      When you talk about cuff links, I have clergy shirts that have both buttons and the holes for cufflinks (think of a formal link-cuff shirt, but with two buttons added to make it "convertible). Is this a fashion no-no to wear to a more formal event? I find that I prefer these single-thickness shirts with links more than the others that I have with the double-thickness. Hope that makes sense.

      If you are talking about suspenders, maybe also talk about the trousers e.g. where to find good high rise trousers, v back trousers and so on ..

    My grandfather was always a sharp dresser and he influenced my style a great deal. I'm in my 40's and my grandfather is long-gone but I still look up to him to this day. This video brought back a lot of fond memories. He used all the accessories you mentioned!

    As a lady, I appreciate everything in this video, but three things especially.
    1) The information on each item. Very clear, easy to understand, detailed when needed, and humorous. Bravo.
    2) The information about this intriguing company. I personally have dark, thick and curly hair, and have been searching for a non-plastic and well-made comb for above six months. I will be checking out this sponsor.
    3) The tie clip at 7:41. I have a ring that matches this steampunk-esque tie clip almost to the T, but I haven't worn it in years simply because it feels out of place with what else I own and I haven't found anything it truly works with. If a gentleman friend of mine wore that tie clip, and we agreed on it, I would be most happy to coordinate just my one piece of jewellery with his tie clip. I think that would be a most enjoyable experience, even if perhaps a subtle result.
    Thank you, my good sir, for this video and the information contained within.

    First time I used a tie bar was in basic training 8 years ago. I now use them all the time, especially here in windy OK. My wife got me a badger hair brush when I started getting into using DE razors and I love it! She also got me a vest that gets me compliments every time I wear by men and women, young and old. She also wants me to use suspenders. I guess I should try them as everything else she suggests is a hit!

    I am fairly certain that the brush my wife got me was a pig hair brush, but I look forward to getting a badger brush, too. Although, I must say, I really like my pig brush (I know, but saying "pig brush" just cracks me up). I really enjoy my new double edged safety razor!
    Antonio, you are, without a doubt, a wonderful addition to my collection of University Professors! • @qarhsi
    @qarhsi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    great video Antonio. i think it's important that shoe horns, combs, collar stays should be functional rather than be of high quality. i mean a certain level of quality is necessary, but as long as they get the job done properly, that's what matters rather than spending $$$ on mother of pearl etc.

  • @johnyoung1630
    @johnyoung1630 ปีที่แล้ว

    This video is awesome! I never knew that WWII is the reason why belts are more popular than suspenders. Suspenders are far, far more comfortable.

  • @JordanCrowderFilms
    @JordanCrowderFilms 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice! I have a copper shoehorn and stainless steel collar stays. They've held up nicely over the years. I'm with you on the suspenders, just never wear clip-on suspenders, those look cheesy. Also, classic shaving brush and safety razor and you'll never go wrong, stick with it, takes time to learn the technique, too many guys give up on it, the practice is worth it.

    One reason I love grenadine and knit ties - you can wear a tie pin with zero worry!
    Also, if you can, have the pin a little rounded off instead of sharp. This takes slightly more effort to get it through the fabric, but it will be less likely to cut fibers and damage the tie.

    Back in high school I've had a "pre-military class" (old post-soviet thing), where we were required to wear a uniform that's different from the standard school uniform (so we had to change before and after that class). A tie pin was required, and the regulation for it was directly in the middle between the third and fourth buttons.

    I have a multi size set of collar stays made of real bone, those mother of pearl are nice!
    A shoe horn made of actual horn is a guilty pleasure.
    Links for sure, silk knots, gold, silver, real stones
    Badger brush, nothing better!
    Clothing brush is a must, even after wearing and before storing

    I've used badger hairbrushes before and must say they're amazing for getting an even layer of shaving cream on the face. Was the suit in this video selected specifically based on this topic? The brownish colour seems quite a classic look, plus I noticed it almost perfectly matched the box for the comb

    Both of my granddad’s died before I turned 10 years old. It is a nice thought to imagine them as well schooled in menswear. But I’m not so sure it was a reality. I know they both used a double edge razor. However, any sartorial knowledge evidently did not pass down through my parents. My Dad certainly didn’t know about quality shoes, for example. I introduced him to Tricker’s, Church’s and Crockett & Jones. He reached 60 years of age and had never heard of these classic English brands.

    Here's a funny/sad story about cufflinks:
    A few years back, I had a co-worker who had a huge crush on Chris Hemsworth (Thor). HUGE crush. She sadly passed away.
    When picking out my clothes for the funeral, I was looking for something small to wear in her honor.
    To this day, I still own the Mjölnir cufflinks I wore to that funeral.

    The classic look and accessories are timeless. If the current generation could transform in this direction, along with manners and a formal style of dress, maybe we could resolve some of the issues we have today. Just keeping your shoes shined, as we once did with our boots in the military shows discipline and that you care about something. I enjoy taking care of my dress shoes and keeping a nice shine on them.

    • @infernis2005
      @infernis2005 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They will both keep your collar stiff, but the materials bring different qualities to the table. MoP is a more luxurious and smooth material but will break if you dropped it on a hard floor. The bone ones are really hard to break but the material isn't as exquisite as mother of pearl.

    Personally, I'd rather wear a vest than a jacket in my dress attire. For my day to day interactions with patients in my chiropractic office, my vest is much more appropriate over a suit jacket to keep that professional look. Plus it serves as a place to put a few accessories that I'd rather not have in my flat front pockets. I like the idea of moving to suspenders too, as I often have to shift my leg position into a squat for some adjustments. Might allow for a more moveable situation. BTW, what website were you showing for vests with the asymmetric designs?!?!?! Those looked cool!!
    Now if only someone would finally figure out how to put a cargo pocket on my slacks for my iPhone...

    Also, I love wearing a vest and dress shirt to work without a jacket. Do you recommend always matching the vest with the pants or can you mix it around? If so, what combinations do you recommend?

    Not necessarily my grandpa on either side of my family..but my great granpa on my mother's side? Oh yeah..this was ALL him..he always wore a suit and fedora complete with the jacket, I don't know about the suspenders but he probably did at some point (he died before I was born), I use his safety razor, I have my own boar bristle brush, I'm sure he had a tie tack or clip somewhere that's been lost over the years and probably a set of cuff links too. I never knew the man personally but it seems the older I get the more I want to connect with him in some way..I have a larger body type, always have, so I've started to take an interest in suspenders and have two pairs with clips for when I go out and about, right now I can't even get a nice fitted casual suit cause of everything that's going on and just average price range for getting a tailored set of cloths..but one day once everything is calmed down and I got some spare cash from all the bills, I'm gonna get something.

    Antonio, the vest is super awesome! Does it have any special name? I consider you had it custom tailored?

    Hey Antonio, I’ve got a question and potential video. Do you think it’s possible to make suspenders go with every outfit you wear? To wear formally AND casually?

    Some antiques I'm considering:
    Silver vesta case as a business card holder
    silver & ivory (19th c) cutthroat razor
    handmade cufflinks / tie pins (may even learn to make them myself)
    Any thoughts on these? e.g. how to shave with a cutthroat
