      I remember when I was in my Buick regal I had a house speaker it was a 15 and I had it hooked 15 house speaker and then I had a 10 house speaker in the back of the road Rio yeah but I hooked up a thousand 1200 w amp and a 800 watt amp to the 6x9s and the 1200 watt to the amp again the other one's going to the tweeters and that other beat

    Great thanks for your review, what is the best choice for recording : KRK Monitor or Headphone DT770 ?

    • @LewisBeasley
      @LewisBeasley  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Which ever you feel personally fits you and your existing need & budget best. If it were me, I'd prefer to mix on the KRK's and then reference/adjust in the headphones as needed.

    Ok. A question from a novice. Since my cd i listened to has already been "altered" and "beautify" in the recording studio, would it be better to play it back on a studio monitor at home than a normal house speaker since it will only be adding to another layer of "alteration", thereby changing the actual sound from cd?

    Some of the best selling songs of all time we're mixed on home HiFi speakers. The Yamaha NS10. There still found in the worlds best studios.

    • @joeystephie2911
      @joeystephie2911 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      True! The NS10s don't even have a flat response yet it can make mixes translate ridiculously well to all speakers.

    I kind of stopped believing in hifi after I had a couple hours with Tannoy Reveal 802s (and a bunch of other monitors, just liked those the most). I don't think there's anything in the hifi world for the price that can go that loud and still not be hard on the ears.

      Pro audio sounds better than home audio. If you have the money go for it, if not then find a pair on eBay. I recommend a pair of acoustic studio monitor series 3311, they come in different styles but perform identical. I have a pair and I love them.

    Very true with acoustic sounding that matters from design although, I have to admit, Ive been using House book shelf monitors for few years, and have amazing Mixes, from different genre's. Its more of the person behind the mastering, than the speakers itself. My book shelf speakers used are some old Bic America DV62s, and do justice for what it is, im happy with results. I am looking to get a pair of Adams monitors this weekend. I may compare both for to review my thoughts.

    An excellent video. much agree with the points made. Domestic speakers do tend to be made to sound 'good' or 'nice' whereas studio monitors are designed to reproduce the signal fed to them as accurately as possible.

  • @FishFish1995
    @FishFish1995 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    In the end it all comes down to the frequency response of the drivers and the tuning they have undergone. If you can calibrate your speakers, whether home or monitors will be better is debatable. Are your speakers diy? What parts did you choose? Are you using built in amps or external ones? How clean is your AC power? (yes, that's a thing...).
    All in all it comes down to speaker capabilities and calibration. A controlled environment without reflections is also ideal.

    Great video man, I've got a question about overheating problem with studio monitors. Is it a common problem from your personal experience?
    In my time I made a dumb decision and bought Mackie CR4 which died in 7 months due to overheating (here where I live summer is not so tough, but sometimes can give you few hellish days) and now I'm planning to buy something more expensive. The only concern I have - damn overheating, I don't want to pay a load of cash to find out that they will do the same trick and die due to overheating.

      +Diana Williams Thanks for watching! Yes, they would sound good connected to your computer, if you don't mind a bit of a flatter sound compared to regular stereo speakers. I actually use studio monitors for my computer speakers and love it!

      Lewis Beasley Thanks for responding. My husband went through some old boxes and found our old Dell Zylux speaker and subwoofer. I was kind of hoping to try out the monitors, but these are decent enough for the computer. It would be really neat if we were able to detect the different sound between home speakers and monitors in a demo video. Please keep up the good work.

    • @LewisBeasley
      @LewisBeasley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Austin Quon Truthfully, that is a question only you can answer. As stated in the video, studio monitors put out a very flat and natural sound. Some people do not like that and truthfully it does take some getting use to. That being said, if your looking for the "Best" sound for your gaming, I would recommend else where. Perhaps a set of speakers designed for the gaming experience.

    Good video btw, earned a like from me.

    • @LewisBeasley
      @LewisBeasley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on your definition of "Higher Quality". If your not a fan of "flat frequencies", then I would not recommend Studio Monitors. They will get you a bigger sound (depending on the size of the drivers), however that sound is going to be flat sounding.

    • @oSeaNoOoS11o
      @oSeaNoOoS11o 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unburnt Toast So, to answer your question, I listen to music through studio monitors ALL the time. I have a few pair that are solely setup for music listening. I would recommend that you visit your local music shop and spend a little time listening to audio through a pair of monitors. That would be the best way to answer your question. Hope this helps my friend!

  • @DescartesRenegade

    "sound" doesn't travel through the wires. You're right that electricity travels through it, but it then travels through a coil that generates a electromagnetic field to move a magnet attached to a cone, that cone then vibrates to create "sound".

      Your advice definitely got me on the right tract. I just wish when people are talking about a Home Studio setup on TH-cam, they wouldn't call them "Speakers". Maybe they know a professional know the difference, but a novice would not have a clue, they should call them "Studio Monitors". Nonetheless, after you "calibrated" my mind to the right path, it only took me another hour of research to lead me to what I needed, a good Stereo Monitor for a small space. thuggalo 17 Yes, with a mpk 49 keyboard controller and music production software, you can start making music. If your serious about wanting to succeed in music production then don't stop there. Expand your gear beyond that if you get the opportunity. That being said, they keyboard controller and software will definitely get you started. • @LewisBeasley
      @LewisBeasley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SHOBIN ZACHARIAS That really depends on the person and their preference. I will say this. The average person may not like the FLAT sound projected from a pair of studio monitors, including the KRK monitors. If your looking for a high quality sound, then I would suggest the Hi-Fi music system. If your looking for a more natural flat sound, then I would suggest the KRKs. Again, it just really depends on the person and the speakers purpose.

