In an age of USB sticks and organised playlists, the amount of work that goes into a live set seems overly complicated. Since you're playing with just your own sounds, your scope is limited compared to a DJ. What's more, the elements of the tracks are divided between different pieces of gear, requiring a degree of preparation that would make many DJs balk. Then there's the practicalities of travelling to other countries with cases of expensive, fragile equipment. And once you're on stage, so much more can go wrong.
Truss and Tessela, however, make the effort pay off. As Overmono, their live sets walk a fine line between hardware and software, structure and improvisation. They started playing live together just last year and have been steadily refining their approach ever since, particularly with post-show debriefs over tea. Translating their visceral productions into a coherent live show is no mean feat, so we followed them from their London studio to Sonar Festival in Barcelona, getting a sense of the journey from rehearsal to soundcheck to performance.

It’s bonkers how much good music comes from the UK
Fokin true mate
Especially when you consider how tasteless they are otherwise!
@@TheCALMInstitute this is the biggest fact
@@TheCALMInstitute out of the grimness comes the goodness.
My theory: it's because of the shitty weather. So people are forced to spend more time inside. "Man fuck this rain what the bloody hell am I supposed to do now? Guess I'll make another track then."
they come across as such nice people. love their music.
best musicien are offen the most modest one (not all unfortunatly)
@@stacyOyo Absolutely agree :)
Fuck me. I cannot wait for the next album. Everything released over the last 3 years just keeps getting better and better, bending all sorts of genres together. You fellas fucking rock
"When I change tempo is alright to send you an Octa trigger at the same time?" Wicked, more of these please! Off to check out some Overmono tunes now, cheers 👍
Cool down to earth and genuine artists. Pure gold. Love them.
Their latest album is amazing.
Camomile tea and debrief. Haha that's exactly what I'd be doing after plugging all that stuff in and being on a stage like that. Nice video thanks for this!
love this duo
Overmono is so good!!
I realise I’m a bit late to the party.
These guys are gonna be BIG!!!
Went into Piccadilly Records, Manchester, UK; to grab a copy of Diamond Cut/ Bby but it sold out over the weekend 😭!
However, they said some more “should” be coming BACK in stock!!!
So hopefully 🙏 I’m getting a copy along with Sons of Slough - Live EP (FELT002).

Does anyone know what instrument(s) they're using to create generative rhythms in Ableton Live? I guess it's a M4L device, but I don't know which one's that.
Red Now if you look at the screen, you can see that the knob is changing the play position on the drum loop. Perhaps the knob is making it jump from one predefined marker to another.
It wouldn't be too hard to have knob A control play position, knob B loop duration, so on so forth.
If you're controlling multiple loops at once you could have a row for snares another for kick etc
this was using stacks of arpeggiators chained together all with different rates effecting each other so they would start cutting into each other's rhythms. but we've been using Reaktor instead recently.
What stuff in Reaktor?
Also do you have any of those gabber delay machines for sale :P?
Did you ever figure out what they were using?
