We're looking at a 1961 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible in Topaz Metallic Paint. The car comes with the 390 CI V8 engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Steve Plunkett. Steve’s had this car since 2004. Steve shares he loves this car has not been restored and is in its original condition.
ENJOY!
Hi, If you like this video, please click on SUPER THANKS ❤ with the $ in the middle which is the SUPER THANKS button under the video. Thank you! Lou
I'm pretty sure that color is called gorgeous! Well, at least I would call it that. But everything else is gorgeous on Mr. Plunkett's Survivor Cadillac, too. What a great visit and a great review with a car that begs to be driven. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, "I'm pretty sure that color is called gorgeous!" NICE! Happy to share this ride with you. You're welcome, Lou
This survivor is spectacular. Beautiful Cadillac. Steve, your collection is amazing. Thanks Lou for making the trip to Canada to present these fine vehicles!
High praise. Happy to share Steve's car and the collection with you. Stay tuned. You're welcome John!
I was 19 when I bought my first Cadillac. It also was a 1959 Coupe deVille. On the drive home from the dealership, I kept looking in the rear view mirror thinking that someone was tailgating me but it was those big fins.
Hi Dan, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car with those big fins :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing. Hope you see many cars on this Channel you enjoy! Please Subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this TH-cam Channel, Lou

Designed by Bill Mitchell and Chuck Jordan in 1959. Approved by Harley Earl before his retirement party at Christmas 1959. Bill Mitchell's first Cadillac design. Gorgeous car! Love that color!
Hi Donald, Happy to read "Gorgeous car! Love that color!" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge.
I must say, this is a tribute to the aspirations of a country with young new president and the excitement of space exploration, expressed by space age lines and fins. Exciting and hopeful times. Absolutely magnificent!!!
Happy to read "Absolutely magnificent!!!" :-)
The Eldorado Biarritz was always my favorite caddy. I have my grandmother's 84 Biarritz only has 42,843 original miles. It's black with red leather interior with a red pinstripe. It was the last car she ever bought and she quit driving and sat in the garage with a car cover on it. It looks and runs like the day she bought it and I still have it serviced oil change done at the Cadillac dealership she bought it. Still has plastic on the seat belt buckles and the window sticker is in the garage. I absolutely love it. I'll never get rid of it and I've been offered good money for it but it has a lot of sentimental value and memories. I drove it all summer. It's never seen rain or snow. I live just outside of Boston in Brookline Massachusetts 😊 we get a lot of nasty weather in winter lol
Hi Billy, Happy to read "The Eldorado Biarritz was always my favorite caddy." :-) Glad to read you have your Grandmothers 1984. NICE! You're clearly the right CARetaker for that car. Lou
Super nice! 1961 and the 1962 Caddys are my favorites. Thank you Steve and Lou for sharing this beauty! 💋
Happy to read "1961 and the 1962 Caddys are my favorites" :-) You're welcome Chris!
I always liked the same era Lincoln convertibles the best, with the suicide doors.
Love it. A great time for American cars.
Hi Bob, Happy to read "Love it." :-) Lou
And America too!!!
Thanks for this one Lou. Please be advised that all 1961 Cadillacs had the tail fin tail light, it was not exclusive to Eldorado Biarritz
You're welcome Connor. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Great color combination.

I actually prefer this year with skeg fins over the iconic 59. The color is perfect and is a beautiful survivor. Steve's collection is epic. Thanks Lou
Hi CJ Design, Happy to read you like this one over the 1959. You're welcome, Lou
The brochure brings back a memory. After Dad bought his used 1958 Caddy in 1960, the dealer mailed out brochures for the 61 and 62 models.
Hi Fred, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Dads car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
That's cool, Fred! Do you still have the brochures, by chance?!
I LOVE the color!! I wish the car companies would bring back colors from the 50's and 60's. So tired of seeing nothing but black, silver, white and gray cars.
Hi David, Happy to read "I LOVE the color!!" :-) NICE! Lou
ES Dahling … gorgeousl color and condition … in my opinion one of the nicest looking Cadillac’s of the 1960s

What a hunk
What a doll
Take your pick
More gorgeous you'll not find.
Thank you Sirs
Hi C MC, Thanks for viewing and sharing. You're welcome, Lou
Steve knows his cars. I would rather have an unrestored one any day. Most people miss the enormous expense of keeping a vehicle in an environment that shows in this car. Wow unbelievable. Thanks guys.

