- INSANEly fast Autobahn acceleration test with the new Tesla Model S P85 D delivering a mind-blowing 700 hp and around 900 Nm of torque, at a standstill! Yes, the test was actually setting off from 5-10 km/h but nevertheless, the acceleration in all scenarios is just mind-blowing taking about 1 sec. from 0-50 km/h. To set the acceleration in perspective, the car weighs well over 2 tons, and we had 3 large adults on board. The power applied is actually dependent on how fast you hit the throttle and the problem is, that the g-forces (at least 2g) are so immense that you are pulled back while trying to mash the "gas" all the way through...never experienced something like this! As the car has only 1 gear it's pretty obvious that the acceleration decreases once you are reaching higher speeds and the red numbers indicate that you are getting close to 250 km/h was the max RPMs of the motors are reached. The acceleration from 0-100 km/h is fantastic, but above it decreases considerably.
At 200 the acceleration slows down to almost slow motion.

+parahumanoid If you're being serious, then you should know that the younger generations (1980+) in Europe grew up with computers. That is, American English games, American English Internet and American English movies. In Denmark, at least, we started using several English words as part of our every day language. "Nice" for example, is a very common word now. And generally it's the short common phrases/replies that we've adopted (although also -ility words for marketing). I hope that explains it :)

These are condensed twin turbo charged gloves, they provide 140+ more HP to the car, thats why all the accelerations on this channel is faster with 0.5 - 1 sec

Nice shot! Correction: The P85D has NOT 700PS neither 691PS. This car has about 420PS on tires. Good to know this amazing acceleratin comes just in first round. The second and third chance is quiet worse and slower. Definitely that!!!
Turn down regen when going highspeed, so you won't run into the powercap so quick. Regen at high speeds causes heat buildup in the Power System, that's why the 240kw limit kicks in quite fast..

Ich wusste ja nicht, wie viel Power Elektromotoren heute bereits besitzen (können). Gerade im Hinblick auf die Zukunft, und dem schwindenden Erdöl, ist das eine sehr innovative Alternative zu Diesel und Benzin.

Hatte bis jetzt schon mal das Vergnügen in einem P85 auf dem Beifahrersitz mitzufahren und das war definitv ein heftiges Gefühl so in den Sitz gepresst zu werden. Da freu ich mich schon auf die nochmals heftigere Beschleunigung des P85D :D

This car is more than quick enough and the advantages of owning one are uncanny.
somehow I got the feeling that 700 electric horses wouldn't be as brutal as 700 gasoline horses.
The problems displayed on this video is the tesla has batteries that run down out of max ampage so power never stays complete, plus they used the wrong motors for top speed. they used motors that have high torque that drops quickly the higher the rpm's get. Instead of using the original Induction motors that maintain max torque. if they had 700 hp of induction power, it would have ripped to 240kpm 3-6 times faster, pending on the shunt motor build they have currently.

The new-gen turbocharged petrol engines hit max troque at 1500-1900 RPM, and maintain max torque up to 5.5-6k RPM, the only thing that rises with speed in these engines is power..
Simple reason for that: the power of a car is defined by the power that the ENGINE is able to deliver, BUT usual cars with combustion engines also have a transmission, which improves the torque given by the engine a lot with the gear ratio (often something around 50%). Of course, the friction inside of it etc drives against it, but it definitely makes a huge difference - electric cars don't have a gear box, so the torque given by the engine(s) is not improved any further. That's my explanation - correct me if i missed something

I'm on the fence when it comes to Teslas.
I drove a P90DL for a midweek as a testvehicle... the point is that the acceleration is so instantaneous and ridiculous you just want to keep doing is all day long. It's incredibly addictive, and unlike many other things you've experience before.
However... this is killing the range so incredibly fast it's use is reduced to nothin more than a very expensive fun toy.
I can't see myself buying this at it's immense cost, to then be confined to driving 100km/h behind trucks on the highway because I need to be able to get home after a meeting.
You don't buy a 700hp car for that..
If only the range was double or triple of what it is now, I'd be sold on it.

The technology for having massive range and a lot of power has been discovered more than a 100 years ago by Nikola Tesla.. It is all about making money nowadays, by "evolving electric engines", and charging ridiculous amounts of money for them ..
Just a quick thing: the car isn't actually delivering 700 hp because of battery limits. The motors are rated at 700 hp combined, but in reality only deliver something like 560 hp.
Considering the already ludicrous acceleration this car has at 560 hp you start to wonder what would happen if all 700 horses would be set loose...

Because it has limitations so it doesn't burn up something.
Think of this, the car weighs more than 4,000 pounds, a honda civic thats upgraded to 500-1100hp weighs in at close to stock weight (2300-1700pounds) the tesla then acts as if it has 400 hp rather than 700 because the car weighs so much and only has one gear and no transmission so you get a huge gearing ratio of speed, not acceleration

That has nothing to do with it.
The 700HP is a peak rating, not a continous rating.
At that power everything would get heated up far beyond it's rated temperatute/current rating.
Electric engines don't need a transmission since their torque curve is higher at low RPM's then at high RPM's.
It all has to do with the electronics and batteries powering the e-motors not being able to handle the current/power.

+Walpor it's got some of the best aerodynamics of all cars because it doesn't have a big grille in the front or air inlets as normal cars. I think it is because it is 1 gear and the power band is strongest in the low and mid revs, it would need several gears (like in normal cars) to have better accel at high speed but the torque would destroy a normal gearbox

Hey Automann, muss man ein elektroauto eigentlich warm fahren oder kann man dem gleich die Sporen geben?
Maximilian H. An einem Elektroauto / E-Motor gibt es ja kaum beweglich Teile, daher gibt es keine richtige Wamrfahrphase wie bei Diesel/Benzinern, schon gar nicht wie bei Turbo-Motoren. Hier haben wir lediglich die Reifen etwas auf Temperatur gebracht und uns langsam ans Auto gewöhnt. Größeres Problem ist beim E-Auto die Hitze in den Akkus, aber da regelt das System selbständig runter und gibt dann halt nicht mehr volle Leistung.
