Thank you for this explanation, Emilie. I thought it was literally for using at night, and had no idea it could be used for macro. Consequently it remained unused. Will use it now!
I just discovered Night LV last week while photographing the comet. Had no idea it could be used with macro photography. I am a fairly new OM photographer, switched from Canon, and learning so much from your videos. Thank you Emilie!
Hi Crystal. Thank you so much for your comment. I am so glad my videos are helpful. Don't hesitate if you have questions or want to see a video on a specific topic. And welcome to the OM SYSTEM family!
We use the Night LV for macro, and it's an excellent option that really helps to see the subject we’re capturing clearly. And Emilie, your new website? Wow! It’s absolutely stunning; we’re completely blown away! And those workshops you’re offering-can’t wait to see all the amazing things you’ll share. Huge congrats; this is next-level! yeahhhh
Thank you for this video, it has answered the problem I was having. The only thing is you did not explain or show how to find Night LV in the menu’s, only pointing to another video showing how to set up to button. This would have been very helpful. Love your videos and have learnt a lot from you, many thanks. Would have loved to be able to come on your workshop but live in Lincoln UK
Thank you Jill. I tried to keep this video short but the other video has plenty of info on how to set up your Night LV button. Just look at my C3 custom setting. Sorry you can't make it to our workshops in the UK. I am doing an online 4-month coaching program that might interest you. If I have enough interest, I might launch a Europ one with times that work best for people in Europe.
Yes The Night Vision is great for shooting with a flash. I have allocated Night Vision to the +/- Exposure button on the top of my OM-1. Never use the exposure button as such since shoot 99% manual WYSIWYG. My Godox V860 also has a separate LED light which can be switched on and off. All good fun
Quick? On my OM-5 would "Night LV" still be "Live Boost"? I didn't know up to know what this was and how to use it. IF this setting is what you just explained then I look forward to trying this out! Thanks, very informative!
Yes I think it's LV boost or Live Boost. I have it in my e-m10 mk I tt too. You lose WYSIWYG, at least in my camera, but you're able to see basically in pitch darkness...
Thank you. Rather then putting LV on a button, I tend to put such settings into a custom memory slot on the mode dial as that way it saves all the settings you might want for that job e.g. M-manual, metering mode, flash, etc. If the flash is fully compatible with the camera, as the supplied mini-flashes are but not all third-party, then the camera should accept that on the TTLA and not complain about the low exposure. But we cannot see the subject hence the LVB. Some third-party TTL nicely but not TTLA (through the lens auto i.e. controlled by the camera alone), and so we get the camera not correcting exposure for the flash when it's fitted. The entire generation - E-PL7/E-PL8, E-M10ii, E-M5ii, E-M1ii, and PEN-F were technologically more advanced than the previous models, and all have Live View Boost. Using LVB with the E-PL7, the preview can look very different to the result; that discrepancy seems to have been ironed out with the E-M5ii and PEN-F. The E-PL7 has the MAL-1 macro lamp accessory for the AP-2 which is kinda cute, but daft because it fills the hot shoe so you cannot add a pukka flash unit.
I do use Night LV for macro on my OM-1 but I have noticed it is draining the battery faster then usual and it warms up the back of the camera behind the LCD screen (but not enough to make the camera stop making images). The disappointment with the OM-1 Night LV is that the previous version from Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II and III (I have owned the Mk. III) had 2 different modes where one had smoother Live View (normal 60 FPS) and one with laggier Live View (less then 30 FPS) and it was a lot easier and better to have the 60 FPS mode ... THE OM-1 does not have the smoother Live View and it can get so bad that I can't even compose an image unless I use additional light on the subject (like the LED lamp on my Oly FL-700 WR, which turns itself off after making just one image with is INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING AND ANNOYING, or the new acquisition of a LED ring set on a 62mm filter powered by USB).
Dude. She doesn't design or build the cameras. She just uses them. Send your comments to her boss. Your comment is like yelling at the Ford salesman because the CEO decided not to make anymore V8s. SMH.

Finally someone tells about this flashing green light??? Thanks

Sounds very useful Emilie. Thanks
It is!
good point and it's one of the key advantages of a mirrorles systems.... I use it already from my first olympus the EPL-2 .... from long ago ;-)

I use night boost or whatever it's called for macro on a EM-1 MkIIIwith flash in full manual mode.
I switch to ovf for macro, what benefits does night LV have over ovf, thanks
Great question. Night LV can be programmed easily at the switch of a button. Making it super easy to switch from standard view to night view.
@@EmilieT OVF can also be programmed to a button, though - it's useful in some situations :)
Thank you. Can I do auto focus whilst in Night LV?
Yes you can.
For anyone who's puzzled - Night Vision is on the Settings ("cog") menu, screen 3, on the OM-1 mk2
I use it underwater for macro
is the night LV exist on the OM-5
Yes but it is called Live view boost

Is this Night VisIon LV feature available on the OM-5?
Yes but it is called Live view boost
When you connect a flash to the Olympus EM1 mkiii it boasts the view for focusing, no programing required...
Wouldn't it be easier if the Night View mode was automatically activated as soon as a flash is active? Why not?