Stunning Cadillac!
Thanks again Steve and Lou.

Another beautiful Cadillac to enjoy from Steve 😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks Lou!
Hi motorTranz, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car from Steve :-) You're welcome, Lou
I'm a big Cadillac fan! Cadillac were the pinnacle of luxury back then! This 61 is a good example of that. From the detail, the drive, and the sales brochure, this a very elegant car! Great video Lou!
Hi Zach, Happy to share this big Cadillac with a Big Cadillac Fan :-) Lou
i like this year cadillac it has both top and bottom big fins
Happy to read you enjoy the fins on this car :-)
Oh, my Lou! What have you for us today? What a remarkable and beautiful Cadillac! Over 60 years old and it looks like this even with its minor imperfections. Today's cars could not even do that at age 30. This car is a proud Cadillac - not some pretender with tacky lighting, predented and awkward creases that are found on the brand now called Cadihack. Tremendous color combination and that interior is to die for!
HI ultraviolet tp, High praise. Back at a time when it meant something to drive in a Cadillac, Lou
My older brother's friends called them Cadiddlyacs! L0L
Thanks Lou, another beautiful survivor Caddy! Steve has so many amazing cars, thanks for featuring them for us. Paint code 98 is called “Topaz Iridescent”😁❤
You're welcome Jeff. My pleasure sharing this car with you. Thank you for sharing the color code with me.

Hi Leroy, Happy to read you "Remember these cars well!" :-) You're welcome. Blessings received. God bless you too, Lou
Amazing!… What a stunning beauty. And according to the 1961 Cadillac color chart that beautiful color is Topaz… Thanks Lou and Mr.Plunket for treating us with all these magnificent machines..👌
Hi Torqueflite440, Happy to read "Amazing!" :-) You're welcome. Lou
I was 4 years old in 1961 and the 1961 Cadillac was so fresh and jet age looking. Oddly some people prefer the plain looking Lincoln for 1961, but I think the Cadillac stood head and shoulders above it.

My dad was a car salesman then Sales MGR in the 1950s- 1980, and our family always had interesting vehicles around the house bcuz my older brother also collected classic cars. One of his first ones was a 1957 Ford Fairlaine conv. and many more corvettes, T-Birds, etc to follow!
Hi Mr. BLACKHAWK, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your family's cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
What a handsome Caddy! The Eldarodo has always been my favorite model! And the first Caddy I ever drove! A "71-72?" Lime Green with a White Landau Roof! Didn't even have a DL then, my stepfather & the cars owner Tony both had too good of a time at Archie's on Rt. 14 in Palatine, both decided I would the designated driver! All the way out to Rt. 31 & Rt. 176 Woodstock? But that car was so long I would high point it in curves and had know idea about the automatic highbeam light dimning! It freaked me out! Back then nobody lived out there but farmers and they didn't drive at night so no street lights! That's a fine Eldardo! The caddy's were the America's Rolls Royce!
Hi Michael, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Caddy ride :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Thanks Lou. 1961 Cadillac is personally my favorite year for that make. Also, in 1961 you couldn’t get dual exhaust or multiple carburetors in Cadillac, for the exhaust they wanted the cars to be quieter for their buyers
You're welcome Peace. Quiet. Freedom. Happy to read "1961 Cadillac is personally my favorite year for that make" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou

That's definitely one beautiful car nice color and the interior is very nice and simple
Hi Pete, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Hi, Lou! Steve must have felt like he was flying high in that first '59 Coupe de Ville! Bill Mitchell began bringing it back to a more mature kind of elegance, shrinking the fins down a little bit each year until they vanished completely in '65. There was a certain Spanish influence at Cadillac with the Eldorado hardtop it built from 1956 to 1960. That model was named the Seville, which is a city in Spain. The Biarritz convertible, however, is named after a resort city on the French Riviera.
Thanks to both of you for make us all feel like a hot dog today!
P.S. Let us not forget the victims of the 9/11 attacks today!
Hi iswc27, Happy to make you feel like a "Hot Dog" in this car :-) Thanks for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Sorry, Biarritz is on the Atlantic coast of SW France.
Afternoon, Lou & Steve -
I don't think I've ever heard of this Cadillac model before - but, she's a beaut!
Thanks, Lou...
Afternoon Dave, Happy to share this Cadillac model with you :-) You're welcome.
🙋♂️THX LOU,STEVE,FOR SHARING THIS 🤗💚💚💚

