yeah its extremely difficult to understand and to get into contemporary music now, i just cant bring myself to enjoy pure atonality, although i do love when composers mix tonality with dissonance/atonality, like in the compositions of scriabin, prokofiev, ravel, debussy etc. but i agree this piece is amazing, and more enjoyable than any other contemporary music i can find

    • @cloroxbleach9222

The 1900s-1950s had people like Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev and Shostakovich (sorry I only know Russian composers) who were quite popular with their contemporaries and it is proof modern(ish) people can enjoy classical music. I wonder why we don't know anyone like that in the present or rather they are only popular with an established circle.

  • @bryceowens2741
    @bryceowens2741 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Beautiful composition!
Saw someone else comment about it, but as a hornist, I'd probably die playing that line around 1:34. Specifically trying to hold that high B for so long, and after playing non-stop in the mid-high range since the horns' entrance. It's technically playable, but it'd be super taxing, and with how isolated the part is (since it isn't doubled with another instrument) and with how quiet the dynamic is, it'd be extremely difficult to be able to pull that off in an actual performance. A quick fix would to have another instrument double the part starting around 1:30, and then cutting the duration of the B in the horn part by at least a few beats and let the other instrument sustain the note. Just giving the hornist enough time to let their lips relax for a second or two and get a good breath to finish off the rest of the phrase would be a massive help.
On the flip side, the horn writing during the vivace section is super idiomatic of the instrument, and would be extremely fun to play. Like, it's literally the kind of music a lot of us play horn for. While there's also some high-sustained parts in that section, it's easier (and less taxing) to play at the louder dynamic and the rests scattered throughout help too.

God bless you for ending up in my feed and gifting this amazing composition to the world. I am absolutely amazed by your ability to write concise yet effective material within such a short period of time. And yet I hear you write more perfected and refined work for actual ensembles? How much more beautiful and divine they must be! I cannot fathom that.
The piece is taut and well-structured for a six-minute ternary form. Your use of dissonance wonderfully complements the diatonic harmony in the Adagio sections, and the Vivace adds a fantastic contrast in mood and tonality. As a fellow composer myself, I have yet to discover the difference composing at 3am makes to my work… perhaps I’ll give it a shot.
The piece is also well-orchestrated - the instrumentation is fairly straightforward, which is a massive benefit to the work since it was written at such a late time of night (or early time of day? Up to you.).
Please continue to write and share your work with us. It’s wonderful.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

adagio is lovely, love the horn lines, same thing to vivace! That oboe bit near the end of vivace followed by the violins is a loovely transition into the recapitulation. 5:11 is so nice. it reminds me of debussy. love the interplay between the cello and the winds with the space filled by the undulating arps. My suggestion for composing is just start, it will become easier with time and you’ll make some skill. Improvise a lot on the piano, and when you feel comfortable try improvising in forms (ex. ABA, ABACA). I personally always tried in the beginning to write always for different instrument so when I would feel comfortable in one I would go to exact opposite. (Ex. From flute going to cello, from cello to oboe)

Suggest Max Reger‘s first piece of his Romantic Suite,
of Course Mahler 9 movement 4 (though its quite drammatic),
Schönbergs sublime nocturne for strings, ( one of his last tonal compositions)
Maybe also Shostakovich piano concerto 2 mov 2
      Hope you like it❤️

From another composer: This is magnificent, and congratulation because write music at 3Am is really hard (at least for me...)!I like your style very much. (1) Did the musescore soundfont always sound this good? at times I genuinely couldn't distinguish this from a real orchestra
    (2) Due to the extensive use of the notes C#, F#, and G#, it might've been better to have labeled the score as A Major so as to avoid having the score flooded with sharp symbols
