What is a "heating basin"?

Hello! A heating basin is an electrical warming basin that we placed into a pre-cut hole of our whelping box. The electrical cord ran below the box and out a corner to plug in. The puppies are smart enough to find it to stay warm, even though blind, and if they get too warm are smart enough to scoot out towards the edges. Another option is a heating lamp, but we found the basin to be safer and work wonderfully. I hope this explains it well enough. :)

This is the type we used (link below). We got ours second hand from someone selling online. We paid $100. The puppies are in the whelping box for three weeks, then moved to a larger pen area to play, so once the whelping box is disassembled the heating basin time is over. We thought it was a much better alternative than a heating lamp.
