I’m absolutely heartbroken. It is so, SO rare to have an artist that is genuinely original, groundbreaking and one-of-a-kind. David Lynch was such an artist. Everything he did was so out of the box and vastly different to what everyone else was doing. He was in a field of one. It was always so exciting and challenging when we got to experience new work from David and it breaks my heart that we’ll never get to experience a new David Lynch project. I’m so thankful that I got to walk the earth at the same time as this incredible artist and experience his art. I’ll really miss him and his sense of humour. R.I.P David, your art completely changed my life and how I approach my art. I know that there are millions of people out there that think the same. You were one of the all time greats.
Same here. Thank you. You said it all, so beautifully. I am so grateful to him, as well. If you are lucky enough experience his creations, it feels like you’re inhabiting a whole new realm that is strange and also comforting and enriches your entire being. His art is magical. He was like a dream come true.
Wow - a lesson for the kids out there. This sounds like print-through; a phenomenon from the tape days. The wound up video tape is stored for a long time and sound from one layer transfers magnetically into the layer below that is pressed up against it on the spool. You hear the regular sound, then you hear that sound again embedded in the layer below it as THAT piece of tape makes its way past the PLAY head. And so on... I think for this kind of nuttiness to be happening on David Lynch's tribute is kind of perfect.
I was too young for Twin Peaks as it aired. Watching it 20 years later blew my mindddddd. I cannot fathom it was on network TV and that the floor fell out on it. Way ahead of its time. RIP to this master.
Yup, same here…I was 12-13 when it aired originally. I remember hearing it talked about it a lot at the time, but when I finally watched it about 10 years ago, I couldn’t believe a network actually aired such a bold and weird show, in 1990 no less!
This show and The X Files were where I went to smoke my Marlboro Reds and become a angsty teenager. I had to give up all three in time but you're right, revisiting my timeshare there is always enjoyable.
RIP David Lynch, I will never forget the premiere of the first episode of Twin Peaks, never seen anything like that before on Television, it set the bar for dramatic TV Series for the decades to come
Love seeing this today, but why is there loud chatter throughout the clip lol. Extra props to Lynch for putting Bob Iger on blast to keep Twin Peaks on the air.
Just started watching TP for the first time. My parents used to enjoy watching when I was a child. I was too young to know anything about it. It's kind of nice to watch now, knowing I'm watching something my late dad enjoyed watching back in the day.
I think Disney bought it, or agreed to distribute it, after it was completed. It's not like it was a Disney project and someone hired David to direct it. My memory is that Mary Sweeney wrote a screenplay based on the news story and brought it to David.
Master. I attended the Chicago Art Show at the Pier in 2004? Circa. Anyway, I was at a smaller booth, from I think Montana or Wyoming. Flipping through some sketches, prints, and...a chunk of styrofoam. A square. In it were two squares. Each dot of styrofoam was indented with a blue pen to form two perfect squares. I loved it. It said, "Artist, David Lynch". I laughed, turned to the owner of the booth. After a conversation he said, yes, that David Lynch. Perhaps the least of his accomplishments. Master.
This did not cover enough David's relationship with philanthropy of the most extraordinary kind. His David Lynch Foundation funded the instruction in the Transcendental Meditation technique for millions of students in at-risk schools and inner city communities, as well as veterans with PTSD, abused women and native Americans. He gathered together dozens of practitioners of TM, such as Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Sting, Hugh Jackman, Katy Perry, Russell Brand and many others, to perform and raise money for his foundation. As a veteran, I know of thousands of men and women who benefited from Lynch's inspiration and wisdom. And his foundation is now funding programs globally. He will be missed, but his foundation's work will continue to enrich, inspire and enlighten millions of people -- in a way that expands minds and hearts, even more skillfully than his film-making prowess. David Lynch will live on in the lives of millions of people, and will continue to pave the way for a wise, loving and harmonious world....
Learning about his brother being “responsible” for electric wiring in government buildings gets me thinking about the role of electricity and outlets in Twin Peaks: The Return. Fun to imagine David at a family gathering asking his brother, “So, might an outlet serve as an interdimensional portal for consciousness and spiritual entities?”
If you can find it here on youtube, the complete series "On The Air" (mentioned in the interview) is a true Lynchian hoot! It's a 50's style sitcom about the goings on of an all live TV network. There are only seven episodes. Lifted from a Japanese Laser disc release (the ONLY release of this show ever). It's definitely worth a view.........if you're lucky enough to suffer from Bozeman's Simplex you'll see 26.4 percent more than the rest of us!!!
He was so damn charming. Rest in peace. Eraserhead and twin peaks changed what i thought a movie and a tv show could be, i mean a revolutionary change. Rest in peace
To the man who gave the world _Eraserhead_ , the most surreal, bleak film I've ever seen...rest in peace dear sir. 🙏That film was my introduction to David Lynch's work. It was so very odd & I suppose I assumed Mr Lynch would be so very odd as well. I was surprised to see the lovely man, the easy going artist that he was. That film will never leave my brain.
Really sad day. Double whammy. Lynch and Uecker. Bummer. Edit: There's also a strange echo of the sound that lags behind the audio by a second or two. Peculiar.
That strange, faint echo of the audio in the background of this video is very Lynchian.
Yes!
Ah! I just thought it was annoying.
I think it's aliasing from the original videotape being wound up.
Do you like creamed corn?
yeah was hoping to be the first to mention that

The great ones always die too young. Meanwhile the despicable and talentless always manage to live on forever.
"if you stop and think out it, it might be the kind of show that has a limited run and be a classic forever"
Letterman totally nailed that one.
People that watch Twin Peaks are party people
Rest in peace David, wonderful man and artist
Lettermans still alive!
@@theonlyofficialskyhightmyo3013 Letterman is alive, but David Lynch passed away recently.
@ I know right? whys this guy scaremongering that letterman died! Doesn't make any sense!
RIP David Lynch 😢 Thank you for giving us so much thought-provoking, absolutely bonkers art.