LOVE The color. The hubcaps were cool too! when he drove up in this car at the beginning and some of the views...it looks as if it is a space craft from the 1960s! COOL! I have a couple of Cadillac brochures...don't think I have this one as I would remember those center quarter pages. Beautiful brochure! Great interior too! Engine was so smooth....exhaust sound was great sounding just the way you would think a 1960's luxury car should sound! I'd have it in my garabe in a minute!! I noticed your son getting a ride at the end!
Hi Brian, Happy to read "LOVE The color." Glad to read all the details you enjoy and notice. Yes, Joey was on this trip and enjoying all Steve rides with us :-) Lou
So beautiful!! Absolutely love the colors.
Wish you could come to Orlando to drive my friend’s 1961 Cadillac LeMans Chicago Motorama show car
Actually a one-off, built for Bill Mitchell. Also a convertible.

If there is a Private Collector or Car Show Promoter interested in having me there, they sponsor me (pay for travel & hotel) and we can video. Hope I see that car soon. My pleasure sharing the cars with you. Lou
Super convertible! 1:35 Looks like it could take off and fly! I remember the Caddys of the early '60s had those pointed fins. You had to be careful standing near the back of those cars lest you accidentally have your back jabbed by a point.
Happy to read "Super convertible!" :-) Yes, you don't want to get a pointy Caddy fin poke.
Hi Lou! Personally I love that color (and I’m a guy! 😂). I was 7 years old in 1961 and a car nut even at that age. I miss all the variety of car colors from yesteryear. Now all we have is gray, black, white, and silver, with an occasional red or blue. Boring!!!
Hi OldRustySteele, Happy to read you "love that color" :-) You're right, the colors of today's regular cars are limited. Not sure why? Lou
We also have off grey, light grey mist, grey mist, grey evening grey. Lots of color.
🤗❤️ THIS SURVIVOR AND “NEW” COLOR 💚💚💚
Happy to read you enjoy this car :-)
Cool car, i also have a 61 Biarritz, black with red buckets, for sale in the UK
NICE! Hope you find a Buyer for the price you're asking.
@@loucostabile thanks, just watched the video of Steves collection, amazing!
Thanks, NICE!! & for commenting.. always nice to get other Countries..& Great Cars..Interestingly, I had 1961 GALAXIE Ford CONVERTIBLE, BRIGHT Red/ White Top/352/ automatic / Dual Exhaust from 1966-69 ….putting four new TIRE Type,--(* in the Day) , *RADIAL BFG , etc., **thinking **, it was a nice example: unfortunately, had been quick painted/ Transmission slipping//repaired/& run hard..Anyways, Cadillac are “”generally “”, much better quality/better chance of Regular Maintenance etc. ,…
A beautiful land yacht.
All ABOARD!
61s and 62s are my favourite cadillacs that colour is dreamy, chevrolet done a very similar colour later on in the 60s .

Not that there aren't any good-looking cars today, but my goodness the styling back then was just incredible. Question Lou, how do I become friends with Steve Plunkett? Cadillacs at their apex in prestige, style , technology, and leadership .
Dreams on wheels, one could buy for the price , at any dealer.
The Cadillac ' jewelry ' , where custom wreath & crests , commissioned by them from Van Cleef & Arpels , Harry Winston, Tiffany's, often in the birthstones of month , the ads debuted in magazines, or matching the colors of the cars shown.
This added to Cadillacs high end image of power, and class .
' She , or he drives a Cadillac ' was a redux of print ads by Duesenberg in 1930s , which didn’t show the models , but glamorous people in stylish settings.

