Agreed. Tom forgot to mention the Straight Pipe fellas. They do the "box" (plastic storage bins) test. They do need to be more seasoned to reach the level of Mr.Voelk!
You know Tom is very passionate about his work when you see him hit the dashboard hard to show it's as hard as a rock....he hit it so hard, he left skin cells behind! That's commitment to excellence!!

Tom, excellent review as always. I just test drove a Kicks and a Soul "S" trim. The Soul is head & shoulders better than the underpowered Kicks. I believe that the Soul uses a chain driven CVT instead of the belt driven version in the Nissan. Very little "rubber band" effect in the Kia. Kia has a MUCH better powertrain warranty too.
I'm from Morocco. Too bad this car is not available in my country. Love it so much.

While I am quietly optimistic about the impending release of the 2021 Kia Seltos, I can't help but shake my head that they didn't turn the "trailster" concept into a Kia Soul for AWD use. Kia said they would not have been able to do that without raising prices, but how many R&D dollars did they spend on Seltos? It had to have been many...
I have the GT line turbo. And sometimes I trip out when I find a new thing with my car. Lol but the turbo, wireless charger that Harmon Kardon sound system is liiiiiiiiit. I love my soul it’s my 3rd one actually. I just wish the gtline turbos had more color options
Now that Sirius XM is offering 3 free months of service as part of a class action settlement, I was disappointed to learn my new 2020 LX Soul can no longer receive satellite radio.
The C pillar SOUL should light up (as an option). Nothing crazy bright. I do agree, no AWD was a mistake for this model line.
I don't think the Soul need AWD if the Seltos comes to NA. That vehicle is bigger, taller, and the AWD wouldn't take up much cargo space. Remove the GT-Line Turbo, and sprinkle the premium options to the other trims. Let the Soul be the entry level crossover for people who are not interested in buying a Hyundai Venue due to it size.
Trying to convince my mother to get this vehicle. She has a Subaru outback and nows the time to trade it in for something with better visibility and better warranty and space. Thanks for good video, going to share it with her. This car is thousands less than what they want for a new Subaru Forster. 4 wheel drive would have hit this thing out the park but I don't think its necessary.
I live in Northern Utah with a front wheel drive Volvo Wagon. Pop on some snow tires and you'll be fine in snowy conditions.

Likewise, a CVT with pre-set shifting points is not a CVT anymore, it loses the whole reason to be a CVT. Stoooooopid. CVT should be rubbery.
Driven Car Reviews Oh Tom, that wasn’t aimed at you, at all. It actually sounds like a peach of a CVT; as far as CVT’s go.
I was merely amused by Mazda’s name for it. No one can blame them for trying to separate themselves from others.

LeadHammer - Drive a 2020 Kia Soul with the IVT, then come back and tell us how stupid the preprogrammed shift points are. I actually own the 2020 x-line and have ZERO issues with performance or “feel” of the IVT. Nobody likes the rubber band effect with a CVT, it’s one of the reasons people complain about them. 🇺🇸🇰🇷
Kia makes very good car
This is definitely a compact vehicle worth looking at if you don't want a traditional crossover but you still want great visibility at an affordable price.

Hi, this is very strange. I purchased my Kia Soul XLine white pearl 2020 on December 2019 and has USB port for the back seats and doesn't have the double floor for the trunk

Can't stand this car more than almost any other vehicle. The fact that I watched this simply because it's your review proves my dedication to your channel...lol Not just the click and subscribe I gave you long ago. Keep up the great work, you have the power to make even the Soul worth learning about.
But StraightPipes does the box test so sorta similar. But awesome review. I love my LX model I got over a month ago with the 6 speed manual, already put 2k miles on it and its fun to drive. I got combined 35 to 39 mpgs from calcuting at the fuel pump, not on the digital readout on the guages. This car is a wagon-hatchback. I think its an insult to call it a cuv

As someone in the market for a small-ish, tall-ish, cheap-ish commuter car that I won't regret having to keep paying for 2-3 years down the line I don't like that you have to go all the way up to EX trim to get heated seats. At 23k it sort of undercuts Kia's value proposition.

