "buddy" with me doing similar work. I think it may be the new thing, similar to people who take up knitting as a hobby.

    • @happyone444able
      @happyone444able 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marialla I will let you know how it goes! I was only recently led to some of the other lovely ladies, like Bernadette Banner and the like, and I so enjoy listening to them. I do agree that its nice to keep things simple. I have a tendency to overwhelm myself, like I’m going all in and getting everything called necessary and then at the time had no quality teachers. Now we have YT and my lord it is such a blessing here. I call it my TH-cam University!!

    • @Marialla.
      @Marialla. 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@happyone444able LOL YTU! I agree. When I learned there were no teachers around, and I just figured stuff out as I went. And the beauty of that is it tells you that you CAN figure stuff out as you go. It's not so obscure and arcane that only an ancient sorceress could do it. Ordinary people did this every day, for every cloth item they owned, so I find that reassuring and inspirational that it should be within anyone's grasp. Having good teachers today who can give you a leg up is very nice, though, so it won't take us all so long to get there.

    This is so good. I watched it multiple times, took notes, drew pictures, made tiny paper patterns. I hope I can remember the steps. I was wondering, approximately how much fabric does this take? I know it depends on our own size, but a general guess perhaps? I think I can make this with a little less than a yard (1 meter) of fabric. Is this about right? I would refold the selvages to the center --making 2 folded edges and cut each on a fold.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sheryl, hello there! You can do it! :) To answer your question - for me it was less than 1yd, but he's, you are right, does not require a lot of fabric and I folded my fabric just like you described in the comment!

      Try making this gathered neckline adjustment to her raglan pattern shirt, for longer sleeves.

    Love the fabric. Where did you find it?

      I got it at Jo-Ann's but linen is widely accessible elsewhere too, and it is so "classic" in the print and colors it comes, I sure you can fin something similar to this :)

    Really lovely, I think I could repurpose old shirts to make some of these. Is there an alternative to the little bend at the base of the tear-drop? I've had that on some ready-to-wear and it digs in and irritates me. I then unpicked it but couldn't make it any better (worse in fact).

    A bit confused about how the bias tape is seen into the sleeve? And do you have a detailed video of how to make the bias tape. You make everything look so easy

      @deborahgiles8214 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bias tape is treated like a bias facing around the sleeve with one of the folds of the tape unfolded to sew to the edge of sleeve opening, right sides together. The other folded edge is folded around to the inside of the blouse, pressed, and sewn down along the edge of the fold. It's hard to describe with only words--hope that makes sense.

    Love this. Thank you! BTW… YT won’t let me click the Bell for notifications- keeps giving me an Error Msg. 😢 Can you help? Thanks

    Love this top! I'm going to try it tomorrow. 🌺 I do have a silly question. How do I cut out the back pattern when it's marked on the same paper as the front pattern? The front is easy, just trace, but back?

      Ahh- didn't finish the video before I asked the question! And you answered it. LoL.

      For my first attempts I always like to start using secondhand bed sheets. They have a decent drape for this pattern, and you can get a feel for it. For a final garment you might try a medium weight linen, or any softly draping cotton. Rayon might also be nice, but would definitely look more upscale than peasanty.
