Very nice. Next time you run it on video, try putting a slight load on the engine with your finger on the flywheel, I'd love to see the governor respond to that. Thanks, Mr. Pete.
Mr. Pete, I always add a couple very small drops of 2 stroke oil to the fuel for my model internal combustion engines. Just adds an extra bit of lubrication.
Hello Lyle, like the beam engine, this little hit & miss engine is beautifully made and finished. Regardless of where it is made, it appears to be made with pride.
What a great little working model and I see you could even run a flat belt to drive something ! I have a friend who had a real engine like this driving a Icecream Maker every year like clock work he gets it out .
That appears to be a well made mini engine. Years ago I went to a lumberyard and they had a old single cylinder hit and miss engine that had flywheels that were 15 feet tall. A employee there told me it use to run on kerosene and they would wrap a rope around one of the flywheels and use a horse to pull on the rope to turn over the engine. That was appox 55 years ago the last time I saw it, so it probably has been scrapped by now.
The older I get the lighter I like my hobbies to be😂 I have always been a fan of hit or miss engines and this little model seems quite faithful to the design. Love it! If I had one I'd have to build small implements for it to power! Thanks for sharing!
I like the rhythm of the hit and miss. Still learning machining. Hopefully in the future I will try one of the pm research hit and miss engines. But I would like to try and machine and build their more complex steam engines first. Great presentation of this engine, inspiring!
Thank you very much for commenting. Very few people watch my steam engine or gas engine videos. And it saddens me greatly. It’s good to hear from a sensible person that is interested in these amazing items.
I meant to tell you that this company has offered me virtually any engines. I want free to be used in videos. I have turned them down because no one wants to watch the videos.
I'd love to have one, well really two for the grandsons, but the price is above my budget. I am impressed with the precision of the casting and parts. Thanks for the video.
I remember when you could go to the store and buy reconditioned spark plugs and re-refined used oil. I also remember when you could buy engine rebuild kits for less than a $100.00. The kit had piston rings, rod and main bearings and a full gasket set.
Instead of the rosewood box you could install a generator on the base timbers. In that way you could charge your battery while the motor is running. The rosewood box could installed on a separate cart like those used for starting aiplane engines.
looks like fun, could watch it run for hours. wonder if you could hook up a dynamo up to it and charge the USB on the battery from the power of the engine. Happy Saturday!
I have enjoyed your review of the Retrol and am in the process of building mine right now. I would like to use a 9volt battery to power mine, do you feel that this will work properly? Thank you!
Mr. Pete, I am ready to start my engine but am confused about the points. Should they close or open to fire spark plug? On a car I know thy open to fire the plugs but is it the same with the hit and miss. Seems like the spring side of mine is bent improperly, the points want to open as the piston nears top dead center. Your thoughts?
That's how it works. It only has ignition when it's running under a certain RPM. The "hit" is the combustion, which raises RPM, followed by slowing down, no combustion in the chamber ("miss") . When it slows down enough, on the next cycle you get another "hit". Because ignition happens only at a certain point in the cycle, the interval between explosions might not be always the same. It might get to the hit speed just after the ignition point or just before and so on.
Might also be affected by component's precision, lubrication, temperature and so on... Quite often, the governors running this mechanism are not that smooth... I think this is quite visible in this example.
@@aerogfsthank you. I did not realize that a power stroke did not follow every compression stroke. They should add a compression release so it would freewheel longer.😊

My father had one sitting to the side after he got a new electric well pump. Wish I knew what the hell it was and it's value before it disappeared in the way back machine circa 1970's
as a serious model engineer i havent thought that you support those chinese made models ! every serious modeller stays away from those modells ! Mr pete , i know you are a serious model engineer and you did a lot for the community, especialy the stuart build books are valuable , but those modells , in my honest opinion run good but are poorly made

Beautiful hit and miss engine Mr Pete....Thank you for sharing it with us. Take care!!
Hello Lyle, like the beam engine, this little hit & miss engine is beautifully made and finished. Regardless of where it is made, it appears to be made with pride.
Great little Engine, I have one myself, but I haven't ran it yet as I cheaped out and didn't get the box or rails and I still need to build them.

Hook it up to a paint can shaker. Instead of the paint can clamp a clear jar half full of red liquid with a few marbles. I know Mr Pete can rig it up.
Very neat! I've been drooling over these engines for months yet havent pulled the proverbial trigger. Glad you got one to play with!
Thank you for all your videos and time . I have learned so much from you .
Wonderful little engine . Many thanks for displaying it to the world. Impressive !!

They really hit the ball out of the park with this little gem! I have one and I love it!

Very nice engine!
I must confess I bought a model 6a steam casting kit about 5 years ago and it's still in the box. ;)
😂
Need a large hypo needle to fuel the engine, need one just ask. Perhaps rubber feet would help with the jumping? Great video, as usual, thanks.
What a wonderful little engine runs perfectly, thanks for the video Mrpete 👍👍👍👍

What a great engine. Have you tested the castings with a magnet?
I am impressed with this engine. Thank you for sharing this video.
Can you tell me the settings that you ended up with on the fuel needle and throttle opening, Thank You

Hello there!
The RPM and the hit and miss sound do not seem synchronized. What is causing the sound?
Thank you for the video.

@@scottjones7279 This model was not exactly made with efficiency in mind. Besides, people would complain about the lack of "hits".
Thanks for all your advise. Can you tell me where I can find flat drive belt material suitable for this engine? Thanks

Great video
Of all the engines I've seen you with I am trying to delude myself into the price tag.
No wonder I enjoy your videos so much, Mr. Peterson. You are a "salty" nut like me!
Very cool! Beautiful little machine. Is there something you can run/power with it? Maybe a charger for your Tesla!😂. Or maybe your cell phone….
Thanks again
Can we (you) make it run something?
How cool would that be?
Do you have some machine around that would be belted up to it?
Sadly their website is so blocked with ads you can't even get to the products.

That $15 spark plug should add 50 horsepower 😂
Can you explain this tubalcain thing. What does it mean and why do you put it on every video.
Explanation on Intro Banner. Its some biblical reference.
