  • Ever wanted to create a custom enclosure for your chameleon or other beloved reptile, but don't know where to start? In this video, Dylan of Magickal Chams demonstrates the process of how he built three wooden vivariums from scratch.
This video is intended to convey a love for woodworking as well as a love for chameleons and how the two can correlate. Please feel free to critique and improve on any methods/plans depicted. This video was created in hope of giving viewers inspiration to build a vivarium of their own, not to show off "perfection."
PLEASE be knowledgable of safety procedures for each tool you use before using it. Magickal Chams is not responsible for any injury you inflict upon yourself if deciding to embark on your own DIY vivarium journey.
If you're unsure where to start with this or simply want to learn how to start woodworking, check out Steve Ramsey's Woodworking for Mere Mortals TH-cam Channel:

Links - due to the mass amount of items and tools used in this video, each one cannot be linked. Here is a basic list:
    • Table Saw - Doesn't need to be super fancy. Try a low cost Craftsman brand one or one from Harbor Freight
    • Router Table - The one in the video is from Harbor Freight. Brand is Chicago Electric
    • Kreg Pocket Hole Jig & Pocket Hole Screws - easily found at corporate hardware stores.
    • Drill - Any will do. Doesn't need to be super fancy
    • Pond Shield Non-Toxic Epoxy Pond Liner - found on Amazon or Pond Shield Website
    • Orbital Sander - very common. This type is suggested for best results
If wanting to create beautiful miter (45 degree) cuts, you'll find a miter sled (such as the one in the video) will be extraordinarily beneficial:

I used to always keep my chams in glass vivs, had a mesh top and mesh under the doors, and then i just added fans on the top that created that air movement
Easy enough to do, people just seem so set in stone on methods lol
Your vivariums are absolutely beautiful ❤

Love your work! Would you suggest any other material to line the cage with? Pond Shield is nice, just a little expensive. Any experience with other stuff you could use to waterproof wood?

As An Dagda said, poly works great. If you're not worried about the aesthetic, Flex Seal liquid works great and is non-toxic. I believe it's about $30 for a 32oz can.
