    Thanks for the video presentation. I live in England and ordered and received through my supplier two sets - black socks and also the white socks in just a couple of days. They look a superb product.

      YES, THIS!!! (The pattern/texture of the little vortex generators already adds a bit of styling, even on a black on black, or grey on grey, etc. solid color sock. 😉)

    Would these work for triathlon? How do the socks feel when running?

    • @SILCAVelo
      @SILCAVelo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I wouldn't swim in them 😂 but they are great for running as long as you aren't using your socks for additional padding or to tweak shoe fit.. these have a multi-texture footbed and upper foot, but are uniform in thickness in the underfoot.

    Hi Josh, wouldn't it make sense to trip the bicep? That cylinder is probably as long as your sock.

    • @SILCAVelo
      @SILCAVelo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, and most all modern skinsuits are doing this in some fashion or another, though the UCI has made it very hard to execute certain types of trip devices so most common is the use of ribbed lycra in the sleeve. This was the suit that started it all: www.cyclingnews.com/news/no-vortex-generator-skinsuit-for-froome-in-final-tour-de-france-time-trial/

    do aero socks have a positive affect at slower speeds for average athletes who don't average a higher overall speed over the course of the course?

    How come, since aero socks work so well, we don't wrap all sorts of stuff in aero sock material. From Bike-frames, to planes, parts of F1 cars. Or in other words: How come we don't have little vortex generators (could possibly be in form of stickers) on all those smooth surfaces where we want to control the wake?

    • @SILCAVelo
      @SILCAVelo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Some of those things already use turbulators and others don't need them. Next time you fly, look out on the wing of the plane.. every plane on earth has little vertical turbulators sticking out from the top of the wing surface to increase stall angle and promote better flow attachment. Look at F1 cars, the wings in clean are are designed to not need turbulators, but the ones in dirty air, the floors, etc all use some sort of saw tooth leading edge and the underfloors have vortex creating strakes to provide the same effect. Look at the top of BMW side mirrors: turbulators, the little plastic thing that pops up when you open your sunroof.. full of saw tooth turbulators. They are everywhere once you know what to look for, it's just that all these things experience different Reynolds Number flows which means different boundary layer thicknesses and different separation points, so the type and shape of turbulator varies. As for bikes, you will see it in paint roughness, but the UCI has outlawed them in most other applications, or you would see them in more places otherwise.

      @fredhubbard7210 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is real. He acknowledges your understandable disbelief at the beginning of the video. I think the reason socks in particular make so much difference is that compared to your forward motion, your feet are going much faster on the pedals.

    • @SILCAVelo
      @SILCAVelo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Just look at the introcution of UCI rule 28, or the fuss over the Danish pursuit team using kinesio tape on their shins to create the same effect.. Fred is right, it's a combination of the legs moving even faster than the bike, but also the leg having a rather un-aero cross section, so small changes can lead to some big differences. Having said all that, for most of us not at the pro-tour level, we just want beautifully made, comfortable, durable socks and these are the first that I know of to combine all those features into one! Best-Josh

      Defeet has had their EVO Distruptor sock out for about a year that is similarly knit all the way up and they claim similar gains of ~8W over regular socks.
