Ummm... THE moment of 2022 (outside of the entirety of the Troopers show) was the Keytar!! HOW the hell is that left out?

@-24:19 Troop snare line pull guns out of holsters & shoot for the stars to start one of the best pushes I've ever seen. The visual is my favorite moment in all of dci history. I cry & scream every time I see it. It's the epitome of why anyone marches.
God, Crown’s ballad was insane!
frankly their "Crown" Toccata Andromeda closer ties with Vanguards amazing soft close for the endings I remember most.
I was a band nerd in high school and college back in the mid to late 90s and I was always a HUGE fan of the Phantom Regiment. I saw a show for a DCI contest in Tulsa Oklahoma in 1994 that had me unable to speak!

Right? I watched it twice in real life and it seemed come out of nowhere both times. Amazing show design and execution
I thought perhaps it was an homage to the Star of Indiana who similarly ended a show that way once. But I'm old.
@@connolm The Blue Stars are one of the oldest corps still around. They’ve done stars in various shows in the past! Always cool to see.
My entire graduating class was 28 people. We sure didn't have music or performances like this. Wow. These kids are incredible.

wow just wow!! carolina crown has come such a long way since i was in high school. there visuals are just amazing! I really enjoyed the blue coats show. They looked like they were having fun!
As a person who marched Blue Knights, and Battalion I still wish I could march DCI, wasn't surprised when Blue Knights didn't make finals, but it was still saddening to me, since when I marched them we were making finals. I marched 2019 with Blue Knights and 2017 with them, Battalion I marched 2016, 2018, 2021, and 2022, and boy do I miss drum corps as I aged out. But the shows that I find to be good have drastically changed since I first joined drum corps in 2016.
Welcome to the new generation of drum corps "boomers" lol. What was familiar 5 or 6 years ago is uncool now. I noticed the shift you're talking about as well. I absolutely loved the BK era from around 2013 to 2019. I haven't liked a show that much since. I was too late picking up a brass instrument and never got involved in that era.
I used to hate Blue Devils when I was younger, mostly because they always win and their show didn’t seem as interesting as others. Now that I’m older and understand the complexity of shows and performances, I realize how good Blue Devils are. They are in a completely different league when it comes to how complex and musical their shows are. What they do is not easy at all. Let alone, making it look that clean is insane.
I REALLY wished crossmen made finals, they had an absolutely awesome show

I used to go to these contests in the late 80s with my dad in PA. I went for the first time since then this summer in NJ and it was great!! Although hearing all the voice over narration and guitars and other “odd” instruments was strange to me. Either way, I’m glad Drum & Bugle Corps are still a thing!

I’m with you on the new instrument additions. I love trombones, trumpets, and cellos, but when I watched faithfully, those bugelers were phenomenal and needed no extra valves or slides to get the sound. While the performances of these musicians are still stunning, I remain most fond of those rifle-twirling, flag-throwing, triple-tonguing corps of yesteryear.
Allentown semi's was always great. The Drum Major for the 60's AEM's is the one that got me into Corps. He stayed with it for decades. I did corps for 17 years total.
Early 80s, the finals were in Birmingham, Ala 2 years in a row. Made both of them. Had the 27th Lancers (don't know if they're still a thing) stay at our church. Some of these corps I remember: The Cavaliers, Santa Clara Vanguard, Phantom Regiment, and of course The Blue Cadets. Some I've never heard of: The Colts, The Mandarins, Carolina Crown. Still amazing stuff!
that's a whole lot of Bflat major. ;-). kudos to all. my fav shows were Bluecoats, Troopers, Blue Devils. (as show content...not execution)

Blue stars color guard 🤩 I saw their final run in indy and I was so blown away. They're stunning.

Their color guard is incredible. I thought their show overall was the most cohesive of any this year.

Probably my favorite year for drum corps in a while. Loved 10 shows out of the top 12.

