i've been making art for 20 years i've tried countless different mediums and watched many hours of tutorials, this is by far the most well explained i've ever watched , i rarely hear people putting that much emphasis on observation skill wich is ,in my opinion THE most important skill in art, that and taking your time and enjoying the process the rest just comes with time and experimentation. very well done!
This frigging video….. is one of the most badass things I have ever seen in my life. I have only owned my airbrush for 2 days so I am far from this…but damn it, am I going to try! Haha… you have serious skills man, not just painting but teaching. I’m going to binge your videos now, unbelievable job.
@@theartworkshop My pleasure! I actually wrote that before I had checked out any other videos. I literally have not left the page yet.. You are like a modern day Bob Ross, not in a way that his paintings are comparable to yours… But in a way how something about you and your teaching style, down to earth personality etc. makes somebody like me think that they could make something so awesome. Keep it up man, I’ll be watching!!
@@theartworkshop I put to use some of the tips you've showed us. Such as, I made my own "Dot/Skin texture" template with the soldering Iron.(Great Idea)! What I would love to see how you retrofit your Dremel for the eraser. My Helix eraser is too week. You also asked if you should make longer videos. Yes, I love the details you're teaching. I learn soooo much from your videos. I'm looking forward to the next series. Keep em' coming brother. Thanks man!
@@manicairbrush4395 Thanks for the advice! I'm planning to make the videos longer in the future, instead of multiple parts. We'll see how it turns out. I'm thinking of switching back to an electric eraser. The Dremel is annoying to replace erasers, and they tend to fall out. It's not as good as it looks. Get yourself some sand erasers for the helix. They are the gray ones made by a brand called sun dolphin.
@@theartworkshop Will do, Thanks man. I looked for the sun dolphin that you put a screen shot of and Amazon don't know if they will have them anymore. A link for them would be cool. Just received my Creos ps-270 (.2) minutes ago. Gonna give it a test run! Thanks man.
Great tutorial. I think using transparent paint for the skintone is much more intuitive than the method of using opaques in different shades from light to dark. I will definitely try this way.
Hi, I noticed that you used the LabGenius Mini Vortex Mixer which sells for $91 on Amazon. Can you tell me why you chose this paint mixer over the cheaper ones? Others sell for quite a bit less (about $30) and I’m wondering why you chose the more expensive one. Thank you!
Very nice tutorial. I am surprised at how well the Createx Illustration Paint erased off of the gesso. I have been using Claybord for years and avoided gesso because I found it hard to erase back in. I will have to make a skin texture template for myself.
Incredible work and fantastic tutorial! Can you please provide a link to where you purchased the skin texture template? Thank you. keep up the great work!
thank you! I made it myself and also made a video awhile back on how to make your own. Pretty easy to do. Here is a link to it- th-cam.com/video/Yd1lv7_Ctuw/w-d-xo.html
Nice Job 👍 thanks for explaining this with great detail. I have a a variable dremel tool with the flex shift rotary. Like a pen sort of. Can it be use for this. It has different speeds. It also has a chuck on it. You think it be fine to stick the eraser on it and use it or how did you attached your eraser to your Dremel tool. keep the videos coming. A great tutorial indeed. 💯👍
Bow many aurbrush do you use? I mean everytime you switch to another color? Or is it possible to work with a single airbrus? The colors don’t get mixed in the aurbrush and become another color?
I just one one airbrush. Very rarely do I use 2 airbrushes for a painting. Switching between colors is very easy- takes me like 10 seconds. Here is a video I made on how I do it. Hope it helps! th-cam.com/video/qN1w-7ShK08/w-d-xo.html
Is there any room when airbrushing to apply lighter colour on darker tones, working from dark to light? Or is that too problematic respectively impossible to get to work?
yes, of course! But you get a blue/grey color shift which is annoying. Nothing wrong with dark to light though. I used to only paint that way but much prefer painting light to dark these days.
@@theartworkshop So it is more forgiving than I worried. I am gathering all sorts of information before buying a starter set. Your channel is definately one of the places to go^^ Thanks! :)
I tried mixing the fleshtone using your mixture with same exact paint but it is purple??? Just purple. 20 drops burnt umber, 20 red violet, 8 moss green, and about 10 distilled water?
So many things can cause this- improperly mixed paint and different color mixtures from the factory are 2 common ones. It sounds like your red violet has too much blue- I've seen this before as well. Either add more green to counter the red, more yellow to counter violet, or use less red-violet in the mixture. Color mixing should never been seen as a recipe!! I have to adjust colors for every single portrait. Rarely do colors mix exactly the same. Make sure you watch my video on mixing flesh tones.
@@theartworkshop I understand. It was just so off. I have watched almost all of your videos. I find them very inspiring. Probably main reason I am attempting the projects I am. Thank you
@@wrobo7705 thanks man. I appreciate that. You'll get color mixing down- takes some time but isn't all that difficult once you understand it. Best of luck!

It's too bad you didn't list the formula for the flesh tone at the beginning. One of the hardest things for me is the mixing of colours and when there's an exact formula it makes it a lot easier.
I bought an airbrush to paint my scale models. I didn't know it was capable of this! I want to have a go myself now.

I agree. I mixed separate values for years and finally stopped. Transparent colors offer more control in my opinion.
