Hey smug I just started SFV today but im struggling a bit with learning combos etc. I know the frame data and stuff since i watch a lot of SF tournaments etc but im really struggling with following up on crush counters with balrog. Especially his charged moves I find em a bit hard to input ( I suck with balmarog im sorry )
ABC brother Always Be Charging Rog's normals don't require directional input so that time can be used to charge. For crush start charging as soon as you press the button and you'll pull it off. The rest comes down to feeling and lab time. Set the cpu to always get counter hit and block after first hit and it'll be easier

Most people dont know this but the reason why balrog gets called boxer is because his original name is in fact Bison, Vega is the real Balrog and Bison is actually Vega, in USA they switched the names out of fear that Tyson would sue capcom for the likeness of the character on top of the name being too obvious "M Bison", so the Japanese call him boxer now to avoid confusion, and everyone just picked up on that.
Vega thrash in this game. Actually that's not even Vega, it's some wack ass stance changing character that uses shoto controls instead of charge controls like the actual Vega. I wish Vega was in SFV...not this impostor
I thought so too, but then I tried Bison and the charging mechanics started to make sense. What's worked for me is to do trials constantly to get the charge timing right. Also, you have to get in the habit of charging immediately after inputting a move so you can pull off moves faster.

Frame-traps [On a non-technical level] 1] Basically, a frame trap is when you deliberately leave just enough of a lack of block-stun between your attacks that will allow your opponent's attacks to enter their startup phase, but are guaranteed to be snuffed by the second one you threw. Frame-traps on a technical level All attacks have 3 phases. Startup, active, and recovery. Block-stun is a property, so I'll mention that too. -Startup = how many frames of animation time-wise are necessary for the attack initiated to advance before it can hit the opponent -Active = how many frames of animation time-wise can the attack possibly hit the opponent. -Recovery = How many frames of animation once an attack leaves it's hitting / active phase does it take before the person is no longer trapped in the animations for the attack. -Block-stun [Actually, this is a property, not a phase] = the amount of time the opponent is unable to move due to blocking your attack. If you attack with something that's + something on hit [the opponent is negative on block meaning you at your earliest will hit first], and then throw out something else that's plus enough that the intended victim will leave block-stun, but not plus enough that your next attack won't enter it's active [hitting phase] first, if they attack now, they will get hit out of their startup phase for both a counter-hit and thus be frame-trapped. There are vulnerabilities to frame trapping, but those can be used in your favor. The counters to frame traps are blocking, and invincible punishes. -If you do a frame-trap and someone burns you with an invincible or armored move, they just told you that they can do that. All you need to do now is the exact same frame-trap, and delay the attack barely long enough that their invincible move will put you in block-stun. If they do, the attack again, they DIE. -If the intended victim blocks, after 2-3 attempts to bait the attack, substitute the snuff attack for a throw attempt. Lets be honest Balrog is actually one of the scariest characters in the game but he's still got the style to back it up unlike some of them. There are a lot of other characters that I feel are scary but have way less style Rashid is one of them and he's also really annoying.

@@derekbuckler9888 Throw tech timing in SFV is less forgiving than in SFIV. Even pros get thrown 3-4 times in a row sometimes. For most, teching is more predictive than reactive.

Going to pick up a sf pad to, never liked arcade sticks. Unless I was playing a neo geo game, and yes the poking game is quite different now. Frame rates, everything has changed.