Wonderfully appropriate 💜💜💜

@@NoellaScott Hi! Love Twin Peaks. Maybe give Eraserhead a watch. Now, that will blow your mind!😅
R.I.P. David.
I didn't even know that Letterman was sick.
I cannot believe this. My childhood (and adult) hero. Gone.
I agree, it's a very sad day...
It’s such a sadness 💔
It’ll be you and all of us someday.
Sorry Coop, Gordon Cole himself is gone
RIP David Lynch, I will never forget the premiere of the first episode of Twin Peaks, never seen anything like that before on Television, it set the bar for dramatic TV Series for the decades to come
Thanks Dave. And thanks David Lynch for all you gave us
Before Disney, David Lynch introduced me to the name “Bob Iger” when he read his address on Letterman to help save our favorite show. 🤣
Blue skies and golden sunshine, all along the way! RIP
I love to annoy network weasels, even if it is not this network's weasels. -David Letterman (why he was the best TV host ever)
Love seeing this today, but why is there loud chatter throughout the clip lol. Extra props to Lynch for putting Bob Iger on blast to keep Twin Peaks on the air.
RIP to an absolute legend
I love this guy. Will miss his work!
Sweet prince. You became an idea yourself. Thank your for being here.
Loved Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive back in the day. Time to piece through Lynch’s other works as I’ve been meaning to. RIP 🙏
RIP legend. I love you David Lynch
I think of Queen Elizabeth as a Twin Peaks fan. so amusing
RIP Mr. Lynch. a true artist and gentleman.
Alright guys, let's start writing those letters!!!
Truly a great loss. Rest in peace gentle brilliant weirdo.

RIP, thank you for posting this today
What a handsome man. Rest in peace. 🙏❤️
To me the most WTF credits ever. Walt Disney produced a David Lynch film. The Straight Story is such a great movie.
Often named by Norm MacDonald as a favourite film, may they both RIP.
Agreed - a fantastic movie.
It’s sentimental, honest, tragic and downright beautiful. In terms of tone, it’s wildly different from Lynch’s other works. But just as impactful
I think Disney bought it, or agreed to distribute it, after it was completed. It's not like it was a Disney project and someone hired David to direct it. My memory is that Mary Sweeney wrote a screenplay based on the news story and brought it to David.
Write to Bob Iger from ABC. We want David Back...
What would that mean for Jimmy?
Loved him and his brilliance ❤
The same Bob Iger who messed up the MCU, Star Wars, Disney Parks and NOW finding out in 2025 Bob Iger bumbled Twin Peaks!?!?!
Lynch will be sorely missed 🙏

A real gent and a true artist. He will be very much missed.
I feel unbelievably sad today
Anyone: So how did you find out about [celebrity]'s death?
Me: David Letterman's TH-cam, of course.

Would have LOVED to see Lynch’s vision of Ronnie Rocket….
Wow! I can't believe that David Lynch is no longer with us. He was truly amazing.

"Lynchian"?
Rest in peace, you singular man!
(And PLEASE, whoever runs this channel, put a black ribbon on the thumbnail when someone actually died.)
Forever my favorite. The reason I grew to love avant garde films and art. Big hugs to all the Lynch fans. Let’s have a huge screening together, yeah?
I'll sign the guestbook, as well.

A gift to humanity, goodbye Mr.Lynch
That waa a nice smooth interview ❤😊
I thought "oh no, not Lynch haha" and then found out elsewhere that "oh no, yes Lynch"
This is so upsetting.
“Now, it’s dark…”
Bob Iger jumpscare
Isn't there another appearance where David Lynch talks about being sick with a fever and delivering newspapers? I would love to see that clip again.
Please fix the audio.
Other interviewers treated Lynch as a freakshow, Letterman instead recognized a fellow midwestern misfit, and it showed
Two corn dogs walk into a crime scene...
Damn, Dave hat the foreshadowing that Twin Peaks would become a classic

Thank you
you can hear someone talking in the back :D

rest in peace david :)
Eraserhead was a very bizarre movie, too.
1:49 oh my God, Letterman was right.
Can someone explain what's happening distantly in the left audio channel? It sounds like producers/behind the scenes folks talking.
Yo is the Letterman team just have celebrity deaths on their news feed? News came out about his death less than 30 minutes ago lol
Using someone's death to get clicks and views is a pretty low move. Reeks of desperation.
It shows Letterman has great content and shares with us to help out a smile on our faces.
Goodbye Mr. Lynch
rest in peace
He knows where he's going guys dont worry. RIP
Un groso de verdad. Respect
2025 every one watching today should send that mail to that address in memory of this man and this broadcast
Knew it had to happen one day. So sad though.
Is it me or does the audio lightly echo throughout the clip? It's quite Lynchian, actually. Rest in Peace, David.