    Wrong, what you are talking about is "what's the difference between bad home speakers and good studio monitor"... Of course if you compare a pair of bad home speakers to a good set of studio monitor, than the home speakers will sound shitty (either boomy, shouty or edgy) while the studio monitors will sound fantastic in comparison.
    A good home speaker vs a good studio monitor will both have a flat frequency response and the main difference will be that MOST studio monitor will have a built in amp and MOST home speaker will require an external amp. And that feature is to save space since a lot of studios already have a bunch of electronics laying around so you don't have to add an amp to the mess but in the end, it's an amp powering some speakers...
    A lot of high profile studios actually mix with high end home speakers (ex; Abbey Road Studio mixes with Bowers & Wilkins 800 Diamonds speaker). Now, I get your point about low end speaker "lying" to you by putting an emphasis on some frequencies (more often than not, in the boomy 60-80hz range to give it that thump that give the IMPRESSION of bass) but that is present only in VERY low end stuff. as soon as you spend a respectable amount of money, you get decent flatness. And if you intend to mix with cheap studio monitors, it wont be any better, you get what you pay for!
    I don't mean to be offensive, I just don't like the way you put it. Listening to this video, It's like you are saying that home speakers are bad and studio monitors are good. And it's not the case! I'd rather mix with a good set of home speakers than a bad set of studio monitors. And bonus point to the home speakers for letting me choose the amp so I can get something good with a toroidal power transformer. It is very rare to have that feature on built in amps on studio monitors, most of them are using EI core transformer which, in most cases, lack in dynamics!
    Again, not trying to be offensive, it's just that the world of audio and acoustics is loaded with misinformation and false theories! And I hate it when I hear colleges and friends believe wrong things because they heard some guy pretending to know audio say it.

    • @LewisBeasley
      @LewisBeasley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Luan Zondervan Absolutely! I have an additional pair that I keep connected to my everyday desktop computer. It may take a bit of getting your ears use to the flat sound, however for most that's a quick process. Hope this helps!

      +Lewis Beasley but do you hear any bass

    • @LewisBeasley
      @LewisBeasley  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Obviously the bigger the monitor speaker and housing cabinet the deeper the bass response. If your in a smaller room, I would recommend a 5 inch pair of monitors. If your bigger mid-size to larger room, then I would recommend an 8inch pair of monitors. My ears have always been happy with the bass response from the Yamaha and M-Audio models.

    very good (and funny) video!!! By the way can you recommend a nice pair of active monitors for under $200? Thanx :)

    • @LewisBeasley
      @LewisBeasley  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Chilla Blaze Thank you for watching! I greatly appreciate your support. In regards to your question, it really depends on your intended use. I'm going to assume your going to use the monitors for mixing music? Buying "A PAIR" of studio monitors under $200 is going to be tough but not impossible. I personally am always looking for great build quality and sound quality which tends to cost a bit more. That being said, with a $200 budget, I would likely recommend.
      You save up another $100 and buy 2 of these KRK's...
      1. KRK RP5G3-NA Rokit 5 Gens - amzn.to/214OgJa
      If that isnt an option for your budget, then I would suggest that you look into these two speaker monitors...
      2. M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 - amzn.to/1Tgs4Nn
      3. PreSonus Eris E4.5 - amzn.to/1Tgr1x4
      Again, I'm assuming you will be using these to mix music. With a $200 budget, your not going to get the top of the line, however I think these will give you a good bang for your buck. If you decide to buy one of these, please use my Amazon links above. I do get a small kick back that gets re-invested into this channel for future videos. Hope this helps and stay in touch!

      +Lewis Beasley ... Lewis, Thank you very much, I actually wanna get two monitors and two normal ones, just cos when I listen to mixes When NOT recording, I guess the sound is better, right? I mean monitors are purely for working with,....is that right? I was considering the gen3-5 rokit series too. Thanks again!!

    • @LewisBeasley
      @LewisBeasley  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Chilla Blaze Yes, you are correct. Assuming that the mixing engineer has put together a professional mix, That mix should sound even better on a pair of regular speakers VS. natural / flat sounding studio monitors. If your getting a pair of studio monitors for recording/ mixing and a second pair to listen to your mixes, then your on the right track! I have four sets of monitors, 2 sets for recording and mixing and 2 sets for listening. Having that flexibility that your talking about is a very good way to go.That being said, the KRK's allow you to adjust the frequencies on the back of each speaker. So, if you do not like a very flat sound, you can pretty much dial in the sound your looking for with a couple twists of the knobs on back. Those monitors provide a little more flexibility then your average monitors. However, due to their size, you shouldn't expect the bass to rattle your heart...lol. Anyways, let me know what speakers you end up buying and share your experience with me. Thanks again!

      @ChillaBlaze 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lewis Beasley thanks so much. I didn't know that about the rokit monitors. Maybe that's the best way to go initially then. I'll let you know what I end up getting, :)
