8-1 header on Destroked 6.0 engine dyno at 30psi

  • Destroked 6.0 with a Callies 4.8L/3.268" stroke crank, C5R heads, custom 8-1 header by One Guys Garage, and a Forced Inductions S491. This was back in March of 2020, I have since sold the turbo setup and the engine is in the car NA right now. The 8-1 was fun but it really hurt the top end power and RPM of this particular engine, if I were to do this again I would like to do larger primaries and collector size. It did spool very quick (contrary to popular belief), and made good low end power for its size though! 30 psi and 1500HP

    I've always wanted to see this with a flat plane crank and 8-1 pulse paired twin scroll setup. It would make equal length tricky but look/perform insane

      Flat plane crank + 8-1 header..... wouldn't that be kind of redundant in terms of exhaust scavenging? Maybe not

    • @PlayinWithMahWii
      @PlayinWithMahWii 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@ellisjackson3355 Yes. With a flat plane crank, a 4-1 dual header + exhaust would provide less flow restriction than an 8-1 header

    • @silentbobfan32
      @silentbobfan32 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Flatplane crank isn't for exhaust scavenging, it's for balance, they don't need the same counterweights as a cross plane crank so they tend to weigh about half as much, which means much faster revs.
      The flow and scavenging of an 8-1 header vs a 4-2 setup would depend on how well each is set up. An 8-1 is a lot harder to fit into a body though and would have a much longer minimum primary length, so that would limit the range it could be tuned for

    • @CarLos-yi7ne
      @CarLos-yi7ne ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@silentbobfan32 Flat plane crank is best for exhaust scavening and not needing to have those crazy exhaust headers to make use of the benefits of the scavening effect.
      Cross plane cranks only exist because they run smooter.
      So that is why you see flat plane cranks only for racing or sports cars.
      Example: Ferrari 308 has flat plane crank, Lancia Thema 8.32 has cross plane crank. For the rest it is exactly the same engine in a Sportscar vs a 4 door Saloon.

    I love this out of the box thinking I’m in Australia and currently CAD designing reverse cylinder heads for my LS with exhaust in the valley so I can do a 8 into 1 short manifold into a single 98mm turbo.
    It will have twin plenum chamber intakes manifolds on either side with twin 90mm throttle bodies water to air intercooler using the AC system to chill the water all this on a destroked 6L on E85 wish me luck it will be unique if nothing else.
    Please keep up with your content it is fantastic I can’t wait to see more.

    I did a lot of research and reading when I was looking for headers from my Caprice PPV. I came across a post saying that the 1-7/8" primaries killed low end torque and horsepower. In fact, the poster had 1-3/4" headers on his G8 and a header company offered him to demo a set of 1-7/8" headers. He put them on and hated them because of the hp/tq low end kill and put the 1-3/4" back on. He called the company and started asking some questions. The header company said they don't recommend running 1-7/8" headers on anything below 440 CID. He asked then why do you make these and the company rep said "because people believe bigger is always better and they will buy them".

    Well it's an expensive way to deliver exhaust gasses to a turbo, but does it make more hp than a set of stock manifolds feeding a turbo? And no don't say that it made more hp NA so that's proof. The turbo is a blockage that would kill the scavenging effect (which is overcome by the boost it creates). I would suspect that how you deliver the exhaust to the turbo makes very little difference.

    But what do you put that in? A boat? A promod chassis? A mid engine setup with pipes over the transaxle? Reverse Rear engine with pipes over a v drive? And all for what? It's entirely possible to even up the pulses at HP peak with compensated primary lengths. Using dual twin scroll turbos with cylinders paired 270 degrees apart and compensated primary lengths you could minimize cylinder to cylinder interference, lower the exhaust volume and surface area for less heat dissipation potentially running bigger exhaust housings, save space and not risk having primary pipes too long for the rpm range. 8 or 12 into 1 setups seem to be more for sound or weld porn than for anything practical. But I guess you got my TH-cam click so you win.

Same heads, cam, intake, turbo, fuel system, tuning, compression, ect and the 6L will make more power from every unit of size until the engines both simply reach the limit of the turbo, fuel, head sealing, system , ect.

    NO OTHER CHANGES were made?
    30 psi =about 2.1 bar x 565 NA should only equal about 1200 HP so where does 1500+ come from?
    1513/564=2.68 2,68 x 14.5=38.9 psi
