    Steve doesn't know the new NFL OT rules. You can't end the game by scoring a TD in OT like the old days, both teams will have a possession. It is the same as college football and usually you would defer.

    • @dionysus2006
      @dionysus2006 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Plus, if you don't defer and there is a pick-6 the game is over because you had possession then the other team had a possession with the INT and ran it in and it's over. If you defer, you know you will get the ball and if the other team had a score you would know what to do. If they had scored a FG you would know you have to at least get a field goal to keep the game going. Better to defer

    The problem with this popular national media narrative that Shanahan didn't run McCaffrey enough is that they weren't paying attention to how gassed and beat up he was late in the game. 23 rushes for 80 yards, and many of those yards were 6 and 8 yard chunks early in the game. The Chiefs had slowed that down by the second half. The idea that they could have run CMC 30+ times and had that produce anything other than diminishing returns is foolish.

    Steve was sending Joe Montana some shots there in the back half of the interview. Said there was no qbs from the past that could run for 60+ yards if needed in a Super Bowl. Montana ran for 55 yards and a touchdown on 11.8 per carry in the 1984 Super Bowl. He averaged 26.25 rushing yards per game over his 4 Super Bowl appearances, which is 420 rushing yards over 16 games.
    Also could’ve said a guy like Randall Cunningham, who was a dominant dual threat in the 80’s and 90’s. Arguably the most physically gifted qb to ever play. Imagine if guys like Cunningham with their skillets played today, he’d definitely be better than lamar Jackson.

    • @ErikLiberty
      @ErikLiberty 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He didn't say that. He said there are "not many" QB's from back then who could run. He named Montana as one of them who could and when asked to elaborate said, "He can spit out some yards, no question. He can get it done. Absolutely."

    Kyle overthinks it. Line up your guys and let them get it. Your whole team’s identity is built around the run and play action threat. Yet we’re watching them go shotgun empty backfield against Spags. What?!

      The empty backfield kills me. I will never understand it. Once in a while, sure, every down? No they are just gonna blitz and try to pick it. They were in so many 2nd and long and the penalties didn't help

    Interesting that Steve Young did not know the overtime rules. Neither did his team. The Chiefs talked about the change to Super Bowl overtime rules during training camp in July. They knew the rules the 49ers didn't that's one of the reasons the 49ers lost. More specifically, there was no way to keep Patrick Mahomes off the field by taking the ball first in overtime and scoring a touchdown. The rules are that both teams will possess the ball, unless the team on defense first scores a defensive touchdown.

    I thought Moody's PAT was a block. The "muffed" punt was kind of a freak play. During crunch time why didn't the Niner defense key on Mahomes? The missed block on Jones was a big snafu that in all probability caused them the game. When Purdy was consistently getting pressure in the pocket why didn't Shanahan have Purdy rollout to stretch out defense while throughing a pass.

    Don’t think Steve realized that the rules have changed in the playoffs and that even if the first team with the ball scores a TD in OT the other team still gets the ball with a chance to do the same.

    • @brentinnes5151
      @brentinnes5151 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes...but the team with the TD has a 100% better position!!!

    • @Prodigal1
      @Prodigal1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brentinnes5151 not the same as Steve’s argument. Well the benefit of going 2nd is you know whether the other team scored period. So you know whether you need a FG , TD or whether they didn’t score and that lets you know what to do . If the team having the ball first didn’t score and the team getting the ball punted to them then knows if they get to fourth down and on their own end of the field that they can punt too and continue to play. That it’s not needed to go for it on 4th and 10 from their own 35 . When you go 2nd if the other team scored you know you need a fg to tie or td to tie etc and you know it’s always 4 down territory no matter where you are on the field until you get a matching or go ahead score.
