    Today is going to be the 1st day of 18 consecutive days and I hope to be mastering playing vibrato afterwards. I am 66 yrs old; arthritis in fingers but not too bad. I have such a longing to be playing beautiful in church one day, that I just keep on keeping on! Thank you Michael for helping us so much in the way you try and teach us. It has to bear fruits!

      It takes at least 6 months and up to like 2 years to really MASTER vibrato for most people. There is no way you will master it in 18 consecutive days, so don't lose heart. People who really master vibrato slave over their vibrato.

      Eugenie van Zyl Great. Did you improve? It took me 3 years with a bad violin. And just one week to master vibrato in a good violin. This is what most teachers fail to tell their students.

    Hi Violin Tutor Pro,
    This is the best lesson on vibrato I’ve seen. I’ve been struggling for years figuring it out on my own and watching other videos. This one best describes what to do! Your information on the angle of the hand/fingers, and the motion, focusing on the blade of the hand moving towards you…very excellent and simple. Thank you so much. This is very helpful 🙏🫶🏽

    Very good instructions. Best seen on here. I am 75. Had a violin from age 12. Never ever looked for an instructor all thoughout all these years, just for vibrato lessons. So lax believing it came naturally. Never have performed with librota.

    First of your lessons that I have seen. I love the reference of patting head and rubbing stomach. That's what playing had felt like and vibrado seemed impossible like the rub/pat. But you did it!! And showed is. Now I know it's possible, eventually. ;-) . I'm 61 and learning. Thank you for giving me confidence. I'll be rewatching this lesson and practicing over and over until I get it.

    this is very useful as it tells us where our fingers should be, where our hand should be, how much pressure we should be using. I think this is excellent in tell us how the fundamentals need to be in place in prep for when we learn vibrato.

  • @Skinny_Karlos
    @Skinny_Karlos ปีที่แล้ว

    I've worked out why a degree in music - classical guitar doesn't help with violin vibrato. On the guitar the fingers are more perpendicular to the strings whereas on the violin the fingers are more, not totally but more, parallel to the strings so my guitar vibrato is totally useless here. Back to the beginning and on with the work !! Two years of this seems interminable but doable if one is dedicated and if anything I'm dedicated to becoming a better violinist. I want to join our local orchestra but without a classy vibrato, this is just not possible. Two years, another grade or two (seventh or eighth grade AMEB) and maybe they'll accept me into the local orchestra. Thank you for your time and your video. On to work now...

    How to stop the bow from shaking/bouncing?

    • @vmp98

      Jensen Kho are we supposed to give pressure to the bow or let it go smoothly over the strings by its own weight?

    • @michaelgachich9511
      @michaelgachich9511 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Verencia Mulya Putri different pressure for different strings; on the G you can afford to press a lot but use gradually less pressure as u get to the E string, there u barely press. When u apply pressure apply with ur pointer finger

    hello - I have watched many teachers on TH-cam teaching vibrato. You are a great teacher. I followed along with your demonstrations and was able to have that beginning wrist/arm movement and finger position and get the first stage of vibrato (actually moving the arm and holding the fingers correctly allowed me to get the slow movement/tone as described with all four fingers. Concentrating on relaxing the arm/wrist/hand/fingers IS key. Slowly, over time, practicing it every day, I'm sure I'll get it down whereas I had had my doubts. This video is now 5 years old. I hope you still teach and make more. thank you.
    p.s. I notice you don't use a shoulder rest. I prefer that style as well. I have a small pad under the violin. Holding the instrument in place with neck/chin pressure gets tough. any tips for that?

    Very helpful. I've only been at it a couple of days now, but your video made it come together. I stopped when you told me to, however. What I don't understand is why my knuckles don't move like yours do. It's as if I don't have a joint there, even though you weren't emphasizing it, your knuckle was going up and down at 8:02.

      It's hand vibrato, not wrist vibrato, and it takes 6 months up to1- 2 years with consistent hard work to get a gorgeous vibrato. Btw, he doesn't have a good vibrato, and you can't get a good vibrato in 18 days. You can get it, just know it will take a long time of consistent work.

    For years I've had a beautiful candy apple red electric stingray violin and have always been unable to do vibrato on it but I could on my old violin and only recently found a solution. If you have a stingray violin you've probably noticed the finish on the paint makes it incredibly sticky against the sides of your thumb and palm of your hand.
