      Free plans for a plywood structure telescope are avaliable from many sources. They seem to work fine. Optics can also be homemade or bought. Look it up. RF Royce Optical, this guy makes amazing primary mirrors and has designs for equatorial mount optical tube assemblys.

    The main objective of any project is to get an end result. 99.99 % of the You tube videos do one thing. Just unpack packed things and assemble it. Assembling anything can be an easy because it is in the manual, I do not know why people or so interested in Assembling things and with brain crushing useless background music.
    We need result. We need images taken using the telescope. People are bla bla bla bla bla. We need result. Take the case of Music system unboxing. What is the use of seeing a man unboxing these things without hearing the music. These types of videos are 1000000% useless to ordinary people

  • @DawgcityClev

    So far it sounds good that they came up with a way for others to build it. But I also see a ton of scattered light with this model. Not to mention he's using a freaking headlamp. I'd like to have seen some images too. It does us no good just seeing the model, let's see it in action. Also how large is the primary? Focal length? Arrgghhh what started off so good was just a frustrating few minutes.

    You do realize the more the masses come to any form of ability to gain mass logic free from a controlled setting the more likely unforseen yet powerful force(s) will undo all parameters surrounding such knowledge. Knowledge prevents "magic". "magic" is what fuels many unbecoming atrocities.

  • @ParaglidingManiac
    @ParaglidingManiac 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Didn't show what it's capable of. At the time they were filming this, there were 3 planets visible (Venus, Jupiter and Saturn).
    You can print out a body of a telescope, but you need to buy the mirror for it. Plus electronics and gadgets to control it with. For 200 pounds you can buy a fully functional reflector telescope, but bigger and fully functional.
    The idea of 3D printing it nice though, I saw what he wanted to say.

    Hmmm...colour me sceptic, but this looks like another "3D printing is fashionable and can save the world" article. I'd love to see how they print the mirror! Plus it looks like the mirror diameter is about 80-100mm, which hardly qualifies as "powerful". Looking at their website the talk about "laser cut acrylic"...not exactly what most people "can build at home". I smell clickbait.

    A telescope is a simple device that doesn't require electricity, nowadays you're supposed to think you need a 3d printer, a red dot finder that takes lithium batteries, and a lot of camera equipment if you want to look at the stars. Nonsense! This unnecessarily robotic scope is only cheap if you've got a 3d printer. Check out all the Indian youtubers showing you how to make really good scopes out of junk, much more inspirational than this thing!

    Humm, almost 2 years gone by now and still only crappy window$ phone app, (according to their web page), and you have to give them your info to see these so called "open source" plans. Parts are probably done in Solid Works as well, meaning you have to buy a $5000 CAD program to use the "open source" files, (seen it way to many times before with crap like this)..... pffffft... It's these so called projects that give open source a bad name. If it were really "open source", the files would be on github, in IGES/STEP/STL format and include the source code for the app and Arduino. Oh, and a 3.5" Newtonian = "powerful"? And where the hell does one find a 3.5" (89 mm) primary mirror? Have the glass custom cut and grind it your self? Oh, I know, you 3D print the mirror too, right?

    "We were interested in making a telescope that anyone could... build themselves. So, obviously we wanted to make it 3-D printable." Because everyone has access to a 3-D printer. "The whole thing can be built for about 200 pounds." Plus another 200 pounds for the printer, not to mention the cost of a smart phone. I think you need to rethink some of your first-world, middle-class assumptions.
