    Great review as always guys! But, use the lens hood! You don’t get to say there’s too much flare when not using it - images are always better with a hood unless you desire that “creative flare” look. In general I like your reviews best!😊✌️

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, we often get called out for that. There are a few reasons we typically ditch the hood. We absolutely like natural creative flare and even go out of our way to capture it, we want to see how the lens handles flare WITHOUT the hood, and I think they are bulky and annoying lol.

    I just bought a Batis 25 f/2. Now I'm considering returning it to buy the GM. Not sure what I'm gonna do but I really like that aperture control ring and the focus hold button.
    The Batis is actually 110 grams lighter and can focus even closer. It is an f/2 though, not a 1.4.

    hello Dan and Sally, This lens gives another reason to buy the Tamron 28/75 f2.8 over the GM, you can get this new 24 f1.4 for when you want 24mm. it has more background blur, better low light, and less distortion than the 24/70 GM at 24mm. and I'm sure at f2.8 it must be sharper also. and you can get this Sony 24 f1.4 and the Tamron for around the same price as just the 24/70 GM.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much Ale!!! So I prefer not to shoot too wide with a gimbal because it distorts on the edges so I'd use the 24GM and I actually would have no problem using the APSC crop mode to turn it in to a 35mm. The only exception would be if you are shooting a ton of building interiors in which case the wider 17-28 would be better

    I need to know. Does your copy of this lens make any noise when focusing in single auto mode? When my copy of the lens is set to any aperture greater than 3.2 and in single autofocus mode it makes a slight grinding noise. This noise increases the smaller the aperture. I ordered a second copy with the intention of returning the first and the second does the same thing!! Did you notice this at all??

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So unfortunately Sony only allows us to use new gear in set environments and almost never allow us to take them off site or home with us to test. However, this event was not very controlled and mostly natural light so the results are pretty true to normal use. Some of the other camera brands are better at allowing us to use the gear ourselves rather than only at these press events

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It says Pre-order but that is what B&H does for new items when stock is limited. Your best bet is to use the Preorder from B&H: bhpho.to/2CbCR6Y
      They get copies in ever couple weeks and you will get yours sooner. They have been selling like crazy though so you can't find them in stock anywhere. Given how low stock levels have been, it will be just about impossible to find them listed as "in stock" anywhere since a store won't do that until they have full-filled preorders and have significant stock levels.

      REALLY tough call. I liked that it had little distortion, a wider aperture, and better quality in many areas so for portraits and for night photography, I could see a big benefit. But most of the time I pull out the 16-35, it's for landscapes and I'm using it in the 16-20mm range which obviously you would give up so it depends.

    Here comes the flood of 24mm videos. I guess SOny had to do something to stay in the news. Even though a A7SIII would be a better story.

      I would have definitely preferred an A7SIII too :)

    I have a sony 85 mm and the kit lens and I can probably afford 1 more lens for now... which lens would you recommend for weddings and for general purpose? 85 and a ??? 24, 35, 24-70, something else?

      I would update the kit lens for now. Check out the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8: bhpho.to/2klEbf5
      It really is amazing for the price. If you can afford it, you might consider the Sony 24-70 F2.8 instead but at over $2000, it's an expensive lens

    Still Canon color space is the best so far, I am not Canon fanboy, just saying like it is. That’s only one thing keeps me from switching to Sony, Sony please improve color space.

      It's cheaper than the Canon version and WAY cheaper than the Nikon. Not cheap but actually way less than I expected for a pro end F1.4
