    Completely agree about the various small pockets here and there in a backpack. You're not crazy or we're both crazy.

    I found the lack of pockets, use small packets - genius!!

    Regarding the master packing list, I cannot agree more!
    I have one in the reminder app on my iPhone.
    Whenever I go on a trip I save a copy, rename it to that specific trip and add or subtract items as needed.
    I always have a perfect list and almost never forget anything because, like you, my list has evolved over time. I love it! One of the reasons I keep it in my reminder app instead of my notes app is that you can tap an item to check it off of the list and all you have to do when you’re returning is uncheck them to make sure you don’t forget anything when you pack again.
    I also have tabs to separate items by type. So for example, I have a tab for toiletries and a tab for clothes etc. Also have tabs with lists for things like my beach bag, items I would need specifically for a cruise, or family beach trip and I have tabs for winter clothes and summer clothes as well.
    It sounds super extra, but I promise it really isn’t. and in the long run you are going to save so much time and energy by doing this.

      It may sound extra to some, but definitely not to me! I keep my list in Notion for the same reasons you use Reminders; the interactive check boxes, the ability to tab items by by category, and it makes the list super easy to duplicate. It's been a game changer for sure!

    Wow…I have three pair of undies that live in my luggage. Come home, do laundry, toss back in once dry. Wear, clean, drying.
    And I do that backpacking, but the drying ones are hooked to a strap! I have gone to microfiber undies for travel while using cotton at home.
    Sofia are the same idea, but wool allows rewearing, scent wise.

    I spent 40+ years travelling for my job. Aside from a few items my list stayed the same, but the first time I packed without it I left a few things I needed.

    For feet, try a pair of gel ball of foot cushions. But attach the sticky side to you feet, under your socks, instead of the shoes. Keeps your feet feeling more comfortable and can be washed clean every night.

    Can you make a video of how your pick clothes for your capsule travel wardrobe?

    • @leighkaterina
      @leighkaterina  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes! My upcoming video shows my unfiltered process for selecting items for my travel capsule as I pack for a trip. But I didn't even think to make a video dedicated to the travel capsule process in detail. Thank you for the idea, I'll get right on it! Thanks for watching!

    I have a very detailed list for each trip as I am a cruiser - so I adapt it depending on area/season/weather and what excursions I will be doing - this it to make sure i have what I need and don't over pack - while some things stay the same (usually same 'flight clothes' and formal night clothes) otherw change depending on location and activity!

    I totally understand why you would want to bring a salad spinner, but that is not a good use of space in your luggage. May I recommend the large, clean, unused hotel towels? I just lay my clothing on the towel then roll it all up like a jellyroll. Gently squeeze out the excess water then hang both the clothing and towel out to dry in the restroom.

      As someone who has done this since the last century, I’m co-signing.
      I’m also signing on to drybag washing. Plus it holds the stinky you don’t wash on the way to the next place.

    Fantastic rundown. We have very similar philosophies when it comes to packing. I'm packing for a 3 month 2 week trip and am bringing black athletic trainers (and will fly in these), Keen water shoes (which can also double as walking shoes), black EVA Birkenstock (these are my rubbah slippahs - and are supportive enough to also wear walking!), tan chunky sandals (which is a dressy option I can also walk in!), and my bonus shoe is TBD but thinking of a flat cute sandal or a white canvas slip on trainers. Neither are good for long walks... leaning toward the canvas because it's nice to have another close toed option.
    PS I might consider a quick dry microfibre towel to extract water from laundry over a salad spinner but I hope you get to test it out!!

    • @leighkaterina
      @leighkaterina  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Haha, I actually do travel with a microfiber towel as well. And update -- lo and behold, the salad spinner does not fit in my carry-on, so I guess it's just going to have to be satisfied spinning salads at home 😆. Thanks for watching! 🥰

    New subscriber here! Your video makes absolute sense to me and, unlike many of your peers, you obviously have thought things through carefully. As it happens, I have a standing list and always made it a habit to cross-pack with my travel companion(s) in case one checked bag goes missing. Trying to replace my plus-sized wardrobe isn't easy when you are far away from home. I also pack a cube in my personal item containing a change of undies, bra, a pair of nylon track pants and a t-shirt in case I get a coffee spilled on me (yes, it has happened) or we get stuck somewhere for a long period of time without bags and I want to freshen up. I have another cube in my carry on too which contains pants, shorts, tank, t-shirt or top and undies. I bring fewer shoes than you but my clothes are much bigger than yours so I guess it works out even. I was hoping you would note that rechargeable batteries or devices which do not have a removeable battery need to come out of your gate-checked carry on along with any medications. Thank you so much for a well thought out video. Let's hope your viewers agree with us and implement your ideas.

      Hi there! I just love meeting like-minded individuals. I was inspired to make this video because I love watching packing videos myself, yet so many seem to give some pretty questionable advice, haha. Not to say that I think of everything, as you're right, I forgot to mention that batteries and meds also need to be removed from your gate-checked carry-on. I'll be sure to note that in my upcoming video. Thanks so much for being here!

    Packing lists… I have my packing lists saved from every trip over the past decade, maybe longer. When I start packing for my next trip, I pull up the previous one (of a similar type trip) and edit it as needed, then save it under the new trip name. Easier than starting from scratch, and it’s funny to look back at some of those earlier lists. 😁

    It's OK to have a higher-pitched voice and use it. When you lower your vocal register way down like you often do, it clearly sounds uncomfortable, and the listener is also uncomfortable. Plus you're damaging your vocal cords.
