In case anyone is interested in how to win at 2:13 after black plays Kxg4, simply play Qf1 and then Qg1 to blockade the black pawn, and then move the king towards the black pawn and then capture it is the easiest way to do so
4:52 there is no need to push the pawn at all, just play Kd5. The rank the b-pawn is on does not matter at all, as the K will need the same amount of moves towards the g-pawn from b5 as it will from b7.
2:23 That b-pawn is also known as a "decoy". 18:03 Don't call me Shirley. 19:09 Stockfish says it's mate in 23. 24:02 Well, it's a win as long as it's not a g-pawn ... But if it is, Black might get checkmated before the pawn promotes.
@@Calibrownsfan yes that's the same number of moves but I think the point is that Black's king is closer to White's king in the Rb6 variation so that's why it's a faster win.
There has not been a single episode that I haven't been able to learn something from. Thank you for sharing your time, knowledge, and experience with us. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
I wondered that, too, but it appears that if you move all the pieces to the right one file, the knight can't safely control a square in front of the pawn. Remember that it's: IF the Knight can take control of any square in front of the pawn, then it's a draw.
@@michaelzoelisch6738 im 1279 but most of my games dont enter a balanced endgame lol, usually either me or my opponent lose a piece, or even get checkmated, before then. so even though i learned things im afraid i wont be able to getting to apply them so i'll forget this in about a week lol
The kings just moved there, its from whites perspective, but the kings moved to the opposite sites of the board. Maybe both tried escorting pawns there
Also I have some intermediate level over the board tournament games I played that would be interesting and instructive for many fans. Would you be interested in doing a series with these games? Lmk
He "famously" got beaten by someone that he claimed was cheating. It turns out the guy was cooking rice, made a brilliant move with a straightforward next move, and he got up to check on his food.
Someone had a similar comment. In the case of a non-rook pawn, the (complete) rule is: IF the Knight can (safely) take control of any square in front of the pawn, the game is drawn. If the knight CAN'T do this, then Black might be able to win (and in this case does).
so can i tell you something i have a challenge try to mate with 3 nights and a king against a lone king it is possible but it is very very very very very hard it's like a master level difficulty checkmate.
@@denniscole5105 I don't think it was move 4 then. About the quickest way to exchange queens is with the Center Game: 1. e4 e5 2. d4 d6 3. dxe5 dxe5 4. Qxd8+ Kxd8.
Ugh. Chess endgames are so humbling. It's a 1000 little tips and tricks to gain the slightest edge. I wanted Hicaru calculate for 30 minutes against a bot only to realize after it was always a draw.
The best place to get a chess lesson

Many thanks for that Nelson - it's put a lot of flesh on the bare bones that I knew of
Great series, this is so helpful and well presented
My two favorite videos by Nelson are (1) the ratings climb videos and (2) the book club videos. Ty for them!

This is very helpful Nelson! I'm finally learning these pawn end games.
Wow i didnt know that thing with the Knight dance. thank you
At 22:10, Black could have won faster by playing Rb6.
Yeah that's how I first learned it. And being faster just leaves less room for error.
Rb8, Kf4, Rg8, Kf5, Rxg7 or Rb6, g7, Rg6, g8-Q, Rxg8

15:26 wouldn't that also be an issue for knight pawns in this specific case?

Sir, ur my best teacher for chess . But I am in India so English language is very deficult but I'm learning . thanks
Thanks! Super helpful! ❤
Great stuff! I need this!! 👏🙏
Thank you very much , I am learning very much from your channel and you are my best chess educator ❤❤❤. Please keep uploading.
I love Nelson courses on the Silman book! What is the best way to watch them in order. This is number 3.
Thanks a lot!
Im rated 1401 should I watch?
I as a 1250 learned some things, so i think you can maybe too. Surely not as much but im sure there are some things
Good video tho would recommend

No, it'll automatically knock you down to 1400. It's fide rules, not me.
Great lesson
Nelson, I’m super confused at 11:42 are we looking at this board from white’s POV? The pawn is moving backwards?
Same question at 14:19??
The kings just moved there, its from whites perspective, but the kings moved to the opposite sites of the board.

@8:43 I beat a strong bot exactly like that yesterday! I do have this course on Chessable, though ;-)
Wasn't even a weak bot huh?
B pawn: yippee, I’ll get to be a Queen!!
White king: so long, sucker!
i like these types of videos
simple, easy to practice, and helpful
Is this video part of a playlist? I would love to see other analysis coming from this book
Yes, the Complete Endgame Course.
Or you could get the book.
Superb🌟
thank you
Thanks

You could do it yourself ...
@ yeah maybe
TH-cam comments: Nelson doesn’t post his losses
Nelson: I’m gonna reference the video where my knight got deflected and I lost
He "famously" got beaten by someone that he claimed was cheating. It turns out the guy was cooking rice, made a brilliant move with a straightforward next move, and he got up to check on his food.
what happens at b and g lines at a knight and a pawn ending, i mean is it possible for the knight player to stop the pawn?

(@16:25) Exceptional smothered mate! 💙
Chicken coup? As in forceable takeover by the chickens?😅
Right!? That's how they spell it in the book. lol
This was helpful to me and Im 1606, definitely a video worth watching

Niceeeeeeee👍
Can't believe your climb rating videos mad me reach 1400😭
whoo hoo !! i got the book .. i cant read !! whoo hoo thanks for Nelson.. 😮
I like these videos, Nelson, but almost every time I see you in an endgame position against an opponent, you always seem to bungle it.😂
That's why you need to really practice endgames.
ding should have to see this
I opened up the chess app this morning and got scraped like 4 times. One of them we traded queens on like move 4
Move 4? What was the opening and what's your rating?
@Amoeby I played the Italian I'm like 1400

jokes on you, im 1403 elo so all your advice is wasted on me.
Still watching even though im 1900 because your vidoes are so usful and im trash at coverting adventage
Hey, uh, I have some advice for *you*. You look better without the AI upscaling or whatever, trust me :).
a very basic one
I forgot that my rating was 1547😂😂😂