Surprised no one really talked about Boston, there drumline was phenomenal this year and there show was one of the most aggressively beautiful shows I've seen lately, also extremely entertaining
As someone who witnessed the fifth DCI championship, I have to say once you make it through a few years of the lightweight, no-sleeve unis; horns pushing past the sideline, no headgear, 2-story tall props and parade floats, you just kind of get used to it. Performers will be on hoverboards by the time DCI gets to 100.
That Troopers sunburst is one of the reasons I just keep coming back to Voracious. Chills every time
I wish Boston could’ve won, but this year was still amazing nevertheless.
They should have! BDs was clean but it was beyond boring! Ever troopers show was honestly way cooler than theirs, but they make shows for the judges, while everyone else makes shows for the crowd and judges
@@gunner-qf9eh you can believe want you want, but go listen to the crowd reactions of Bd compared to everyone else, and you will see what I mean. BD make shows to win, and they may think it’s entertaining, but a ton of the dci community doesn’t. They enjoy the shows that are actually entertaining and enjoyable
@@josephfarkas1639 It’s not a ton of the DCI community. It’s the vocal minority upsets their favorite corps isn’t winning. Every corps in at least the top 5 looked at the sheets and designed a show that could win regardless of entertainment factor. BD wins because they preform their show better than everyone else. If you don’t find their show entertaining that’s your personal opinion that is not shared with everyone.

Cadets design team did a good job of innovative uniform design using traditional Cadet color scheme. Too often corps seem to lose their visual identity in their effort to be more and more innovative. What's "blue" about Bluecoats' uniform?
I liked 2019's Bloo uniforms, cause it was literal blue coats.

An old band geek myself, played trumpet in my high school band starting way back in 1970. Was in our band when it first began field competition. a LOT has changed since then. We had band alumni night this year and it was great playing with this years band. Does DCI no longer wear shakos?

What's with hardly any Corps not wearing hats, etc on thier head? It is interesting how DCI has gotten so "trendy". To the extreme it seems. Like... They looked cool doing X, we should do that too, then everybody is doing it. Who is the brain child of the trends?

The most overall complete group was BD. Not a fan of the show really, I don't understand it other than it's great playing. Great year for DCI, lots of head lines. But the Bloo allumni stole the show at Semis. Would rather watch that show than the top 12.
Lots of great stuff in here, especially the trumpet soloist for Crown. The rest should be taking notes.
But, SCV and Blue Coats, what the hell are those uniform pants?
They didn’t look good on 90% of the musicians. I fully understand the look they were going for, but those were a big fail.

Drum corps don’t represent schools, they represent cities
They aren't schools, more of regional corps from around America.
Some one from let's say Tennessee can go to the Phantom Regiment, which I believe is in Illinois, if they pass auditions.
None, it's a national circuit of some of the best marching band musicians in the country that range from like 14-20

Well there is multiple captions that you have to take into hand not just a certain moment or one caption cause other one's can pull the score down a bit.
Troopers Brass spreads tone quite often in their loud moments. Individually, they do not sound as good and that is where they got knocked on the judging sheets.
@@BerserkRain Yes to all that. And in this case, whereas Troopers had the GE edge (and at times music edge), the Colts always held a healthy margin in the visual caption. I feel that the judges got all those in the 11-14 bunch correct each night

Yeah. I mean, it's an interesting idea, but these poor singers are just not physically capable of blasting their way through the wall of sound that is a drum corps performance without their voices sounding strained.

Wow all the props, singing, dancing drummers? Drum corps has definitely lost its way.
Helmets would be nice. Voice overs and singing not needed. Gimmick instruments can go as well.

Pretty awesome chops, marching and visuals. I am disappointed you can no longer recognize a corps from the uniforms and colors any longer (with a couple of exceptions). Also, it seems that head coverings are now a thing of the past. As an old school drum corps dude I"m missing some of the tradition and individualism from the corps. Seems every corps is playing very similar stuff, amplified, and just slightly different themes. Really miss the battery being much more musical. They play some awesome notes but everything runs together and you way to many unison parts between the snares and quints. It's all a big broadway type production now. Certainly a different time now. Not sure I'll ever get the same entertainment given few shows are unique and styled to the corps of their heritage any longer. Not taking anything away from the performers as they are certainly much much better than we were back in the 70's but the entertainment and fun is pretty much gone.
Well your words certainly do take away from the hard work we put into these shows so thanks a lot :)

I haven’t caught up with DCI since 2014, WHERE ARE THE HATS AND STETSONS?? Why is every corp in spandex now? I miss 2014 DCI :( they still did amazing just looks like winter corps now lol
