It compares two signals, and you hear sound if some metal appeared near the coil. It is clear to see using oscilloscope. One signal is generated by NE555 via coil and received by TL072, and further compared with second one (standard).

I putted a led in the coil conector and there are pulse but when I use the multimeter to measure the voltage is milivolts.... acording to other texts voltage acroos the coil is big a lot, but mine is milivolts, so I change the Irf and still the same, I dont know much about electronics , but iam entusiastic because I want to find gold and this is a proper tool is posible that I damage the pieces during soldering is the only thing that I can figure out. could you help? I have buid a simple pulse of other project but range is not enough fo me I expect to find a soda can at 1 1/2 meter or 2 cause i dont want to search for coins my search is focused on gold cache could you measure voltage after some componentes to compare to mine to find the real failure, excúseme I know you are a busy guy but your help is the only way to fix this. measure after some stages of the xircuit could be a guide. have Nice day and keep on developing!
I have measured after the potentiometer and is 0.1 volts I think isnot correct so I have change the bc548 and still without sound I dont know where or at which stage the board is the problem, iam kind frustrated cause the simplicity of the xircuit and my lack of succes

At the beginning, you have to find silence position by using those two potentiometers. In other case coil should be rebuilt (add or subtract some turns of wire).

i have an other question you described TL072 can be replaced by K157UD2 . TL072 has 8 pins K157UD2 has 14 pins how it can be substituted.

1) Coil size 150 mm, wire d=0.4 mm, 31 turns, L=394 µH, R=2.0 Ohm. 2) Coil size 200 mm, wire d=0.4 mm, 26 turns, L=406 µH, R=2.2 Ohm. Not shielded.

First, check generation from NE555, and after D1 & D2. It should be generation signal.