Paint Code: 98 Topaz Poly. She’s not a 1957 nor a 1958 but she sure is pretty!! Quiet runner too!
Thank you Lou.
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome Steven.
My dad was trying to be nice and surprise my mom with a nicer car. His friend owned the local Lincoln-Mercury dealer and told him about a really nice ‘62 Sedan de Ville he had taken on trade on a new Continental. So my dad buys it and takes it down to my mom’s work. He drops the keys at the front counter and asks her co-worker to retrieve the keys to her Pontiac.
She was surprised to find a Caddy where her Catalina was parked. She drove it home and tried to put it in the garage. Wouldn’t fit…the fins were too long to shut the door. My dad said we were bonafide “white trash”. Our car was too big for the garage…
😂
Hi Sean, Funny story :-) Thanks for sharing, Lou
Nice! I too like the bodystyle better than '59. I went on to Cadillac forumz and found the color Chart for '60 and it's Persian Sand, the door jam color. The newer base, clear coat has more depth of color. One thing I'm not a fan of is the Rambler style grille. (My dad had a '64 Rambler Classic, in white - first car of his I remember)
Hi Pat, Happy to read you prefer this body style over the 1959. Thanks for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
1961.....same year as me! 😄😃
Hi A, Happy to read you and this car share the same birth year, Lou
Following the 1958 model year the Eldorado series became increasingly less distinctive with each new model year. The 1960 version was the last to feature a exclusive high performance engine, air suspension and the Seville hardtop version. Of all the pre front drive Eldorado's, the 1961 version was unquestionable the least distinctive of all. The Skeg moldings first appeared on the limited production 1960 Eldorado Brougham a design certainly influence by Harley Earl and remained on volume Cadillac's through 1962. Supposedly Bill Mitchell greatly disliked the Skeg and insisted they be removed from the 1963 models
Hi Stude289, Thanks for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
The colour is possibly Topaz...
Cadillac used a lot of French too, Biarritz and Cadillac are French towns, Coupe de Ville is French.
Eldorado was the Mythical city of Gold in S.America..a Legend brought back by the Spanish Conquistadors..

Beautiful automobile, Lou. A question : at 8:44, there is a view of a chrome switch beside the steering column on the left. What is that for?
Hi kiddycat17, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) The chrome switch is the convertible top up and down button. Lou
@@loucostabile Of course. Thanks, Kurt
I think a lot of the stuff in the brochure was there to relate the car to the man Cadillac was named after. The man who established Detroit. Antoine de La Mothe Cadillac. A Frenchman, which is why French is often used in naming of Cadillacs.
Thank you for sharing.

A bit hard to definitively tell, but it looks like there was no air conditioning on that car. The panel that looked like the HVAC control didn’t show many words. Also, there was no dashboard vent on the passenger side.
If my speculation is true, then this would be a relatively rare vehicle. Granted, this was sold and owned in Canada, so perhaps people in that climate didn’t feel they needed A/C.
Excellent observation and of course factory a/c was readily available on the 61 caddy convertible...my folks had a new 60 Bonneville convertbile that was fully loaded with power windows seats and faotory ac...like you say maybe because of canada,,,,
No air conditioning.
@@loucostabile Lou, I noted that Steve said this was a Western Canada car. If it was from near the coast, say Vancouver or Victoria, they would rarely need AC, since they are very temperate with rare hot weather and rare snow. If it was from east of the mountains, like say Kamloops or Penticton BC, those inland areas can get hot (but dry) in summer.
It was common that era for convertibles to not have AC
The interior looks perfect especially for a survivor. At the very beginning of the story you asked how long he has owned the car and started to ask how he came to own it but you got distracted and never picked up on that thread. I think that is an important part of any car story. Wasn't the brochure for 62 Cadillacs? Your heading says it's a 61.
Hi Bill, Happy to read you enjoy the interior of this car :-) Lou

What, no A/C? It's a Cadillac. Cadillac's usually have A/C, convertible or not.
Nope.
Not in 1961.
Did the owner just say the car was painted years ago, but it’s Unrestored??? lol 😂 somebody help me please!

@@loucostabile Or, top down, sunburn, windburn , and your hair style severely disrupted .Sorry.
1961 was the UGLIEST Cadillac of the 59 - 76 models! The 1960 model was artwork. This design just sucked with the awful bottom fender tail fins and bland non-Cadillac looking front end. And horizontal tail lamps? The 1963 model restored the glory of Cadillac.
Hi Vicious Poodle, Clearly this one is not for you :-( Hope you see many more cars on this TH-cam Channel you'll enjoy :-) Lou
@@loucostabile You've had several '60, 63, 65-66 models I simply die over!
VP 5543, I can’t agree with you that the ‘61 is ugly. It’s a typical Cadillac. Not the most beautiful design ever, but in keeping with other Cadillacs of the era. But you’re certainly entitled to your opinion. If I found one in this great shape and could afford it, I’d be happy to own it.
@@johnlandacre767 Ugly was probably NOT the best choice of words. I should have said it was the least attractive.
@@loucostabileI adore the ‘61 models. Of the 59-66, the 61 is my fav. My all time fav Cadillac is the ‘67 Eldorado.
