Watches on the right hand side. If you do a lot of business with another country by phone/email etc, where you need to have a regular communication, wear a second watch on the right wrist set to the other time zone. it'll stop you having to constantly work out the time in the other zone, similar to offices that have 2 clocks on a wall.

My grandfather was a bank loan officer in Pittsburgh, PA in the early 1900s. Keeping shirts white in a town saturated with coal smoke was a challenge. Growing up, my grandparents house had an old stove in the basement, which I never questioned (I guess I sort of assumed they were saving it because they'd gotten a new stove but the old one still worked). Many years later, my mom explained that the stove was in the basement because grandma literally boiled grandpa's white shirts to get them white. Also, grandpa had to change his shirt at lunch, due to the accumulated coal dust on his collar and cuffs. If you go back a bit further, a lot of people actually had separate collars and cuffs made out of cellulose, so they could be wiped clean. I suspect that was more for the working class people who couldn't afford clothing (clothing was a LOT more expensive throughout most of history).

Outstanding! About watches on the Right wrist: It is also easier to strap on with your dominant hand. Nixon brand watches put the stem at 9 o'clock. I don't know if Chronometers were certified for wear on Right hand, although I understand tests included accuracy with 3 o'clock down I don't know if 9 o'clock down was tested to the same extent.

About the TAG Heuer Monaco, there is a much more genius reason why they designed it with the crown on the left side.
The movement for this watch, was the first ever automatic chronograph, so they designed the crown on the left side to remind people that there is no winding of this watch, because it’s automatically winding.
(Of course there is some debate about which brand who truly launched the first automatic chronograph. Zenith, Heuer etc.)

Actually the bottom button rule comes from waistcoats. On 5 button versions the bottom is left open to honour the king.
It was considered uncouth to have the clothes bunched up around the neck when dining with the king so having the bottom button open allowed the waistcoat to spread and not push up the shirt and neckerchief or ruffle.
Remember the frock coats of the time didn't fasten.

Actually blue and black dyes are rather expensive historically. At least in many cultures. Black was most expensive in Japan. Blue was the cheaper option.
More so the expensive of cleaning white clothes. And some skilled trades did wear white. However more for formal wear so they could show off class. Keeping white clothes bright white wouldn't have been easy in the old days and probably would've needed more frequent replacement.

I like this guy - concise, lots of knowledge, easy going and no trace of arrogance or snobbery, just the fact's m'am. But by the way, how about some in depth rules of you can and should not wear together i.e. button downs, shoes, belts, accessories, collar styles etc. I've been taught a lot of them but not sure if they're correct and always wondered where they came from - for example, I was always taught not to wear a button down shirt with a suit i.e. the jacket and pants are made from the same material - button downs should only be worn with a blazer/sport jacket and trousers. There are many of these rules - wondered if you could touch on them!

I've seen people wear their watches with the face on the same side as the palm. Do you think that should be avoided?

Do whatever you fancy. Wearing a watch with the watch on your palm side is easier to read the time when you are aiming down sighted of a gun...Military use.

Steve McQueen picked the Monaco out of a number of pieces brought to him by the costume designer - he resented people who tried to copy his style. Which is hilarious considering many brands blatantly use his image, our outright use his name, to sell their stuff... Tag, Persol, Ford...

Right handed and always wore it on my right hand so my left hand is used to putting them on with my left.

İt may also hurt some of your right hand fingers when you shake hands with a person who has a watch on his right hand, especially with oversized metal bracelet watch.
