  • Farm Find 1966 Ford F250 $2500 Budget Build to get this back on the road safely. I want to use this truck as it was meant to be used. Hauling, towing and showing off a little. I've set my budget at $2500, follow along as I get this road worthy again and try to stay under budget. How far can I get with $2500? What should be my priorities for repairs, new parts instead of used, etc? What would you replace first?

    Nothing better than a good cleaning and inspection to see what's what

      I was both surprised and scared by what I saw during the inspection! Lots of work to get this back to pretty! I’m gonna focus on safe and reliable first. Baby steps. 🙌🏼

    Poppy’s Patina is what I put on my 79 to protect the patina and it worked great wipe on clear

      I’m working on a deal with them now. Trying to get them to sponsor#wallacethe66. For Midnight Maroon we will eventually get it to paint. But that’s a ways off. Body work is the most time consuming part of a project.

    In my truck I found dirt , rust, and an old pocket knife . Once clean and fixed up a little its a fun truck to drive , have fun tinkering.

      I hate that it’s now winter and it’s too cold for a pansy like me to work on this project. 🥶 Spending my time in the garage working on #midnightmaroon getting the engine rebuilt and put back together. Will do some body panel work too. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. 🙌🏼

      @@troysgarage Yeah no problem. I can relate to the whole project. The it being on a budget, nothing being easy, and it just being a work truck, just as it was meant to be 56 years ago. Your budget of 2500 shouldn't be that hard as of currently my tally is about 2105 give or take. With this I was able to make it drive, stop, safe and reliable enough for a college kid like my self to operate comfortably, now all other costs are for fun and if something else breaks. As for Midnightmaroon, I haven't seen any of those episodes yet, but with an engine rebuild under way that should be fun. The whole project of tearing it down and putting it back together again is fun yet what makes it is when you hear it fire up for the first time in months and see your time effort and money finally pay off.
      Have fun wrenching and looking forward to some more videos , Happy new year to you and your family !!

    The little white buttons are like gold, in high school I used to visit junk yards just to find them. My 64 had a plain metal dash no vinyl cover. I replaced all the rubber parts on my tank and it still always smelled like fuel, I think moving the tank would be worth it.

    • @troysgarage

      Eventually moving it is the plan. But for budget reasons I gotta just get thing drivable. What’s the secret to keeping the buttons from falling out again? Super glue? 🤷🏼‍♂️

    I learned something new when I pulled the seat out of my 79 F250 Camper Special..that from 1966-1996 have the same seat frame template FYI. So I installed the 1996 seat into my 79’ and voila!

      Ok wow! That’s awesome to know! This bench frame is pretty hammered and rusty. This opens up option. Thanks man! 🙌🏼

    You have a fuel selector on the floor. If the secondary tank can be saved, and has enough capacity, just take out the in cab tank, plumb the secondary without a transfer selector, good to go!

    • @troysgarage
      @troysgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Might be a quick and cheaper solution than buying a new rear between the frame fuel cell. At least to get it on the road. 👍🏼

      I switched vendors and haven’t uploaded the image to create the listing on the site. I’ll get that done soon. Also working on some new Midnight Maroon designs too.

    When I rebuilt my 66, I removed the behind the seat fuel tank for safety reasons and fumes. Get a between the rails tank, they're not to expensive.

    • @troysgarage
      @troysgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s the eventual plan for sure. To fit the budget build I’ll likely keep it behind the seat for a while. Are you “done” with your build? I’d love to see pics. What motor does it have?