Key? No push button start? I also agree KIA is missing out on the all-wheel drive option for those of us who live in snowy or rainy (Seattle) climates.
i agree the AWD would've been the icing on the cake, especially after they had that trail'ster concept car a bit ago. I think they went with Seltos instead due to it being similar in look to so many other SUVs which would be better sales maybe? But look at the specs of the Seltos and for the price, I'm not seeing huge advantages aside from the AWD. It's the same engine/HP as the Soul! I think I would spend an extra $3-5K for the AWD if the option were offered...
These cars have crept up in price. The Turbo version is approaching $32-33k CND... just too much of an ask for this car.

This car WOULD be perfect for my wife's next car except for one stupid thing...if you opt for the base model LX and the manual transmission, you only get three soul-crushing (pun intended) color choices: silver, white, or black. If you get an LX with an automatic, red, yellow, and orange suddenly become available to you (as well as a two-tone interior). I can't imagine why Kia does this...if you ever get a chance to ask them Tom, I'd love to hear their reasoning!

@@DrivenCarReviews I don't see how though...the body is painted before the powertrain is installed, so why limit a manual to 3 color choices? Seems like a hokey way for Kia to nudge people towards a more expensive automatic
I have a 2017 Exclaim and from what I’ve seen, it’s better in every way from the Gen 3.

Kia Soul "Sparse Line" is more befitting for this model. Them skimping on the back map pocket, center armrest, and charge port is a bit befuddling, but I guess all of the money spent on those rugged exterior trim pieces had to come from somewhere. And it still bothers me that there's no grab handle for the driver (on any trim) in this generation even though the indentation is there...just odd cost-cutting decisions all around.

I see the same main youtubers reference each other quite often. Are they all owned by the same parent company that publishes these? I even had one of them recommend I hit up Alex's channel, which seemed odd to send someone to a competitor. Reason I ask, is I recently found out that all the cereals and sodas at the grocery store are actually owned by about 3 companies, just lots of brands under the same umbrella. So whether you get Fanta, Sprite, Dasani, Coke, Powerade, Mountain Dew, Fuze, Minute Maid, bla bla its all the same company.

Three things i hate about the new soul is that the 1.6L Turbo is priced way too high at $29k and doesn't even get IRS like the Elantra Sport, Veloster N, ECT. Finally AWD needed to be offered on both powertrains. This is too much of a refresh the a redesign

I agree they should have had a four wheel drive version and electric in every market. Opportunity missed.
They sell very well without 4wd. In-fact they are Kia's #1 seller.
Price point matters , they didn't fall for the Millennials Trap of sheer Stupidity " I want all this now, then don't buy it because to expensive" ..( bye bye soul).. there other cars in Kia 's line to cover that spot..

I agree with KIA on AWD. This car is value orientated. A set of winter tires work well since Soul is lightweight.
2:16 - I could never understand the one-two second pause before you pop up the hood; 2:22 - 1990s tech borrowed from VW? Cheesy and useless (I have the 2017 GTi, it opens in my pocket all the time), and the position in which the engine starts is as bad as on the VW, I need to twist my wrist further than I want to start the car. The good thing about the GTi is that the music does not pause when I turn the engine on, like on older cars. 4:58 - whoa, look at this misaligned bumper, as if it already has been in an accident. As for asking for subscriptions, I never cared for them, I subscribe for stuff that I like, and no amount of nagging would make me subscribe to stuff I don't like (I subscribed to your channel though).
Make it sleek and it is no longer the practical car everyone wanted. To improve a boxy car you have to make it more boxy, or it ceases to exist.
The Honda CR-V and the Toyota Rav-4 are a lot better looking!!

That start/stop system is not unobtrusive, but reviewer is too busy asking for subscribers to pay for his new taycan to tell the truth.
I eliminated the irritating S-S system on my 2019 Santa Fe by pushing the button down and wedging in a piece of small cutoff credit card. Walhalla problem solved !
